Cozy Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
Our gated property includes 40 acres of undeveloped natural and wild beauty. There is a lot of history surrounding this property that we are proud to continue and share with our guests. The gardens and landscaping are spectacular and a perfect backdrop to our quaint rental cottage and endless-like pool. We are surrounded by one of Calistoga’s amazing vineyards, Jericho Canyon. It is quiet and remote – while being within 3 ½ miles of the center of downtown: a perfect balance.
Calistoga's small town ambiance, coupled with sophisticated dining, spa adventures and shopping, make it a favorite of many wine country visitors. Underground thermal features give rise to natural hot springs. Jericho Ridge is approximately 3 miles from Chateau Montelena – the vineyard that inspired the birth of Napa Valley – as depicted in the movie “Bottle Shock.”
We're proud that Calistoga was named one of the United States' Top Ten destinations for relaxation and spa 2010 TRAVELERS CHOICE DESTINATIONS AWARDS.
Calistoga is now an official Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area). Prompting widespread jubilation, Calistoga was designated its own unique grape growing region in December 2009, after a six year effort by Bo Barrett of Chateau Montelena Winery and Congressman Mike Thompson. This will not only 'concrete Calistoga's place in the world of wine,' as Rex Stults, Industry Relations Director for Napa Valley Vintners, puts it, but also gives consumers confidence that when they buy wines saying Calistoga on the label, the product contains 85% grapes grown in this particular region.
Find yourself here, and you’ll find yourself coming back. (And we'll always be glad to see you!)

About Jacque and Patrick
We live in Tilghman Island, Maryland but travel to Calistoga as often as possible. We were visiting dear friends in Calistoga during Thanksgiving, 2010 when we fell in love with the Jericho Canyon and knew we wanted to live there one day. When our property came onto the market a week later, it was destiny. Unfortunately, our jobs keep us in the Washington DC area - for now. In the meantime, we are happy and excited to share our future Paradise with you. Please enjoy it as we wish we could! Jacque and Patrick

Why Jacque and Patrick chose Calistoga
Calistoga is an easy trip in from either Oakland or San Francisco airport. It is in the north end of the valley across the ridge from Santa Rosa (15 miles) therefore you can avoid the Napa Valley traffic until you are ready for great wine tasting and the beautiful Napa experience. We do alot of cycling through the valley and love the Silverado Trail. Our cottage has large windows throughout and ceiling fans in every room - so we generally leave everything open and live as close to nature as possible. The weather is warm in the day and cool in the evening, most of the year. After a lovely day full of wine tasting, spa experiences, hiking or cycling and outstanding meals, we love to either relax at our retreat with a glass of wine and watch the colors of the sunset on the Palisades or go dancing at the Calistoga Inn.
What makes this House unique
Our property is 3 1/2 miles from downtown Calistoga but is quite remote in the hills of Jericho Canyon. The landscaping was developed by the previous owners who are extraordinary botanical gardeners - and the gardens are exceptional. The hiking trails on our property seem to go forever - of course there is lots of wildlife in the hills so you need to be cautious. Our pool is a cool way to end the day and the view from the pool deck and house is incredible. Our small vineyard is in the development phase but adds a fun dimension to the view. Our home is perfect for those who love the outdoors - and all that nature can provide. Please note that the Valley is unique in that it can be extremely hot during the day and even cold at night. It is usually dry but there are unexpected rainy times. Please be ready to experience incredible nature - at its best.

