Experience the Best of Colorado from your Rustic Creekside Cabin!

Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Duplex cabin with 1 bedroom 1 bath per cabin. Rent one cabin or both cabins.

Experience Colorado to it's fullest in an authentic Rocky Mountain Cabin! Steps from the rushing creek in a pristine forest, leave the cares of the world behind and discover a true Colorado Rocky Mountain Vacation at The Call of the Canyon Cabins!

Nestled in a majestic canyon setting among tall pines and giant aspen trees is Call of the Canyon. Located at 8,900 feet above sea level on private land surrounded by Arapaho National Forest. West Chicago Creek runs through the entire property with many waterfalls and feeds a natural pool filled with pan sized rainbow and brook trout. The creek is literally just a few feet from your door, and can be seen and heard from your cabin.

Secluded yet convenient, rustic with modern comforts, only 40 minutes to downtown Denver and less than one hour from DIA. Just 6 miles to the nearby historic mountain town of Idaho Springs, and yet so far away. This property was featured in the September, 2008 issue of 303 Magazine.

The property consists of a duplex cabin containing two charming, clean and spacious vintage 1950's guest cabins that have been restored to their original nostalgic charm and an owner's cabin on approximately 7 very private and secluded wooded creek front acres.

Rent one or both guest cabins, which are ideally suited for everything from a romantic getaway for two to a small gathering of family or friends. Sleeps up to 6 guests in 2 cabins. There is NO television, telephone or stress!

The Fir and Pine Cabins are both fully furnished, well equipped, and tastefully decorated in a rustic cabin theme, complete with snowshoes and antique wooden skis. Each cabin features 1 bedroom and 1 bath, exterior log siding, full knotty pine interior, and hardwood floors throughout.

A large moss-rock wood burning fireplace is the focal point in the main room of each cabin, which consists of a living area with futon and rocking chair facing the fireplace, a well stocked full kitchen, and eating area with seating for 4-8 which faces a large picture window framing panoramic canyon and river views.

Each bedroom has a very comfortable queen-size log bed with feather mattress topper, quality flannel linens, fully encased mattresses, and beautiful quilts. There is a simple bathroom with shower off each bedroom. Locally handcrafted soaps and guest bathrobes are included.

An outdoor cedar sauna offers relaxation after a day of exploring, and there are plenty of private outdoor seating areas situated along the creek. Enjoy relaxing in the hammock or log bench on the secluded island next to a waterfall. Unobstructed canyon and mountain views offer spectacular night skyscapes.

Situated on a quiet, well-maintained county road with easy year round access. Just five hundred yards off the Mount Evans Scenic Byway and halfway between Idaho Springs and Echo Lake. Drive the highest paved road in the Northern Hemisphere which leads you to The Call of the Canyon.

This is where the Colorado Gold Rush begain in 1859! You can still explore working mines and pan for gold and gemstones or discover abandoned ghost towns nearby. The cabin is located on an historic gold and mineral mining claim. There were never any actual mines on the property, but you might get lucky panning for gold in the creek! Gold pans and instructions are provided.

FOUR 14,00+ foot peaks to explore nearby: Mt. Evans, Mt. Bierstadt, Gray's & Torrey's Peaks. World Class skiing at more than 6 major ski areas, all within 20 minutes to less than an hour away! Colorado's newest ski area, Echo Mountain Park, is only 12 miles from your cabin and offers night skiing. Enjoy shopping and dining in the nearby mountain towns of Idaho Springs, Georgetown and Evergreen.

For serious adventure seekers, take a whitewater rafting trip on one of the steepest raftable waterways in the nation, moments away and still one of Colorado's best kept secrets. Or try one of several new Zip Lines close by. Miles of wilderness trails surround the cabin. Fish, Hike, Bike, Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe right from your door!

After a day of exploring the abundance of activities nearby, come home to the comfort of your cozy mountain cabin. Stoke up a crackling fire in the big stone fireplace, a feature you're sure to enjoy year round at this altitude! Later, the warmth of your log featherbed, made up with cozy flannel linens awaits. Let the sounds of the babbling creek just outside your window lull you into a deep and restful slumber. Wake up refreshed and enjoy your morning coffee creekside while catching a glimpse of the many species of birds and wildlife who make this beautiful setting home. Cross the wooden footbridge to the secluded island and read or nap from the hammock while listening to the waterfall. Enjoy a glass of wine from one of the many creekside seating areas while watching an incredible red sky sunset reflecting from the canyon wall. Now isn't this what a true Colorado cabin vacation is all about?

