About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 12-14)

This beautiful Low Country home will take your breath away with its stunning saltwater marsh views, Spanish Moss draped live oaks, and peaceful atmosphere. Located on a two and half acre waterfront lot with deepwater dock access to Boyd Creek, this spacious home has six bedrooms and four baths, and enough room to accommodate up to fourteen people! The house is divided, by an indoor hallway (SEE LAYOUT PHOTO), into two separate units each with 3 bedrooms, two baths and their own kitchen, living room and laundry. This unique layout is perfect for groups that want to vacation together but would also benefit from separate living quarters. You will find that there are many useful benefits to this distinctive layout. For example, if the kids want to watch one movie but the adults want to watch another, or if one group likes to sleep in while the other group likes to get up early, they can easily do so without disturbing each other.

The location of this house is truly breathtaking. Take a walk out on the dock and drink in the views of Boyd Creek, the surrounding marsh and over 100 species of birds and assorted wildlife. You can catch such fish as sharks, Cobia, Red Fish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder right off the end of the dock or go Blue Crab crabbing or shrimping in the marsh. There is a boat ramp a tenth of a mile down the road where you can put in your boat. From there you have easy access to the Beaufort Broad River. Also, feel free to enjoy the use of our kayaks and admire such sights as dolphins, beautiful sunsets, and true southern splendor.

For the hunters in your family, this Jasper County home is the perfect fit. Close by are many hunting properties. The local area boasts Eastern Wild Turkey and excellent duck hunting. We also have the longest deer season in the U.S. from August 15th to January 1st. On the other hand, If you are looking for a more laid-back getaway, we have you covered. Enjoy bird watching or a colorful sunrise from the screened-in porch where you can also spend your nights gazing at the stars. You can also enjoy the large grassed yard by playing a game of football or grilling out on the charcoal grill.

The peaceful town of Ridgeland is located between Charleston and Savannah. Immediately you will feel at home and welcomed by the Southern charm of this small town. Ridgeland has great local shopping and restaurants as well as state parks and other outdoor activities. Encounter the many grand beauties of Jasper County at the Blue Heron Nature Center. This 4,200 square foot log cabin nature center sits on 10 acres of green space with a nature trail featuring native plants, wildlife, and even a butterfly garden.

Staying at this home is a favorite for families attending their son or daughter's graduation from the US Marine Corps base camp on Parris Island, just 30 minutes from the house. In addition, for those looking to shop and experience some southern hospitality, Hilton Head Island is 45 minutes away. Hilton Head offers over two dozen championship golf courses, 100 tennis courts, and over 50 miles of public bike and nature trails. The island features over 200 outlet and department stores and many local boutiques. It is a 50 minute drive from the house to popular and historic Savannah. There you can experience fine art, extensive shopping, and a wide variety of delicious local restaurants. The house is also located 45 minutes from historic Beaufort and an hour and a half from beautiful Charleston.

This gorgeous low country home has something for every member of the family, so come and visit where true southern hospitality and the beauties of nature collide!

About Esther Dennis

We are South Carolina residents and we love traveling down to the Low Country. We love to take our daughter to historical sites and the Low Country is full of them! We bought the Blue Crab Retreat because of its proximity to all the wonderful places nearby along with its privacy and beautiful views. When we found out you could crab right off the dock we were sold!

Why Esther Dennis chose Low Country & Resort Islands

I began frequently traveling to this area through work. As I spent more time working in the area, I decided to purchase a home so that I had a place to stay while in the Low Country and a place to bring my family for vacations. We love escaping to the picturesque views and flourishing wildlife. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I would like to say thank-you.....We had a wonderful stay at the marsh home at Parris Island. The structure of the double house was perfect for our family of 10. The description of the layout was accurate, the facility was very clean and well-maintained. The screened porch was relaxing and the common gathering place. The dock and kayaks encouraged fun in the sun. We especially enjoyed the fire pit (and free wood) in the evenings. We were surprised that being directly on the marsh there were no bugs! We came here to see my son graduate from Marine boot camp at Parris Island. The drive to Parris Island was reasonable, 30 minutes. We left early to allow time for the security check at the base. (Remember to remove any Swiss army knives or pepper spray from key chains. The Marine base also allows you to take a cooler in your vehicle. We packed a cooler of water which saved us from purchasing drinks on the base. The cooler had to stay in the car, the parking lot was centrally located to all activities.) I would recommend this vacation home to everyone!

Loved every bit of it!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at your Stunning Marsh Home. It was everything it promised to be. We were able to enjoy time before and after our son's graduation from boot camp and the ride to Parris Island wasn't bad at all. We would love to return if life ever sends us to the south again. Thank you so much.

Low Country Bliss

  • 5 of 5

Our family absolutely fell in love with "Blue Crab Retreat". Beautiful, quiet setting with great SC Low Country feel. The house is very spacious and provided everything we needed. We enjoyed lounging on the huge porch and grilling out burgers and hot dogs on the nice electric grill. We fished from the dock daily and caught a few keepers. My wife and I went kayaking one evening, which was very enjoyable! I highly recommend this property to anyone. My family will definitely be back!

Great Vacation Spot and Easy to Work With

  • 5 of 5

Having never used VRBO before, we didn't know what to expect. What a wonderful start! The owners were kind and accommodating. They were quick to respond and answered all questions with ease. The house was immaculate...modern, but off the beaten path. All sites were within an hours driving distance and Ridgeland offered everything needed to fill the fridge. We thoroughly enjoyed the dock, the kayaks, fishing and, my favorite, the blue crabs. We went to Huntington Beach, toured Savannah, and chartered a boat in Hilton Head with Captain Kent of Megabite Fishing Charters, and caught 10 sharks!!! Yes, 10! We were scheduled earlier in the season and suffered a loss in the family. The level of expert communication with Dennis, was beyond measure. To be offered the opportunity to reschedule our trip was beyond kind and unexpected. Thank you, Both, for this wondrous vacation getaway and for working with us to make it happen! Virgin Islands...here we come!

Perfect Large Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I came down from TN and her family came up from FL to spend a long weekend together. The divided-but-together layout served our 11-person group perfectly. Loved the huge screened-in porch & walking out to sit on the dock and enjoy the breezes. All was clean, well-furnished, and comfortable. Kayaking on the river was quite fun. I think all were in agreement that we will be spending more family get-togethers there in the future. A great time was had by all. Highly recommend Blue Crab Retreat!!

Lots of room, great space for big family.

  • 5 of 5

The property worked very well for us. The trip was for USMC boot camp Graduation so we had some sitting around waiting time. It was nice to have a place we could all be together, and have room to spread out a little. The dock and the kayaks were a big hit (watch the tides) as well as the fire pit. The property is a bit remote, and farther from Parris Island than I realized (still very doable) and we had to travel a bit for dinner and groceries. But overall a very nice place and the owners are very easy to work with.
