You will see touches of my French collection of art, antiques, garden ornaments and fountains throughout my property which I continue to enhance on my travels. My large collection upstairs and downstairs of books includes an impressive selection of books on the historical influences found in gardens around the world. I also have a large selection of poetry books that may be of some interest to some of our visitors.

I am not always here to greet you but you will sense my welcome to you when you arrive in my uniquely appointed home and gardens. Merci for considering staying with us. We look forward to your visit.

MICHELLE SIMONETTE LEBLANC purchased this house in 2007

Why MICHELLE SIMONETTE LEBLANC chose Uptown-Carrollton

There is no more vibrant, personable, and walkable section of New Orleans then Riverbend where the myriad of 19th century houses and its people have such character. Since I write and lecture on the historical gardens I have found a great resource from my strolls through the glorious neighborhoods that surround my home and gardens.

What makes this house unique

Experience the charm of an authentic 19th century New Orleans home with its upscale comforts yet historical references. The 12 ft. ceilings, exquisite furnishings, and large rooms are one of the first thing some guest note on their arrival. Others enjoy exploring the rooms to view the fine art and antiques that they discover on their stay. However, one of the most wonderful experience is the warm and gracious setting one feels in the kitchen for breakfast or dinner where fond memories are made through good food and conversation. You will want to cook in this kitchen and then slip outside to the outside dinning area to enjoy the twinkling lights strung along the 7 foot stucco walled garden wall all year long. The favorite spot most of my guests enjoy gathering is the verdant expanse of the pool area with its numerous seating areas The sound of the fountains flowing makes for a romantic candle lite night. In the warmer months most of my guest have chosen to sip cocktails by the pool while they take a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing. There are many places to have private conversations on the grounds that has several gardens enclosed behind stucco walls and antique gates. My favorite is star gazing on the upstairs terrace on a clear night.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved our stay at the absolutely beautiful Oulala House. The owner's profession as a garden ornament consultant could be seen everywhere from the front door 19thc urns to the antique olive jars in the pool and garden area. We were delighted at how many goodies the owner had put out to welcome us upon our arrival. Wine, milk, bacon, eggs, coffee, orange juice, cookies, chips, nuts and her signature chocolate kisses throughout the house in bowls. Fresh flowers on tables and in hallways made us feel like we were at arriving at a special party just for us. The house is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in Old New Orleans, but has all the modern conveniences that we would want. The wonderful patio gazebo and pool was our favorite gathering spots where string lights and candles set a great mood for the night. We want to come back next year, as this was a memorable experience. You will love your vacation here!

VRBO Bear stayed here

The Oulala House in the Garden District of New Orleans is absolutely magnificent. Michelle, the host, was equally great. We were greeted by her upon our arrival and given a tour of the historic house, which was beautiful and spotlessly clean. We had 12 travelers on our trip and everyone stayed comfortably. There are plenty of bathrooms and beds to be able to sleep a large number of people. The backyard is incredibly well kept with beautiful landscaping and the pool was clean and inviting. It was a great relief from the humidity and nice to come home to each day. Michelle has provided several binders with a great amount of information on local restaurants, bars and attractions in the city, which made it easy to figure out exactly where we wanted to eat and find interesting places in the city to check out. The house is very conveniently located, right by the trolley tracks. For around $1, you can take a 30 minute trolley ride to Canal Street, which puts you near all of the big attractions and famous restaurants in the city.

Best. Weekend. Ever.

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this place justice. It is not dramatic when the word 'breathtaking' is used to describe it. It is one of the coolest houses I have ever been/stayed in and it was SO much bigger than it looked. Michelle and Lisa were so helpful when setting things up and their recommendations for restaurants and bars were spot on making the weekend an absolute blast. My first time in New Orleans was beyond perfect and definitely one to remember, with every one of us is already looking forward to coming back for girls trip round 2!

