About Cheryl C Miller

I moved to the Telluride Region in 1987 and have never looked back. Bud and I got married on a beautiful ranch under Mount Willson, raised 3 children out on the mesas and now enjoy our ranch on Iron Springs Mesa.

Cheryl C Miller purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Cheryl C Miller chose Placerville

The Lovenest, on Specie Mesa, was built in 1999 by my dad and his wife as a personal getaway from their hectic life. We have found the cottage to be beautifully designed for just this purpose.

What makes this cottage unique

It is beautifully located to take full advantage of the mountain views. Sitting on 40 acres you never have to see another person while it is only minutes away from the world class resort of Telluride.

This cabin was amazing! The views were beautiful and we couldn't have had a better place to spend our honeymoon.

Breath-taking views!

  • 4 of 5

The house sits on the edge of a 500’ cliff, looking down into a canyon, and distance views of snow capped Rocky Mountain peaks. My only disappointment was that three of the large windows have condensation between the panes and this does distract one’s viewing experience.

Remote, pleasantly quiet location featuring breath-taking views!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Cheryl,

Thank You for allowing us the pleasure of experiencing "The Lovenest"!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, the great views, and the abundant wildlife!

We have visited Telluride many times over the years and simply love this area. It was so nice to be close to town(20 miles)to visit and dine yet removed from the "ongoing" festival scene and crowds. We enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, and excellent fly-fishing very close to your property. The weather could not have been better!

A highlight we will remember forever is on day two of our stay a hummingbird flew in through one of the open doors and spent the entire day hovering in the northeast corner window unable to escape. When we returned later it was very tired and happy to just sit on the window ledge and watch us. As dark approach I turned on a floor lamp and set it in the doorway by the open door hoping to lure it out. As it turns out it was to weak to fly out and ended up on the floor in the kitchen. Figuring it was a lost cause, I gently picked it up and set it outside on the ground expecting to find it dead the next morning. As it turns out it recovered, flew off, and returned a day later(outside), back to normal! Hardy little guy!

Your home is beautiful and the perfect spot for a couple to retreat to! We can't wait to visit again!

Thank You!

Amazing Get-Away!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Love Nest. The views were absolutely spectacular, and the house had everything we needed to be comfortable. Even the queen bed was pretty good - in spite of us being used to a king! I loved the large shower with views of the mountain, and the large jet tub on the main floor!

This place is for you if:

* You want to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty of nature. The mountain views are incredible. Loads of privacy - you probably won't see anyone else when you're at the house.

* You don't have a problem with heights - the house is nestled on top of a mountain/foothill so you are at about 9000 feet elevation and there is a huge drop off at the front of the house. It's awesome to see - but also gave my hubby the "heeby jeebies" for a minute. =)

* You are a morning person. There are lots of windows to enjoy the view and no shades. So, we enjoyed incredibly starry nights and got to see the sunrise every morning. (Just a quick peak at the sunrise and then we'd go back to sleep, but the sun wouldn't let us sleep later than 9 am.)

This place is not for you if:

* You want to be in the middle of all the action - it's about 30-45 min to Telluride. 15 min of that is spent on the 6 mile gravel road to the top of the mountain. It was no big deal to get into town, but we did pick up dinner and breakfast each day so we wouldn't have to drive the gravel road at night. If you want to walk 5 minutes into town for a meal or shopping - this isn't the place for you.

We loved it - it was just what the doctor ordered! Peace, quiet, amazing incredible scenery. AND we saw two baby bears on our last day. Awesome!!

P.S. - Thanks especially to our hostess for the elevation sickness pills. Coming from MN, the elevation sickness really hit us hard. Those pills were a Godsend! Thank you!!

Beautiful, relaxing, snowy and ICY!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I chose Telluride, Colorado as our honeymoon destination. Cheryl Miller's Lovenest is a beautiful, homey, well-appointed vacation home/cabin perched on the top of a mesa (the home is built right on the edge of a steep, STEEP hill) and surrounded by forest. The views are panoramic and private... you will not see a single home or light anywhere.

We were married in Laguna Beach, CA on New Year's Day 2017, and were excited to get started with the honeymoon. Skiing in Telluride (15 miles away- the Lovenest is actually isolated in Placerville, a "town" with a tiny store and post office), shopping, restaurants, etc. were high on the list. Now, to get to the Lovenest requires a drive up a six mile gravel county road. In January, it was covered in snow and, as we found out, ice. Our Ford SUV with traction control and chains (but was not 4x4 or AWD) could not make it up the road. Thus began a rather unfortunate series of events that were, to be clear, ALL weather-related. When we arrived at the road to make the final trek up to the house, our SUV couldn't make it. We thought we were sunk, but when we called Cheryl, she told us she would be there to help us... at 8 o'clock at night! Cheryl and her son-in-law arrived with two 4x4 SUVs and, after we parked the rental in a small lot, she drove us up to the Lovenest. But her generosity did not stop there... Cheryl proceeded to loan us her own AWD SUV! My wife and I were stunned by such a gesture. This unquestioned act of trust and generosity from Cheryl and her son-in-law nearly brought us to tears.

We were able to get to Telluride, but then the 6 mile road up the mesa became icy and unpassable, and we eventually had to cut our trip short. We never skied, we never made it up to the Ski Village (which is above Telluride, not IN Telluride). Cheryl apologized when we left early, refunded the days we didn't use, and offered us a free day if we returned for the Telluride Film Fest, which we are hoping to do. Again, she was a sweet and generous host.

That said, here is some potentially helpful info for future visitors to the Lovenest:

1. Clarks Grocer in Telluride is extensive and gourmet, but pricy

2. Clarks Grocer in Norwood is extensive and cheaper

3. We brought our own blu ray DVD player

4. The wood burning stove was GREAT (plenty of wood was provided)

5. ...as was the jacuzzi tub

6. The loft / bed was magical

7. It was QUIET and ISOLATED... so be prepared!

We will definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the thoughtful review and kind words. I just wanted to note that the weather was highly unusual. In the thirty years I have lived here I have never seen freezing rain like this in January. Even the locals with all the right equipment were challenged. It was an unfortunate sequence of events and I hope they have a less adventurous stay next time. It should be noted that though this week was unusual winter is always more of a challenge in the Rockies.
