This beautiful Low Country home will take your breath away with its stunning saltwater marsh views, Spanish Moss draped live oaks, and peaceful atmosphere. Located on a three acre waterfront lot with deepwater dock access to Boyd Creek, this spacious home has six bedrooms and four baths, and enough room to accommodate up to fourteen people! The house is divided, by an indoor hallway (SEE LAYOUT PHOTO), into two separate units each with 3 bedrooms, two baths and their own kitchen, living room and laundry. This unique layout is perfect for groups that want to vacation together but would also benefit from separate living quarters. You will find that there are many useful benefits to this distinctive layout. For example, if the kids want to watch one movie but the adults want to watch another, or if one group likes to sleep in while the other group likes to get up early, they can easily do so without disturbing each other.

The location of this house is truly breathtaking. Take a walk out on the dock and drink in the views of Boyd Creek and over 100 species of birds and assorted wildlife. You can catch such fish as sharks, Cobia, Red Fish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder right off the end of the dock or go Blue Crab crabbing or shrimping in the marsh. There is a county boat ramp that is located next door. From there you have easy access to the Beaufort Broad River. Also, feel free to enjoy the use of our kayaks and admire such sights as dolphins, beautiful sunsets, and true southern splendor. After enjoying the beautiful outdoors, sit back and relax in our huge screened-in porch or spend quality family time gathered around the fire pit.

For the hunters in your family, this Jasper County home is the perfect fit. Close by are many hunting properties. The local area boasts Eastern Wild Turkey and excellent duck hunting. We also have the longest deer season in the U.S. from August 15th to January 1st. In addition, if you want to bring a boat with you on vacation, Tuten Landing Boat Ramp is located next to the home. On the other hand, If you are looking for a more laid-back getaway, we have you covered. Enjoy bird watching or a colorful sunrise from the screened-in porch where you can also spend your nights gazing at the stars. You can also enjoy the large grassed yard by playing a game of football or grilling out on the charcoal grill.

The peaceful Town of Ridgeland is located between Charleston and Savannah. Immediately you will feel at home and welcomed by the Southern charm of this small town. Ridgeland has great local shopping and restaurants as well as state parks and other outdoor activities. Encounter the many grand beauties of Jasper County at the Blue Heron Nature Center. This 4,200 square foot log cabin nature center sits on 10 acres of green space with a nature trail featuring native plants, wildlife, and even a butterfly garden.

Staying at this home is a favorite for families attending their son or daughter's graduation from the US Marine Corps base camp on Parris Island, just 30 minutes from the house. In addition, for those looking to shop and experience some southern hospitality, Hilton Head Island is 45 minutes away. Hilton Head offers over two dozen championship golf courses, 100 tennis courts, and over 50 miles of public bike and nature trails. The island features over 200 outlet and department stores and many local boutiques. It is a 50 minute drive from the house to popular and historic Savannah. There you can experience fine art, extensive shopping, and a wide variety of delicious local restaurants. The house is also located 45 minutes from historic Beaufort and an hour and a half from beautiful Charleston.

This gorgeous Low Country home has something for every member of the family, so come and visit where true southern hospitality and the beauties of nature collide!

About Esther Dennis

We are South Carolina residents and we love traveling down to the Low Country. We love to take our daughter to historical sites and the Low Country is full of them! We bought the Blue Crab Retreat because of its proximity to all the wonderful places nearby along with its privacy and beautiful views. When we found out you could crab right off the dock we were sold!

Esther Dennis purchased this house in 2008

Why Esther Dennis chose Ridgeland

I began frequently traveling to this area through work. As I spent more time working in the area, I decided to purchase a home so that I had a place to stay while in the Low Country and a place to bring my family for vacations. We love escaping to the picturesque views and flourishing wildlife. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I would like to say thank-you.....We had a wonderful stay at the marsh home at Parris Island. The structure of the double house was perfect for our family of 10. The description of the layout was accurate, the facility was very clean and well-maintained. The screened porch was relaxing and the common gathering place. The dock and kayaks encouraged fun in the sun. We especially enjoyed the fire pit (and free wood) in the evenings. We were surprised that being directly on the marsh there were no bugs! We came here to see my son graduate from Marine boot camp at Parris Island. The drive to Parris Island was reasonable, 30 minutes. We left early to allow time for the security check at the base. (Remember to remove any Swiss army knives or pepper spray from key chains. The Marine base also allows you to take a cooler in your vehicle. We packed a cooler of water which saved us from purchasing drinks on the base. The cooler had to stay in the car, the parking lot was centrally located to all activities.) I would recommend this vacation home to everyone!

Had a spectacular time!

  • 5 of 5

We gathered our large 3-generation family for a few days before Christmas and had a great time! The weather cooperated, so the dock, kayaks, crab traps and the river were hugely popular. So fascinating how the tides come and go. The kids asked all day to go kayaking. Life jackets and paddles are provided which is great. We planned our meals and the 2-kitchen set up was ideal for getting everyone fed. We went over to Hilton Head for a morning on the beach which was only about a 45-min drive. It was cool but sunny and the kids loved it. No crowds, either!

Thank you, Dennis family, for opening your home. And for leaving Christmas trees for us! We had such a special family time!

Great space for a large crowd

  • 4 of 5

This house is a duplex with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room on each side. The back porch connects the two spaces. It's nicely decorated and clean. The beds were all rather firm, but not too uncomfortable. It's nice to have two dishwashers!! It would have been nice to have two washing machines, but the front loader that was there worked very well.

It's nice to be on a large lot with space around you. There are several swings and the firepit was wonderful! The view is beautiful and the boat landing is right around the corner!

The dock is a long walk but it's well built.

We enjoyed our stay! Thanks!

We had a great stay. Plenty of room for 9 of us. The porch and the dock were our favorite places!

When we arrived there was a personal note welcoming us and congratulating our Marine. The house was clean and ready for us. It had the things we needed - sheets, towels, kitchen items. We found a good place to eat and a Walmart for shopping not too far away. It took us about 30 minutes to get to Parris Island. Drive was actually quite beautiful.

The property was our favorite part. What a beautiful part of the country. We enjoyed the dock and did a little fishing. We enjoyed eating meals on the porch.

I would recommend this property. The owners were readily available to answer questions prior to our arrival and were always very nice.

Great place for families

We all had a great time. We were in town for our sons Marine Corps Graduation. Everyone enjoyed crabbing off the pier. The screen porch was the busiest place as we all aways gathered on it. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this lovely home for 4 nights. We were in the area for my son's graduation from Parris Island. The trip to Parris Island took about 35-40 minutes, but the location was perfect for us. The home was spacious...we loved having two living rooms and kitchens. The screen room was an awesome way to enjoy the outside without the love bugs. But our favorite part was the dock. My family caught tons of blue crabs and shrimp; enough to feed a large family several times. We had fun swimming, kayaking, fishing, and playing in the mud when the tides went out. We are hoping to come back next year for a family vacation. Loved It! Thank you for sharing your home with us
