Needs a thorough cleaning

Fundamentally the house was ok but really not clean - at all. To be fair, host did refund the cleaning fee as consideration. Read further for details. Within a few minutes of our arrival we noticed the house did not seem clean - either on a superficial or a deep level. We are pretty easy going and we had just driven 10 hours to arrive just before bed, so we settled in. But for example we pulled out a cutting board to cut fruit for our breakfast and there were chunks of orange pulp and still wet orange juice on the cutting board - even though it was in the cabinet. The bathroom sink had what we thought were hard water stains on the drain, but when we touched it, it was just gross grey brown scum - wiped off easily with a piece of TP. Another example was the BBQ, which the handle was super gross and just covered with fat and BBQ sauce - the door back into the kitchen had the same treatment. On a deeper level, there was a thick layer of dust and scum on top of the shower enclosure and the bathroom fan was caked with thick dust. There was a strange smell in that bathroom as well that was pervasive - best guess is the drains are clogged and there is hair and soap down there just stinking. But we didn't look into it. With a good thorough cleaning this will be a nice rental, but we were grossed out enough that we never cooked a meal there and were very happy to leave.
