I reserved this property four months in advance for a Friday night stay with my wife and two young daughters. On the day of our reservation, we received the check-in instructions as expected. We arrived around 9:30 p.m., entered the provided door code, and it wouldn't open. After several attempts, someone INSIDE the apartment opened the door. This was startling, especially with my 10-year-old daughter standing beside me. There was a smell of marijuana coming from the apartment, and the person told us they had the property reserved and were staying there that night!I immediately called the host, got no answer, left a voicemail, and never received a return call. I then discovered the host had sent a message through the vrbo app around 3 p.m. that afternoon saying, and I quote, "I'm going to have to cancel your reservation because there is someone staying in the unit already".So there we were late at night, with two young children, in the middle of nowhere and suddenly without a place to sleep. Nearby hotels were full, and even hotels in International Falls were fully booked. We ultimately had to drive two hours to CANADA and pay about 250 for a last-minute hotel room.Canceling a reservation the day of the stay after it had been booked for four months is completely unacceptable. Book at your own risk and hope they don't do the same thing to you. Good luck!
