We completely renovated this Victorian Cottage on Watchic Lake, Standish, Maine, to preserve the cottage experience while still enjoying modern conveniences. We provide all the amentities, so you don't have to worry about bringing them.

Watchic Lake is a very clean, spring fed lake, with plenty of wildlife to enjoy. Enjoy kayaking and canoeing, loon watching, eating a traditional Maine lobster feed, or just reading a book in the hammock by the Lake. The cottage is in a great location, and is the last house on a private road.

http://www.watchiclake.org/

Less than a half hours drive you can visit the Old Port on Portland’s waterfront for great shopping, music, theaters and some of the best restaurants in all of Maine. You can even catch a movie at a nearby drive in theater. There is easy access to the Ocean (Old Orchard Beach, Funtown, Splashtown), the White Mountains of New Hampshire, great shopping areas, and LL Bean in Freeport. Plan to shop at nearby farms for fresh vegetables and fruit. Take the family to pick fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and apples at several farms in the area. We are also only 10 miles from St. Josephs College. 32 Miles from Shawnee Peak Ski

Enjoy the peaceful seclusion of this relaxing and clean year round cottage, 40 feet from the waters edge, with local supermarkets, restaurants, and lots of fun shopping at antique shops, art and craft galleries, clothing and gift shops. All within 10 minutes of the lake. Golf driving Range within walking distance.

Join us for my favorite time of year, Fall Foliage Season. A great time to attend the many Apple festivals, Fryeburg and Cumberland Fairs, and other harvest celebrations while surrounded by the magical Maine foliage colors. Maine is the most heavily forested state in our nation. Maine's fantastic fall foliage is unique because of the wide variety of species, totaling over 50 native types.

The cottage features a large full kitchen with open dining area. There is “pass through” window access to adjacent custom designed bar area that overlooks the lake. The living room is large with a gas fireplace, and there is a sitting room which overlooks the lake that can also serve as a fourth bedroom. This cottage has lots of large windows with great views of the lake.

OUTSIDE FEATURES:

Both sun and shade areas. Large private lawn area, Parking area for 4 cars, dock, Deck, Gas Grill, Picnic table, 4 Adirondack chairs, Chaise Lounge chairs, Life preservers, canoe, 2 kayaks, fire pit , and horse shoes.

BEACH AREA:

100 feet of private waterfront including a 20 foot dock. Rocky beach out to sand bottom– 3 stairs to water— retaining wall—clear water-(there is no marshy, grassy, slimy stuff)—gradual drop-off. There is a large public sand beach on the other side of the lake, accessible by boat or car.

About Patty Taylor

After Eric worked as an Engineer for 25 years and Patty worked as a Systems Analyst/Manager for 29 years, they decided to change career paths and started their own construction company.

While in the process of searching for a property to renovate we came across this

cottage on Watchic Lake.  The beautiful views, cleanliness of the Lake, peaceful surroundings, 100 feet of Lake frontage, and the close proximity to everything, was

too much to resist.  We purchased the cottage with a plan to renovate it and sell it for profit.  In the process of renovating we fell in love with magic of the place and decided to keep it.

Now we offer it to others so they may enjoy the Lake cottage experience, and have the opportunity to wind down from such busy lives.

We would love to have you visit!

Patty & Eric

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our favorite adventures: Kayaking with my mom and my daughter. Jumping in the lake fully clothed with my dad like he used to do 30 years ago on the first day of vacation. Campfires and having the teenagers teach me line dancing.

I am so grateful to have had this time with my parents and my daughter. This place is heaven for us.

Thanks for everything!

Wow!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home from this perfect cottage. All we can say is WOW! This well-equipped home had anything and everything we could possibly want. From kayaks to clean linens and slipcovers to parchment paper in the kitchen drawer! Even found

a few night lights to put around so we wouldn't trip over anything in the dark! Binoculars to watch the loon and her babies swimming on the lake were hanging there for our use. Patty and Eric provide everything! We have 3 pre-teen/teen children and they were totally entertained with swimming, kayaking around, playing board games and taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. We are so glad we found you....it was a little piece of heaven :-). Thank you!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the praise! We like to make your stay as carefree as possible, and want guests to feel relaxed as soon as you step over the threshold. It's funny how the young adults arrive and immediately start using their cellphones, Ipads, and computers. Within a couple of days the electronics are left behind and everyone is out sharing the fresh air, clean water, sunsets, and observing wildlife together. It has been a pleasure to have you visit. Please come again!

Heaven On Earth

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been vacationing on Watchic Lake for over 50 years. We have stayed at 5 different cabins/camps during that time and have loved them all. This year we began a new tradition at Patty and Eric's beautiful cottage on our favorite lake. It is impeccably equipped and appointed with all the amenities anyone could want, while still being charming and quaint. Our children and grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed the boat, canoe, kayaks and floats which were provided. The best feature came from nature in the form of spectacular sunsets, star gazing and loon watching. Leaving was difficult, but we are looking forward to next year's two weeks in paradise. Thank you Patty and Eric for sharing your treasure, which far exceeded all our expectations.

Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been happier with our time spent here. Every amenity you could think of both inside and outside the house, a gorgeous place tucked right against the water gives you the feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere while still being such a quick 25 minute ride from Portland. This beautiful place had everything we need to keep coming back each and every year. Our only regret was not being able to finish that puzzle. Hopefully the next guests finished it off!

Love it!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this for my daughters Graduation from St. Joe's College....and we were very happy with the house. Everything that we needed was there...and even more. The house was very nice and the area was quiet and peaceful. I loved sitting at the beautiful bar just looking out the window at the water.....while my husband loved watching the bruins in the other room! We would absolutely consider renting this house again. Patty and Eric have thought of everything to make this a wonderful rental.

In Heaven for a week!

  • 5 of 5

My oh my where to begin!

First of all, Patty & Eric are wonderful owners who have remodeled this little piece of Heaven to perfection! The pictures do not do justice. We have been VRBO renters for about 6 years. Having rented great places throughout Maine & FL. We have never had any complaints (kudos to VRBO).

THIS has got to be our utmost favorite! The location was perfect, The cottage is perfect, tastefully decorated AND immaculate! Everything we needed; linens, towels, pots/pans dishes, grill, beach chairs etc was there. Use of the 2 kayaks were an added bonus, some of the best sunsets were on the middle of the lake. We were close enough to home (25 minutes) but yet a million miles away. Even the kids (17-23) enjoyed our week, never did we hear "Can I go home?" Our 17 y.o. even said he could get use to this.

Our week there was not nearly enough. We truly left with very heavy hearts wishing the week hadn't flown by.

Patty & Eric, we can't thank you nearly enough for listing your perfect victorian cottage on VRBO. Thank you for sharing! We look forward to spending another week in 2013!!!!