Mary is a great host and the cabin was perfectly set in a beautiful canyon not too far from civilization. I will return!

Better than anticipated.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is well maintained and very nicely decorated. The location was perfect (apx 8 miles from town). Very peaceful setting, rushing creek in front, hammock, sauna, lots of hummingbirds. Could not ask for more. The owner was inviting and helpful. Would recommend staying here to anyone looking to disconnect from the rush of everyday life.

A drag

  • 2 of 5

Setting was great but owner seems completely over it and lives on the property. Prior to booking she stated there was wifi and cell service "if you step outside" and in reality its an 11 minute drive to Idaho Springs. She disclosed after check in "rules sheet" that no unregistered guests were allowed on premises without prior consent, so Sat morning we asked if we could have 2 (very adult both Docs who live in Boulder) stop by for a quick tour of our cabin. She refused. She also said she didn't whack the weeks by river to due rain...but it was sunny the 3 days we were there and there was no weed whacking going on. Just left overgrown river banks that could have otherwise been a nice sitting area. I'm introverted and don't need a lot of attention when I travel, but this owner was just restrictive and unpleasant, at best.

Owner's Response: Susan P, we are very surprised to read this considering you wrote in our guest book "Perfect spot for R&R! Crisp Colorado mornings w/sound of rushing waters outside the bedroom window and just steps away from the cabin screen door - meditative and restorative ~ 'nature's medicine' for sure!!! Thanks Mary, cabin a delight in every way!" Dr. Jody and Susan P. Atlanta GA. Your partner also told me she hoped to return on a future trip! Let me address the issues that were raised: You knew prior to your stay you might have to step outside the cabin for cell service. As a matter of fact, you checked for service when you first arrived and had cell service in the cabin! You did not have to drive 11 minutes to town for cell service! You were also told PRIOR to your stay that WiFi service was spotty and if you needed better service there were several spots in Idaho Springs where you would have a better connection. Our property is also advertised as a place to unplug, unwind and get away from technology, which is why most people stay with us. We are very sorry you took issue with having our rules and policies posted in your cabin. For future reference, almost all property owners post their policies and guest rules. And no, you did not "ask permission" to have unregistered guests on the property , rather you informed me you would be "having friends over for an hour or so" just prior to their arrival. Because you were sharing the property with other guests, we felt it would be an imposition on their right to the peaceful enjoyment of the premises to have strangers milling about. You were politely asked to meet your friends off site for this reason. We also see no reason for guests to be conducting public "tours" of our property. Out of consideration for our guests, we do property maintenance such as weed whacking when the property is unoccupied. It also rained ever afternoon of your stay. It's unfortunate that you found one week's worth of natural vegetation growth by the river so unpleasant that it ruined your stay. As a very high maintenance guest you in fact did need a lot of attention beginning from your initial inquiry to having to be told more than once where not to park your car. I believe anyone reading your review will see this. It's disappointing that because you were unable to make up your own rules, you felt the need to leave a negative review.

Relaxation at its finest!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin and surrounding area was everything we had hoped for and more! I thought I would die without cell/internet/tv, but I actually dreaded going into town and my phone beeping with messages. If I had not left children back at home, I may not have turned it on at all. The cabin is beautiful, the amenities are perfect, sitting out by the creek, or laying in the hammock. I recommend it to anyone who just needs to get away from it all. It was a perfect location, so many things to do within a few short miles.

Colorado's Best Kept Secret

  • 5 of 5

We found these cabins on the internet and the pictures don't even begin to show how beautiful and cozy these cabins are. We rented both cabins for for our family of 6 to surprise dad for Father's Day - it couldn't have been more perfect. Between fishing, campfires, and just relaxing by the river, Dad was in heaven! This trip really brought us closer as a family. The cabin itself was beyond our expectations, clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed to make the most of the time we had together. The views and sounds of the water from the cabins are phenomenal! We left renewed and refreshed and wishing we had more time in this wonderful place. We are already planning our next reunion at Call of the Canyon Cabins!
