If it's a water experience that you are looking for, this is it! The perfect vacation spot for the family. There is something for everyone - there is a shallow area for the little ones to play and deep water for swimming and floating. There is a floating dock to play on. We have 2 sea otter kayaks, a canoe, and pontoon paddleboat for you to explore the lake. The cabin is at the head of the cove. There is a 125 foot dock crossing the lake. There is an bonfire area with benches and of course, fishing. The clarity of Lake Lure has earned it a high rating for bass fishing.
Nestled among the native rhododendrons and dogwoods of the Appalachian Mountains sets this unique little cabin. Built in the early 1970’s, it is one of the older quaint lakefront homes on Lake Lure. It is truly an exceptional find in that it is set on a 14-acres at the head of Sunset Cove. Also, it is built partially out over the water, which allows an unobstructed view from the porch directly down the cove to the main channel, Chimney Rock, and most importantly the sun setting over the mountains. It is one of the finest views on the lake.
Let us take you back to the earlier, unhurried days of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge area. Leave the busy life behind and return to the days of real relaxation and rest. You can lounge on the deck in the warm summer sun reading a good book, fish from the dock as the water licks at your feet, swim in the cool refreshing water, go kayaking down the cove, or just sit and watch the sun sparkle and move across the water and then sink behind the mountains.
In its own right, our cabin and dock/bridge are famous - if you're a movie buff. In 1983, several scenes from the movie, Firestarter, were filmed on the property. The most memorable being when Charlie and her dad were captured by 'the Shop' while crossing our very own dock. The film featured an all-star cast with Drew Berrymore, Martin Sheen, & George C. Scott.
The dock/bridge mentioned above extends all the way across the end of the cove(approx. 100 feet)and is truly unique. The entire bridge is ideal for the fishing enthusiast. For your enjoyment, we have 2 Sea Otter kayaks are on hand as well as a canoe, and 12 ft pontoon paddle boat - all ready to explore Sunset Cove and Lake Lure. Life jackets are on hand as well.
We invite you to come and enjoy your own private get-a-way at Papa Bob’s Cabin. It is a one-room cabin with a large private bathroom/changing area. You will find a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa. There is a loft with two twin beds. Appliances include a full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker. There is central heat and air and a Weber grill. So, bring a good book, your swimsuit, your fishing pole and come relax.

About Jenny Cox
Hi,we are Tom, Jenny, Samuel and Isaac Cox. Our Lake Lure cabin has been in our family for over 45 years. Thank you Papa Bob! We love Lake Lure because it makes you feel that you are a million miles away and the views and peace and quiet turn our focus on the bigger picture, away from the daily details that pull at us. We invite you to enjoy our cabin. Come and relax!
Jenny Cox purchased this Cabin in 1971
Why Jenny Cox chose Sunset Cove

Charming Little Lake House
I stayed with my son for a fishing weekend. Rented the pontoon boat too. It is perched at the end of a cove overlooking gorgeous Lake Lure. It is the perfect little getaway for a small crew. I shot some fantastic pictures and have even better memories. ;-)
Beautiful home with beautiful mountain view.
We loved the home inside and out. We felt at home the moment we walked in the door. The property was fun to explore and the fishing was great right off of the dock. Very peaceful and relaxing...and there weren't a million steps to climb to get to the water..We are already planning our next trip.
Wonderful Weekend Getaway
We had a wonderful and relaxing time at Papa Bob's Cabin! Jenny was incredibly hospitable and made us feel right at home! The cabin had plenty of space for the 3 of us and the bathroom was large if you wanted some privacy. The fishing right of the dock was plentiful and we really enjoyed using the kayaks, canoe and paddle boat to explore the lake. The sunsets at night were the most incredible we have ever seen. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and enjoyable weekend getaway at the Lake! We would definitely come back and bring more friends to stay at Papa Bobs and the rental property next door. Thank you Jenny for everything - you made it truly comfortable for us! - Claudia & Shawn
Serene, Secluded, and Sublime
Papa Bob's Cabin turned out to be the absolute perfect setting for our 10 year anniversary. From its quaint charm to its picturesque setting, PBC delivered an unforgettable memory for us.
Picking highlights is a challenge, but I would say the fact that cabin is ON the water is at the top of the list. With a single step, you go from the living space to standing over the lake. It's perfect. The other standout is the privacy of being the last house on the cove. Launch your floats and relax without having to worry about passersby.
The owners, Jenny and Tom, were very organized, attentive, and accommodating. We would highly recommend PBC.
Papa Bob's allure
We visited lake lure for the first time last weekend and had a great stay at papa bob's. We came up to surprise my wife for her birthday and she LOVED it. It was a perfect fit for our family. Two kids are great swimmers and my son loves to fish.
We never left the lake. Fishing from the Paddle boat, kayaking in the early morning, swimming off the dock. A Tranquil, beautiful, natural, and serene setting to unwind. We stayed 3 nights and found it hard to leave. We hope to return with frequency. Thanks for opening up your cabin!
Our vacation from California began with a 3 night stay at Papa Bob's cabin. Wow, so peaceful, beautiful area. The cabin was perfect. Secluded in a cove. Loved the morning coffee on the deck overlooking the lake, watching and listening to the quiet and nature surrounding the area.
My husband fished from the canoe in the cove, caught bass during the early morning quiet time. We enjoyed a sunset cruise on the paddle boat in the cove. This cabin has everything you need and more!
Thank you for the great memories!