Seriously Breathtaking Calistoga Retreat
We really loved staying at Jericho Ridge. The house is clean (very important), cozy, and comfortable, the views are breathtaking, and so many beautiful flowers and plants. Let me tell ya - the location is pretty perfect. This place is down the street from Chateau Montelena (watch Bottleshock and you'll understand) and about 2 or 3 miles from Silverado Trail which is the main loop that takes you to every winery in the Napa Valley, as well as St. Helena and Yountville. And it's only a 5 min drive to the town of Calistoga which is way more charming than downtown Napa. There's a nice grocery store, spas, restaurants, ice cream, and shopping all close by. You could even walk or bike ride if you really want some exercise (the hill is a killer though!).
Trust me - the first time you drive up to the house is a bit of an adventure but coming back down is a breeze and you get used to it. For the views it's definitely worth it. We especially enjoyed waking up and taking in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountains, 2 acres of grapevines, and incredible biodiversity of plants, flowers, cacti and succulents. They even have a pool to relax in after a long day of wine tasting. Overall, we had an amazing time staying at Jericho Ridge and will definitely be staying there again!
Less Than We'd Hoped For...
This is one of only two times (out of ~50 rentals) I've felt compelled to write a negative VRBO review. We were pretty disappointed with this house. It feels like a trailer or an RV, albeit located up a nice, isolated canyon outside of Calistoga. Everything is functional but it doesn't feel like a house, it feels like a converted trailer inside. There's a makeshift semi-portable heating/cooling system that doesn't work very well with large hoses that run between the walls and machines that sit on the floor. There really aren't any views from inside the house, you have to be away from the house to see anything. The pool belongs to a different house so the photos and description are somewhat misleading. It wasn't quiet when we stayed there because there was a work crew clearing brush on the owner's land nearby...at one point they were working about 20 feet from us making a huge amount of noise, it was like an SNL skit because we were trying to put our baby down for a nap. And I wouldn't stay here with small children. There's a steep drop off with no rail in front of the house and the heating equipment (different from the aforementioned cooling equipment) gets hot and has nothing to keep small hands from touching it.
We are so sad about this rental couple. It is super rare that we are on the property when we have renters (3-4 times/year). Since we were here, we set up the cottage, put in fresh flowers from the amazing gardens and set up all of the outdoor seating spaces. The mother of the child (who was truly miserable) never even acknowledged us and never said hello when we came to greet them. I've never seen a more rude person. They were obviously fighting all weekend and the child cried the entire time. I understand that this could lead so serious stress and not such a great weekend. They clearly did not understand the radiator heating. It is a cozy oil heater which is really nice and keeps the house warm if needed. The A/C units are the new mobile units that are completely contained (no hoses run between the walls). It was a great weather weekend - about 65 degrees so I'm not sure which units they tried to use but they obviously caused some type of confusion that I've never seen or heard of.
Our cottage is completely new and renovated with hardwood cherry floors, brand new appliances, granite counter tops and cherry cabinets in the kitchens. There are two outdoor sitting areas on huge terraces and a Weber grill with an outdoor dining set. There is no "drop off" that I know of. The beds are tempurpedic and amazingly comfortable. The furniture is hardwood and the carpets are oriental upscale carpets. Every other guest that has ever stayed in our cottage has found it clean, comfortable, fully stocked for cooking and living. The views from every window (without exception) are some of the best in the Valley.
Again - I really pity a couple who is so miserable that they could not enjoy our Paradise or even be cordial to the owners. We try so hard to make sure that every guest has an amazing visit and 99% of the time they do.
AMAZING! STOP LOOKING and stay HERE!
I could write a book on how much my husband and I enjoyed this place!!!!! We arrived on a Wednesday late afternoon and left Sunday so relaxed and happy. It's out in the most beautiful wine country. It's private. It's quiet. We loved the place we stayed. Tons of windows and lights and any window you looked out amazing views! Amazing! And great sitting areas outside! So many plants and flowers -- truly amazing. We loved and enjoyed the pool overlooking the valley and mountains and vineyard every day!
They were super helpful with directions, recommendations, places to go and see and do. We are already talking about our next visits there, because this won't be our last.
And the price was perfect for what you got. Terrific kitchen. Everything is really first class. I love they store the cushions for the furniture so they don't get dusty when not being used. We also loved the amazing little path down to the pool. Was just terrific!
We stay at a lot of VRBO's and this was our favorite we think!
Book this place!!!
Nice but too disconnected
The view and inside the house is very nice and very well kept; however, the outside landscaping and furniture could use some improvement. Also, if you are not wanting to be totally disconnected, this place is not for you as it does not have basic cable or wifi. They do provide a TV with some DVDs for entertainment and music CDs. We did not use the pool as we were not sure how to get to it as it is not right outside the house as it appears in the picture. It is in another area where a new house is being built. It would have been helpful to have a book in the house with instructions and details. We have gotten this at other homes we have rented from VRBO. The owners were very responsive to our questions. Also, if you pay via paypal, the owners charge the fee back to you when they return the deposit which they did not tell me upfront.
We spend quite of bit of time discussing the property with our guests prior to arrival. Most guests stay for a week or longer. As highlighted on our website, there is Verizon available if you need internet and have a hot spot but our location is not suitable for satellite and there is no cable option. We do provide games, movies, cards and music for entertainment but the property is truly magical without distraction. The gardens were designed by professional botanical gardeners and are maintained weekly by a gardener on site. Due to the California drought, we maintain native drought-tolerant plants and trees. We find that the outdoors at our home is really spectacular (still takes my breath away) so we have provided many areas for outdoor enjoyment. It is generally very sunny at our place so our two outdoor furniture sets (both < a year old - one in the front of the cottage and one in the back) do show signs of sun wear but they are very comfortable and clean. There is also a outdoor dining table (with seat cushions) and Weber Gold propane grill. The pool is down a solar-lighted path overlooking a vineyard - and it is attached to the main home on the property which is under renovation and unoccupied. We only charge a paypal fee for those guests who submit payments in a way that charges a fee. We provide clear instructions about how to make payments to avoid the fee but if a fee is charged then we do pass it on. We always accept checks via snail mail and do not require use of paypal by anyone. It makes us sad that one of our guests did not appreciate the use of our home (we actually do live there as much as possible), but fortunately 95% of our guests find it to be as wonderful as we do.
Beautiful, Quiet, Excellent Location
We stayed at Jericho Ridge for just 2 nights, which was an exception to the minimum. The place was in a quiet location with an unbelievable view just a few miles for the town of Calistoga. We had a lovely time visiting the vineyards and wineries by day and cooking up a delicious dinner at night. We would definitely come back-for longer next time!
We arrived late and it was black as night, dimly lit, (wouldn't recommend doing this for the first time in). When we woke up in the morning and the views we were greeted with the sunrise I couldn't even imagine. It is truly a retreat. My camera couldn't capture what I was seeing. We did have one night we cooked and enjoyed the land, but wished we had done it more. We like to visit wine country every few years, this was the first time we rented home, and will do it again in a heart beat. This place is in a peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of town, but not too far away, a quick drive to Calistoga. There were four of us and we liked to hang out and talk after dinner. You will not disturb any immediate neighbors here.
