About the property

A stay at Schooners Landing will surely make your vacation one of your most memorable. Located on over five private acres with 300 feet of shore frontage in the charming village of Owls Head, just minutes from Camden, Rockport, Rockland, museums, shops, restaurants and lighthouses, our home affords you a perfect destination for a family gathering or a get together of friends. With three levels, everyone can have their own space yet share memories laughing and visiting together. There are water and lighthouse views from every room.

Enjoy the many summer festivals or come for the 4th of July and sit on the deck and take in the fireworks going off over the harbor!

The house, completed less than 10 years ago, is classic shingle-style architecture with three stories containing approximately 5,500 square feet of living space with large oversized rooms. Windows and decks take in the spectacular sunrises, passing sail boats, lobster boats pulling up their traps just off the front deck and lighthouses. Rockland harbor to the north is home to the country's largest fleet of tall masted sailing ships and many pass by the house each day. The house sits at the end of a 750 foot long driveway. A small stream runs year round through the property through evergreens and apple trees. The house is private yet not isolated. You enter through an antique leaded glass and oak door and as you stand in the large entryway, to your left through double glass doors is the formal dining room with seating for eight with a side door to a pantry area and the kitchen. The library/den is on your right. Straight ahead is the kitchen with a large eating area, granite tile counter tops, sitting area, television, gas log stove with antique oak mantle, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, five burner gas cooktop, electric convection oven, instant hot water dispenser, KitchenAid mixer, over 50 cookbooks, microwave, small wine refrigerator, lobster pots, etc. and everything else you need to cook a gourmet meal, a curved window looking out over the lawn to the water, and a six foot round table from Windsor Chairmakers in Lincolnville, Maine. Also straight ahead on the main floor is the living room with an antique marble fireplace, writing desk, two large couches, brass telescope and sliding doors out to the curved 40 foot wide deck with great views of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse, Seal Rock and Penobscot Bay. Also on the main floor is the master bedroom. It has a king size bed, sitting area with upholstered rockers, windows on three sides with wonderful views of the water, two walk in closets and two baths; one with a Jacuzzi tub, the other with a steam shower. Also on the main floor is the laundry area, the library/den with oak bookcases, desk, printer/fax and a couch to sit back on and look out over the water and enjoy a good book. There are over 650 books at the house.

The second floor has two oversize bedrooms and a large sitting area with large television, VCR, DVD player and book case. Each bedroom has a king bed and a twin bed. Each bedroom also has its own bath with marble floors and oversized marble showers. Both bedrooms and the sitting area have lighthouse and water views. The second floor also has two decks, one with ocean views and one facing west with a seating area perfect for sunbathing in the afternoon or watching the sunsets.

The lower level has a fourth bedroom with a king size four poster bed and built in bookcase with television, DVD, VCR and stereo and windows all with water views, a large game room with pool table, Foosball table, antique bar, mini refrigerator, futon, two arcade games, round table for playing cards or doing puzzles, bookcase, electric fireplace, stereo and plenty of windows with water views and a double glass door opening to a stone patio with a swing and plenty of seating. Also in the lower level is our lodge room (a replica of a long cabin living room), an acoustically designed home theater with two levels of seating, a 65 inch high definition television with surround sound, DVD player and stereo. Lastly, on this level is a full bath with a two person whirlpool tub with 14 air jets and marble shower with a rain shower.

Enjoy walking along the rocky shore looking for seaglass or launching your kayak. We provide bicycles, golf clubs, fishing poles, tennis rackets and plenty of outdoor games. Enjoy a walk through the grounds or play Frisbee golf on our 9 hole (5 goal) Frisbee golf course. We love children and provide dozens of thing to keep the little ones occupied, such as children's movies, children's books, puzzles, games, toys, etc. If you have infants or toddlers, we provide cribs, a high chair, baby monitor, strollers, playpen, car seat, bed rails, etc.

There is also a caretaker's apartment available above the three car garage for an additional $650 per week. This apartment has a queen size bed, queen size sofa bed, its own small kitchen/eating area and bath. The apartment has two televisions, a stereo and views of the water.

