About the property

Lodge, 7 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 20

Bear Creek Lodge, built in 1927, is the perfect northwoods retreat for family reunions, hunting or fishing vacations or just a relaxing escape to the north woods of Michigan. The lodge is situated on 120 acres with 510' of frontage on Big Creek West Branch (a premier northern Michigan fly fishing river).

You will love to start the day enjoying a cup of coffee in the sitting area of the kitchen watching the deer make their way to the river. As you begin preparation of an old fashion country breakfast and the other guests gather in the kitchen area you will start to plan the day - fishing in Big Creek West Branch or the nearby Au Sable River, Hunting on the 120 acres of private land, a hike through the woods, a round of golf, snowshoeing or x-country skiing in the winter; or maybe you just want to relax on the deck and enjoy the serenity of the north woods of Michigan.

In the evening your group will gather around the massive 3 story fieldstone fireplace. Comfortable seating in the leather chairs, an old hickory rocking chair and large sectional sofa will allow you to relax and recount the adventures of the day.

Meals are easily prepared in the fully equipped kitchen with sub-zero refrigerator, new glasstop stove, antique 6 burner Garland gas stove, 2 large sinks, an abundance of counterspace; and cooking utensils, china and flatware to serve 20+ guests. A breakfast room table that will accomadate eight.

You will share your adventures of the day over dinner at the large custom made dining table (seating for 14+). After dinner, perhaps a game of pool or marshmellows and smores by the firepit.

Sleep in one of the 7 themed bedrooms: Master Suite - 1 king, Antler Room - 2 full, Golf Room - 1 full, Cowboy Room - 1 full and 1 twin, Bird Room - 1 queen and 1 twin trundle, Fish Room - 1 full, Flag Room - 1 twin bunk. Sleeps 24 family style.

Fly Fishing? Walk out the front door, take a few steps down the front lawn and you are on Big Creek's West Branch.

Au Sable River, North Branch ~ Damn 4 Bridge, Jackson Hole & Kelloggs Bridge public access less then a 10 minute drive.

Au Sable River - Main Branch ~ McMasters Bridge public access less then a 20 minute drive.

There is plenty to do close by, but most guests never want to leave the property once they arrive at Bear Creek Lodge!

Awesome place for large groups, had everything we needed in the kitchen to make thanksgiving dinner.

Next year I would love to see a tree 🌲 all decorated, lol.

Would love to have the place a little warmer before we came up,

Another Great Stay at Bear Creek

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous lodge, great land, fantastic fall stay. We all enjoyed our time immensely at the lodge. The kitchen was equipped, the fire was well stocked, the TV worked well to watch football. We'll be back!

Great time for our family of 10 get-together! We kayaked on the Au Sable, shot skeet, enjoyed bon fires, and all of the amenities were perfect for what we needed.

Perfect place for groups!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Bear Creek Lodge for my annual birthday kayak weekend (kayaked the Au Sable - beautiful!) Our car had no trouble finding the place, but some who came up later, especially in the dark, did. Make sure you type in the exact street name as there are two that are similar. Once you get there the place is absolutely gorgeous! We loved all of the themed rooms, large open "great room", huge fully stocked kitchen, game room with every DVD you will need if there are rain showers (including the Great Outdoors) + extra fridge, and a porch with a big grill and fire pit. Seriously everything we needed was provided! The river is a quick walk away and we enjoyed sitting in our chairs right in the middle of it. We also utilized the clay pigeon thrower which was a lot of fun for our shooting aficionados. The only problem, totally out of the owner's control, was the massive tick problem this year. Make sure to check out reports on the insect population and check often. There is plenty of spray provided if you need it, and a washer/dryer if you want to take extra precautions and throw you clothes in after a hike in the woods. George has a real gem in the Bear Creek Lodge and we hope to visit again in the winter to enjoy the huge fireplace!

Best cottage we have ever found!

  • 5 of 5

Bear Creek Lodge was spacious, beautiful and secluded! Private swimming, shooting and fishing. Cabin was fully stocked with dishes, cookware, sundries and household products that we never needed to shop and could enjoy our time here to the max! Plenty of games and ammenities to keep us all busy, too :) We can't wait until next year!!
