The Blue & White House was built sometime in the late 1800s. It was a sailor's lowly house, just like most cave houses. Sometime in the 1970s it was bought by the owners' maternal grandfather.
Antonis Dakoronias, born in Santorini in 1918, was a seaman himself. He spent 37 years at the sea, most of them as a captain, commanding commercial vessels around the world, before nestling again in Oia. He became president of Oia's local council and he founded the Maritime Museum of Oia (a must-see place). His daughter inherited the Blue & White House in the 1990s.
The owner: I first set foot in Santorini in 1976 and have revisited most years since then. But since the mid-90s, this house has been my exclusive accommodation point in Santorini. Practically every summer I return to this house and pay homage to this most beautiful village in this most sensational island. In 2000 I performed a full restoration of the house to its current excellent state. I am proud of my ancestral links to Oia and a privileged owner of this classic, cliff-hanging cave house. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have been enjoying it for almost 20 years.
