About Leslee Reuning
Laughing Bear Lodge was our home for 6 years and when we moved out in June of 2011, we left everything there except our clothes and family pictures. So you are visiting our home where we raised our children thru their teenage years, laughed, loved, cried and made many special family memories. We renovated most of Laughing Bear Lodge while living there full time and that was an adventure for the ages!!! Did you ever see the movie 'Money Pit'? :) It is now our blessing to share our former home with other families and our prayer is that you find it more than just a rental........it really is a home with a heart! We moved from the hustle and bustle of city life in Atlanta, to this serene home with our 2 children who were 12 and 14 at the time of the move. To leave the 'burbs' of Atlanta and plop down in the middle of the country with no family or friends, was beyond a culture shock to everyone! But the small town country folk were friendly and kind, and we feel that both of our children benefited greatly to live where everything did not revolve around the conveniences that a large metropolitan city offers. We all grew closer to The Lord, one another and well, we all just grew up; including me! The life lessons learned at Laughing Bear Lodge will influence the generations to come in our family and as the years pass by..........the stories will unfold with the tale of how Laughing Bear Lodge is where a piece of all our hearts will always be. We hope that you will find your visit with us memorable in the best of ways and that you will share what you find at Laughing Bear Lodge with others.....and maybe what you find..... is that special new place in YOUR heart. Laughing Bear Lodge.......a little piece of all our hearts!
Leslee Reuning purchased this Lodge in 2005
Why Leslee Reuning chose Epworth
My husbands heart was always in the mountains and after living in Atlanta for 18 years.....the mountains were calling! We began with a boat on Lake Blue Ridge in 1997 and then a small cabin on the water followed in 1999. We didn't use the small cabin like we envisioned and decided to rent it out. One cabin then became 2, then became 3, and before we knew it.....we owned a vacation cabin rental company! I repeatedly had to turn away large groups/families/churches/corporate groups, due to the space required for groups that have more than 10-12 guests. So we knew from the moment we toured this house that it could be a 'place like no other' because where else can you house that many guests over night!?!
What makes this Lodge unique
We knew the Lord would have to strongly intervene for A,B,C,D,E,F,G, and H to line up where we could afford a place like this. Well the old saying 'Be careful what you pray for because you just might get it' came to be our mantra! When we bought the house, it was all carpet, linoleum, and vinyl, there were no indoor wooden beams and most of the walls had wood running on the diagonal! There was a small stoop that measured 8 x 10 which served as the front porch; that now boasts a large rocking chair porch and balcony with panoramic view. There was only 1 small narrow staircase inside that linked the upper level to the main level of the house, and all the rooms were either over sized or under sized. So to say that we had our work cut out for us is an understatement. But we saw room to run, Room to Play, great place for Gatherings of Family & Friends, Fishing, Tubing, in-door racquetball court, game room, and what could potentially be a gorgeous piece of property once the fences and trees were removed, so you could not only see the beautiful mountain water, but actually be able to access the water! So we hope our guests enjoy the eclectic decor, the usable outdoor space, and the love poured into all the renovations inside and out.

Fantastic weekend with the girls!
Sixteen of us (college sorority sisters) stayed at LBL this weekend, and it was the best place for the occasion. With so many rooms and beds, we were able to spread out and had plenty of space. The common areas where also amazing - we spent a lot of time in the kitchen, as well as the living room and sun room. We had a chance to enjoy the fire pit next to the river, and play some games in the basement! I would recommend LBL to anyone looking for a nice get-away in the North GA mountains, not too far from town, but far enough that you feel you're off the beaten path. It was a great place for just the girls, but kids would love it to, so if you're looking for a place for a family reunion, this is a great option! I hope to have another reason to book it again in the future.
We had a group ages 3-75, and everyone was comfortable. We were there for my son's wedding and were housing Our family and several of the groomsmen who were in their mid to late 20's, and everyone had an incredible time. The Owners are wonderful to work with and the amenities were all that they promised. The guys loved the Basketball/racquetball court, pool table, fishing, and the large yard to play volleyball and football. The Kitchen is amazing and well stocked. The home is beautiful and perfect for our gathering. Everyone had their own space to get away to.
Beautiful location and lodge.
We had our family reunion here and it was peaceful and isolated but still close to restaurants and towns. With horse back riding, whitewater rafting, tubing, boating, zip lines, and hiking within a few miles it is a perfect place to have fun and solitude. The beds are very comfortable.
The property was breathtaking , Laughing Bear Lodge Lodge will leave an impression on your heart!
My family and I are still talking about Laughing Bear Lodge. The property was Magnifigent ! It’s one of those places that you never what to leave.
Laughing Bear Lodge is a very special place. This home was big enough to comfortably host three families with 14 kids (mostly teenagers). There was so much to do inside that our kids didn’t know if it was day or night. Then the outside was an adventure as well. The little kids tubed down the creek and fed the fish with the prepackaged daily food. As large as this place is it was also amazingly homey. The adults had quiet spots to enjoy morning coffee and read during the day. There was so much detail taken to decorate for Christmas that we couldn’t stop talking about all of the new things we noticed all week long. Leslee is a gem and her love for hosting is so obvious in herself and what she has put into this home. After only a five minute introduction my wife feels like they are besties. I will return so you may want to book early.
Laughing Bear Lodge Terrific!
We were adult siblings and cousins reuniting for a long weekend. The surrounding area is lovely and offers hiking, rafting, golfing, shopping and sight-seeing. But we wouldn't have needed to go anywhere else. The Lodge and property are amazing! We cooked for a crowd in the ample kitchen, ate on the deck or around he kitchen counter and dining table, played with the "toys" inside and out, waded, fished, visited on the deck and inside porch, shared family pictures and videos on the big screen TVs. Will return asap!