Owner's Response: WOW! What an incredible review! Thank you for your kind words. I cannot wait to share this review with Lisa as I know she wanted so much for yall to have a real insiders take on New Orleans. As yall found out , she is an amazing food writer in New Orleans and knows all there is to know about where to go for the coolest current experience. And then to hear it was your first time have to come back as New Orleans is calling you to do so! You can probably hear that all night music on Frenchman street in your dreams by now. Thank you for being such great guests. My staff is going to be so appreciative of your review too as they all work hard to make everything just right and it is more work than anyone would imagine . Hosting my home to guests from around the world has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my many careers. I was a publisher in the tourism industry for 20 years and loved sharing stories about New Orleans to all the visitors that came here and stayed at our hotels. Now, I get to share our city in a much more meaningful way, providing a real New Orleans experience by staying in a local's home, my home. There is so much controversy these days over the pros and cons of renting your home to visitors. All I know is that it is the way that I like to travel as it gives you a sense of place. " LIve like a local " is the best way to travel. Y'all come back soon!

I really can't say enough wonderful things about my stay at the Oulala House! From the very start Michelle was extremely personal, helpful and responsive. Even when I had a need outside of the set rules, she did her best to accommodate and make an exception. Although I simply made due with what I had already agreed to, I felt compelled to continue with my booking based on how Michelle tried to help me out.

I live in Hawaii as a personal chef and see multiple rentals on a weekly basis all over our island and I can honestly say this HomeAway is rates with some of the best I've seen. Sure the house was built decades ago, yes the decor is eclectic but just as you would expect to see the ocean and palm trees in Hawaii so would you expect to see a quirky, enchanted, aged, garden plantation home in the heart of New Orleans!

If you are a princess and need brand new everything and are unfamiliar with a home having "character", this is NOT the house for you! HOWEVER, if you have even the slightest interest in culture, charm, and are intrigued by uniqueness, don't wait. BOOK THIS HOUSE!!!!

I, very comfortably stayed with 7 other girls for a bachelorette weekend and we all slept, primped and dined seamlessly. We felt like queens wading around in the pool, strolling the neighborhood and making like we were high rollers as if we each individually owned this home. The convenience of the street car was UNREAL! Not only did we enjoy the view ever time we hoped on, you just can't beat the price. We had no need to rent a car and simply called on uber or lyft when we over slept and needed to get some where quick.

I can't imagine staying somewhere else the next time I visit. I wold even say, if Ouhlala is not available, I would most likely change my dates and wait until it was. SERIOUSLY the best memories and experience!

Mahalo Michelle for all of the thought and care you put into prepping the home and stocking us with snacks. We were very disappointed we didn't get to crack open your bottle of wine you gifted us. We over did it at Costco on the way in and couldn't finish everything. No one checked bags so we could not take it with us either. Mahalo to your sister as well, talking with her, chef to chef is no joke, the highlight of my year! I could not WAIT to ring my father and tell him about all the things I experienced in his birthplace. If you are ever in Hawaii, PLEASE, PLEASE get in touch with me!

Aloha! Until next time....

First time to NOLA and we are so glad that we decided to stay in a house than a hotel. I feel like my group and I were able to get the real NOLA experience by staying in the Garden District. This house is absolutely incredible! You must book to stay at this place! It is gorgeous and so elegant. We felt comfortable and safe here. Michelle and her sister were so sweet and accommodating 24/7. My only problem was that I didn't stay longer! I will definitely book again and would recommend staying here to everyone! Clean, beautiful, safe, comfortable, and easy accessible to everything in NOLA. It made our stay 100% awesome! Book Now! :)

From start to finish, our entire trip to New Orleans was fantastic. We were greeted by Lisa upon our arrival and she gave us a tour of the property and what restaurants and attractions are around the neighborhood. The neighborhood is very quiet with some awesome places that are walking distance. (Cooter Browns, Amelia's, Daiquiri place...etc) The pool was amazing and especially pretty at night. Michelle also had some bread & wine upon our arrival and eggs waiting in the fridge! The French Quarter was a 15 minute uber ride away which was very convenient. We will definitely be back!