About The Owner

We have been helping families have memorable vacations for over two decades. We have rented homes that we own or have owned in Florida, Colorado, South Carolina and Maine. We fell in love with Maine over 20 years ago and it is our favorite place to be.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was the most fabulous vacation we have ever experienced. We had the opportunity to spend two weeks with two different groups of our children and grandchildren. Schooners Landing is a beautiful home and contains everything that you could possibly need. We will definitely return in the future.

Schooner's Landing

  • 5 of 5

Our group of three couples just completed a one week stay at Schooners Landing and it turned out to be one of the best vacations we have had. The home is magnificent, beautifully decorated and appointed; it was also spotlessly clean and had every amenity. It was a "home", not a house. The location was perfect and close to Rockland with it's many great restaurants. We overdosed on lobsters and every other imaginable shellfish. The kitchen was beautifully laid out so we ended up having dinner at home most evenings; and, they usually began with cocktails on the deck, looking out over the harbor and setting sun. It's a magical spot.

Our Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's third visit to Schooners Landing since 2010. Pulling in the driveway, we all had the filling of returning home. With 11 of us, ranging in age from 3 to 68, the house fit our needs perfectly. From high chair to pac-n-play to swing set, from strollers to bikes, from kites to balls, and games for all ages, the house is perfect for families with children of all ages. The coastline provided the perfect spot for our granddaughters to search tirelessly for sea glass. The kitchen is well equipped!! The house has been well maintained, and we especially enjoyed the expanded deck overlooking the water!!!!! Schooners Landing's location provided us the opportunity to explore the coast of Maine from Portland to Acadia including visits to Monhegan Island and Vinalhaven Island. We also enjoyed our traditional visit to Millers for a lobster dinner. On our next family vacation to Maine, we will definitely stay at Schooners Landing.

There's No Place Like Schooners Landing!!!

  • 5 of 5

Mere words will never capture what it’s like to spend time at Schooners Landing. The homes as you approach belie what you are about to experience. Take the captivating view as you begin the descent down the driveway. If you could multiply that exponentially, you’ll approach what you’ll find in every room of this home. Having vacationed in many places throughout the world, none surpass this. The entire coast of Maine boasts lighthouses, lobsters, quaint towns, local eateries and spectacular vistas, as does Owl’s Head. However, the home itself is what makes this vacation experience unique. You know the expression “there’s something for everyone”? This is a vast understatement! Each room is carefully and expertly decorated in a way that captures the local color, but with such attention to detail that you’ll feel more like this space has been designed just for you! (This statement would apply to small children, teens, young adults, parents, and grandparents!) Paula and Michael have done a superb job of equipping their home with everything possible that someone would want to see, use or do. Literally, no stone has been left unturned. We love Maine, and have vacationed there for many years. In the past we chose a different area each time. For years now, we have returned to Owl’s Head, to this particular home. We feel there’s so much to be discovered and experienced in this home, that our allotted vacation time just doesn’t allow us to fully take it all in. This home has to be experienced to be truly appreciated. And once is definitely not enough! Paula and Michael, thank you for all you do and give of yourselves in making Schooners Landing our family’s favorite vacation home!

Little Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our group consisted of old work friends who get together somewhere once a year. We can be a particular bunch, but everyone was unanimous in their praise for Schooners Landing. The house was very well equipped -- even for the gourmet cook in our group who was worried about the kitchen. The house really has everything you would need, plus a few things you probably won't need but don't mind having around. The view/location is perfect for loafing on the deck. The weather was perfect during our entire stay. And everyone loved Primos Restaurant which a number of us walked to from the house. Try the Pork Saltimboca! Bottomline, great place to stay.

A great vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Schooner's Landing is an ideal place for a Maine vacation. It's a beautiful home on a quiet section of the coast. Paula and Michael are great hosts and have provided their guests with so many thoughtful amenities. All the rooms have spectacular views and are very comfortable. Our group found so many things to so within a short distance of the home. We also enjoyed just staying at the house to appreciate the comfort and views. This was such a wonderful family vacation and we look forward to returning.
