Gull Chain Beach House on Perfect Sand Beach

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Round Lake is known for being the gem of the Gull chain. Large enough to accomadate all but the largest boats, but yet small enough to avoid the rough water of larger lakes. Round interconnects with Gull Lake allowing you to boat to many of the fine restaurants on the chain with mooring facilities. Round Lake is known for its water clarity, hard sand bottom and few weeds. Truly a premier water recreation lake.

Just 40 feet from the water's edge, the beach house boasts expansive views whether from the balcony, living room, kitchen or loft. Imagine yourself relaxing on the balcony while watching the sun setting across the water.

The swimming beach is 25 feet deep and nearly 75 feet wide. Swim raft, Water slide, canoe, paddle boat, swim tubes, life jackets, and beach toys are all included.

The beach house was totally re-constructed for the 2011 season. Being new from the foundation up, you'd expect all the usual amenities but this vacation property is loaded with extras. Such as heated floors, granite counter tops, hickory cabinets and trim, and a 60 inch HD home theatre system with blu-ray, DirecTV Satellite DVR, and access to the home server music library via satellite receiver and other components.

Log furniture is featured throughout the beach house. The livng room includes a queen sleeper sofa that is actually comfortable to sit on! The loft features a deluxe queen size bed that offers a spectacular view to awake to, through two huge trapezoid windows.

Unlike many beach houses, the bathroom is not a compromise on fixtures or size. It features a full sized combination bath-shower bay and a 48 inch vanity, again, topped in granite.

The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils, spices, sugar, flour and all those things that are just to easy to forget. The balcony features a private natural gas grille (no LP tanks to go empty).

About The Owner

A warm hello from Kurt and Tami! We consider ourselves truly blessed by God's gifts to us and that we can share them.

Both of us were born & raised in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Kurt operates a communications business and Tami is a school administrator.

Part of Kurt's upbringing was in the building trades. Being blessed with the abilty to learn and implement skills, Kurt designed and built much of the beach house himself. Being a bit of a perfectionist and a gadget lover, the attention to detail is obvious and the cottage has many, many extra features.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1997

Why The Owner chose Central

Kurt's grandparents owned property on Round Lake when he was a boy, in the '60s. Since his boyhood, it was always his dream to own a Round Lake property.

What makes this cottage unique

A summer morning swim to the raft in water that is mirror smooth under a bright blue sky is simply awe inspiring. An evening pontoon boat ride for dinner at the Quarter Deck is a picture perfect close to a wonderful day on the lake.

My Boyfriend and I stayed on 6/4 for four days. Upon arrival we met Kurt who was very nice and willing to help with anything needed. The Beach house was beautiful and stocked full of anything you needed. The lake was calm and crystal clear. Great for swimming and would be great for kids its very shallow and doesn't get deep for a long way out. We used the paddle boat that also had a motor on it for us lazy people. :-) We would recommend this and is a 5 star!!

Nice stay; beware credit card contract

  • 3 of 5

This was our second time staying at property 356178 and working with this particular property owner. Our first experience (in 2011) went well, so we decided to return this year with no hesitation. We had a nice stay, enjoyed the home and the beach. The location is fantastic!

What was different this year is that the owner had an extremely extensive contract written up that he required us to sign, as well as a credit card authorization for damages. The contract was incredibly lengthy and detailed, leading me to believe he has had troublesome renters since our last stay. My husband and I, with our 1-year old daughter, had an enjoyable stay and interacted with the owners multiple times during our stay. We made it a point to treat the property with respect at all times, as we do our own. Upon returning home, I received an email from the owner alerting me to damages he claimed took place during our stay and that he would be exploring some repair cost estimates and likely pushing a charge through to our credit card in the future. Within a day of that email, the owner charged my credit card over $350 for said damages prior to discussing or agreeing upon the damages themselves, no less the repair estimates.

We love this location and the property is nice, but we caution others before signing a contract with your credit card number, because it will be charged at the owner's will! Or, learn from us and demand a walkthrough upon arrival and departure.

Owner's Response: As with most vacation rental property owners, we do have a rental agreement to not only protect us, but our guests. It is not “incredibly lengthy and detailed”, but five pages long and not small print, but a font pitch as large as what you are reading here (or larger) and double spaced paragraphs. It is only good business to put in writing what is expected of each party. While it has undergone some minor revisions over the years, it is the same agreement this guest executed during their first stay. In this instance, the guest damaged two pieces of furniture. We obtained a written repair estimate from the local shop that had originally custom built the furniture and included it with the notification. Yes, we do require a credit card authorization in lieu of a cash damage deposit. This is a common practice in this day. It is why you can’t rent a car or reserve most hotel rooms without one. We once encountered a perspective guest who declined to rent our vacation property as a result of this. They were not agreeable to exposing themselves to such a credit card liability. Our response was it was an issue of mutual trust. Our exposure risk is the replacement cost of our vacation home and the contents thereof. This perspective guest’s limit was the available credit on their card. I queried who had the greatest risk exposure? If they were not agreeable to trusting us with the available credit on their card, we are not agreeable trusting them with our vacation home and it’s contents. We are entering our fifth year offering vacation rental properties (2). In that period of time, this is the third instance where we’ve had to collect damages from a guest’s credit card. In turn, each time we received a poor review as a result. We’ve given thought to making the damage insurance offered by VRBO as mandatory, but this would be unnecessary cost burden upon the vast majority of our guests. Of course, this insurance was and is available directly from VRBO for a guest to purchase as well as other coverages.

Wonderful Anniversary Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to have a nice weekend getaway to spend our wedding anniversary. We couldn't have spent our time at a more wonderful location! The owner was very helpful and the beach house was fully stocked. Our weekend was a little cold and windy but that didn't stop us from enjoying the beautiful lake views from the large loft windows :) We will definitely be staying again!

I couldn't have picked a better spot for a girl's getaway. Plenty of room for the 3 of us. Sleep sofa was comfortable too. Close to dining and shopping and yet very quiet location with great views. Owner was helpful but did not intrude. I would love to stay again.

Honeymoon On The Lake

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in this little cabin. Its size was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was perfect for cooking (but bring your own condiments and spices). We felt right at home and the beach was beautiful. Would rent this cabin again for sure.
