Nice but with some issues

  • 2 of 5

The cabin looks nice and the view was great but there were some issues with several things, the biggest issue is that the cabin needs a good cleaning. For example the decorations were extremely dusty and the items on the kitchen counters had a greasy/dusty film on them. The sheets for the trundle bed were shoved into a pillow case like they were dirty and there was no soap for the washing machine. This made one of our guest question if the rest of the bedding was clean (they are a bit OCD ) and caused them a lot of stress. The second issue we had was that we had 7 people on the reservation so we would need to use the trundle bed and the sofa bed, I never found sheets for the sofa and it took 3 adults to pull the trundle out. The bed was coming apart in a couple of places and one of the poles for the canopy was not screwed in properly and came out if you leaned on the support pole. Thankfully my son has a hard head and when it hit him it did no damage. Thirdly there was no soap in any of the bathrooms for the showers, this would not be a big deal if it was noted in the description but it is not, it actually states that small bars of soap are provided. The kitchen table is not useful for dinning especially if you have children the surface is not flat and drinks easily tip over.

Also the directions for checking out need to be clarified we found 2 different sets of directions in the cabin that contradicted each other and got a third set via email. We ended up picking one to follow... hopefully the correct one.

Maybe I have too high a standard but with all the 5 star reviews I was expecting a much smoother stay.

Owner's Response: We are very surprised to receive this review. We do our best to maintain it very clean and with many more amenities than any other cabin in the valley while still being priced below all other properties. We advise guests that we provide a basic starter kit such as hand soap, plenty dishwasher cubes, dish liquid, garbage bags, toilet and paper towel to get you started. We don't provide bath soaps or detergent for guests and advise to bring their own. The sheets for sofa bed are always in the closet in the main level and were still there today after checkout. The sheets for trundle were there and in the sham and asked housekeeping to ensure they put it on when we know we will have a full house as we include the number of guests to housekeeping. We are up here for the holidays and personally reviewing your comments. Our place is located on a loop road so you can technically come up 2 ways/roads. We always suggest the 1st option so you drive right into driveway and don't have to make any turns to get in. We keep our place homey and rustic. The dining table is a handmade piece by a local craftsman. We have tablecloths to put over and smooth the surface. It's part of the feel. We appreciate your feedback and have asked housekeeping to place sheets for sofa right on it for future and no misunderstanding.

A beautiful location close to all of the amenities

  • 4 of 5

The property was gorgeous and the view was spectacular! There was enough room for all of us to spread out. I'm only giving it a 4 rating because if we would if had all 10 of our party show up, I don't know where they would have slept. I recommend a futon or some type of sitting in the pool room. I wish the hot tub would of gotten hotter than 97 degrees, but we still thoroughly enjoyed it. The owners were gracious enough to assist us with getting the fireplace going again (easy fix). I would stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments and review! We highly appreciate it!. The hot tub must have been on sleep or economy mode as it goes to that after sometime (2 days or so) from being closed to conserve energy. Next time, let us know to show you where to change that back to normal and it would be at 102 in not time like we did with the fireplace! As far as capacity, our cabin description states that it sleeps 8 with max capacity of 10. Our bed description lists beds for 8. We welcome 2 more additional guests because it is roomy and you can sleep on air mattresses (not provided) in game room or living room.

About Angel and Mabel Rivera

We are hardworking professionals who enjoy the city life and enjoy escaping to the mountains as much as we can. We enjoy riding our motorcycle, ballroom dancing, and traveling. We have 2 miniature schnauzers.

Angel and Mabel Rivera purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Angel and Mabel Rivera chose Sevierville

We have enjoyed coming to the Smokies for over 17 years and worked hard to finally purchase Storyteller. We remember the realtor taking us around town to see cabins but the minute we walked into Storyteller, we were hooked. The gazebo is what gave us the idea to call the cabin Storyteller. Our families were used to gathering for hours on end and telling stories about life, funny moments, and stories they wanted us to remember and pass on.

What makes this cabin unique

When staying at Storyteller, we enjoy the scenery of the mountains, rafting, shopping, but most of all doing nothing at all; just relaxing.
