Spectacular Bali Style Vacation Home in Atenas

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6) SHORT TERM BOOKINGS ONLY

SHORT TERM BOOKINGS ONLY--Relax in lovely Villa Picaflora, a private gated community located two kilometers outside of the town of Atenas. We are centrally located in Costa Rica, about 25 kilometers from the airport, and near the new highway to San Jose and the Pacific beaches.

This beautifully landscaped Bali-style home is located high on a ridge with fantastic views of the scenic mountains and valleys surrounding Atenas. The house has three bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, one with a queen-size bed and an optional twin bed, and each with a full bathroom ensuite. The third bedroom has a twin bed. The design is open concept with awesome cathedral ceilings, sliding glass doors to the outside patios in all rooms, and lovely handcrafted furnishings throughout. The property has a large parking area, a private infinity pool, and a pond.

Atenas is a friendly rural town. Close to all amenities, the Atenas area has many restaurants, supermarkets, medical and dental services, banks and a post office. Bustling San Jose is only a 30 minute drive away. Easy day trips to many of Costa Rica's famous attractions (beaches, volcanos and rain forests) are possible.

The weather in Atenas is ideal - the best in the world if you will - warm and breezy by day, low humidity, and comfortably cool at night. Air conditioning or heating are never needed!

Spectacular !!! One of a kind !

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home. John and Dianne have done a great job providing everything that you could possibly need. I was staying alone for a few days and felt very secure in gated environment. The house, setting, pool everything is stunning !!! Beautiful sunrises, outstanding concert of birds in the morning. It really was hard to leave.

Wonderful, secluded with best views

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Villa Quince - very spacious, private, nicely decorated, with all the amenities one could wish for. We were in a small gated neighborhood built on a ridge, so we felt very safe and we were very close to Atenas, even on foot. I actually did my runs down the hill, have my morning coffee and walk back - 2.8 km. The evenings were cool enough, the days were hot, so we enjoyed the swimming pool very much. We were also close to the highway towards the Pacific coast beaches and close to some of the attractions in the Central Valley. We highly recommend this home, the owners are kind and present if you need them, they made us feel very welcomed and we are grateful that they shared this beautiful house with us.

Oh, and we’ve seen so much wild life, birds (even toucans), a sloth, iguanas, a toad etc, we felt one with nature. Hard to leave.

Private paradise!

  • 4 of 5

Casa Quince sits on a mountain ridge just outside of Atenas. Spectacular views await you both day and night. John and Diane were perfect hosts for our five day stay in February. Their large, open, two bedroom, two and an half bath home is beautifully appointed and equipped with all the comforts of home. Our hosts were readily available to answer any questions or concerns both before and during our stay. Atenas is about an half hour downhill walk from the house and a $3 uphill cab ride back. We travelled into town to dinner four of our five nights. Our favaourite restaurant being Los Antano. We hired a white taxi ($20 round trip) to take us to el Toledo for an educational coffee tour. The taxi ride to the airport was approximately thirty five minutes at six a.m. and cost about $30. The hot days were spent either by the private unheated infinity pool or in the shade of one of the two patios. Evenings are cooler for sleeping with a constant breeze through the opened but screened sliding doors. There is no air conditioning or television but neither is necessary. If you are looking for somewhere quiet and restful Casa Quince is a perfect spot.

Simply wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend this place. It is located on a quiet, gated side road and has sweeping views of the beautiful central highland. The side road leading to Guacimo is excellent for walks or an early morning run; no stray dogs and hardly any traffic.

With three decks around the house you can always find a shady spot or escape the strong winds, depending on the weather. The little garden behind is beautiful. We really enjoyed watching and listening to the many different birds - it is immensely relaxing!

The master bed is comfy, the kitchen is fully equipped and everything is in spotless condition. We prepared most of our dinners at home and only went out for lunch.

Diane and John are charming hosts and have good advice on restaurants and things to do in the area.

terrific experience

Costa Rica is a beautiful country. The people of very friendly. The weather is perfect. What a great place to vacation

John and Diane's house in the PicaFlora community is just like the pictures present. The lay out of the house is very comfortable and the views from all sides of the house are scenic. We loved the fact that we could open the sliding doors and feel like we were outside all the time.

The kitchen was lovely to cook in, we ate most of our evening meals at the house, outside overlooking the valley. A spectacular view! The pools was a tad bit cool but once you got use to it, a perfect refreshing experience. The gardens surrounding the pool were very pretty and well maintained.

The town of Atenas is a nice, safe community. We explored several restaurants recommended by John, attended the catholic church, went to the awesome market on Friday, and discovered a really good fish market "Del Mar". They had a Chili Tasting Fund Raising event while we were there. This was an excellent opportunity to meet some of the local Expats and enjoyed hearing about their recommendations and experiences. We had such a nice time at this event. We experienced the Pacific Coast, ventured to Sarchi, took a tour of the El Toledo coffee plantation (a must do Tour) drove to the Poas Volcano (unfortunately the cloud cover was very heavy and we could see nothing, despite the fact we arrived early morning, and the cost is salty) This was my first experience of driving in a foreign country. A bit nerve racking although I did adjust, must admit the roads are much different than the US. Some of the "roads" I drove on were more like paths!

We will definitely return to this beautiful country. These is so much to see and explore.

Loved John and Diane's house, although it was not as clean as I would have liked.

We highly recommend some spanish usage and most restaurants and shops prefer colones instead of US dollars or credit cards

Peaceful Serenity with Gracious Hosts

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had much pleasure staying in this beautifully-appointed, understated home atop a ridge in the Central Valley. Its central location near the town of Atenas made it convenient for necessary shopping (including a great outdoor market on Fridays), as well as close enough to the San Jose airport to permit an easy introduction to this beautiful country, and city life, if desired.

The home is well-designed, well-maintained, with comfortable furnishings/amenities, and spectacular views from every point in the house. We especially enjoyed the back patio, as we breakfasted with the sunrise, and ate dinner as the night lights appeared throughout the valley. Lounging by the intimate pool, just off the master bedroom, was so relaxing as the birds flitted about and beautiful flowers adorned the garden. (Photos do not capture the beauty of the house/gardens.)

Day trips to the Doka Coffee Plantation, Irazu Volcano, and the Lankester Botanical Gardens were all interesting, worthwhile adventures that show off what this Central Valley region has to offer.

Our gracious hosts, Diane and John, were so informative and helpful, even assisting us with a phone purchase in Atenas on our first day. In addition to answering our myriad of questions, they (and their friendly neighbors) graciously entertained us on a day trip to the beautiful beaches at Esterillos. Thanks so much to Diane and John. We could not ask for a more comfortable and enjoyable week in your splendid home-away-from home. We'll be sure to consider your home if coming to Costa Rica again and highly recommend it to others.
