We are South Carolina residents and we love traveling down to the Low Country. We love to take our daughter to historical sites and the Low Country is full of them! We bought the Blue Crab Retreat because of it's proximity to all the wonderful places nearby along with it's privacy and beautiful views. When we found out you could crab right off the dock we were sold!
Esther Dennis purchased this house in 2008
I began frequently traveling to this area through work. As I spent more time working in the area, I decided to purchase a home so I had a place to stay while in the area and a place bring my family for vacations. We love escaping to the picturesque views and flourishing wildlife. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!
I would like to say thank-you.....We had a wonderful stay at the marsh home at Parris Island. The structure of the double house was perfect for our family of 10. The description of the layout was accurate, the facility was very clean and well-maintained. The screened porch was relaxing and the common gathering place. The dock and kayaks encouraged fun in the sun. We especially enjoyed the fire pit (and free wood) in the evenings. We were surprised that being directly on the marsh there were no bugs! We came here to see my son graduate from Marine boot camp at Parris Island. The drive to Parris Island was reasonable, 30 minutes. We left early to allow time for the security check at the base. (Remember to remove any Swiss army knives or pepper spray from key chains. The Marine base also allows you to take a cooler in your vehicle. We packed a cooler of water which saved us from purchasing drinks on the base. The cooler had to stay in the car, the parking lot was centrally located to all activities.) I would recommend this vacation home to everyone!
We had a great time. The house had more than enough room for all of us. Everything was clean and well kept. Lots of outdoor space for the kids to play.
Nice and quiet location, home was clean and well kept. The dock was great and caught a lot of blue crabs. Home is well equipped with everything you need. I would highly recommend staying there.
Only 2 very minor complaints. Water pressure was extremely weak, not sure if this is common in the south, and the home needs a much more powerful Wifi system. The current Wifi was slow and it was difficult making a Wifi phone call on a cell phone. Neither one of these issues would stop me from staying there in the future.
We had 10 for Marine graduation. This house was perfect. Wish we had longer visit to enjoy it all. The screened in porch was my favorite, enjoyed coffee in the morning before sun came up. Everyone even teenage boys commented how nice the beds and sheets were. We would not hesitate to come back. Recommended to several recruits families. Thank you!
The layout was perfect for our stay to watch our son/grandson/cousin/best friend graduate as a Marine! It was an easy trip to PI. I would book again to just come and explore the area.
Loved being able to have plenty of room and share in a family meal. Walking out on the dock was great as well. It was near to see the tide come in. We didn't get a chance to use the kayaks, which would have been neat to do.
This place is the most blissful, beautiful, and perfect place you could find on the South Carolina coast. The photos don't do it justice. I have a large family and it was a struggle finding a place large enough with just enough privacy, but this place was magnificent. It was clean and cool. The back porch was covered and we didn't have any problems with the mosquitoes. The house is in a private place and right on the river. High tide was the best time! We went crabbing every day and caught so many crabs!!! There are quite a few places to fish, even in your own backyard. There are so many trees and so much shade and cool air. It was so peaceful. About 45 minutes from the nearest beach in Hilton Head, but just close enough for shopping, dining, site seeing, and pretty much anything we wanted to do! I recommend this place for families, large groups of any kind, and anyone looking to fully enjoy real southern charm!
We recently stayed at this summer home and our stay was excellent! We spent most of our time on the covered dock and screened in porch and what a blast. The crabbing is phenomenal only surpassed by the wonderful sunsets. We were a little apprehensive about the split floor plan before we arrived but it is wonderdul, especially for a large family like ours. We look forward to staying again, the next time being in the fall. The owners are fantastic and so is the property !
The house is located between Hilton Head and Beaufort. Beaches, shopping, and history are just around the corner. The salt water marsh provides amazing experiences with nature such as bird watching, fishing, crabbing, and kayaking.
