Located on a beautiful, white sand beach, Villa Leona is an unique property on beautiful 'Soliman Bay ' . It is 10mins from Tulum, and a million miles away from your day-to-day stresses and worries - the perfect place to totally unwind. This charming, ecological home has been tastefully set-back on the lot, leaving the original trees and palms that line a sandy path down to the spot most guests spend as much of their time as possible - under a palapa equipped with hammocks and lounge chairs, . Here the tropical breezes will cool your skin as you gaze out over the amazing hues of blues that make up Bahia Soliman (Soliman Bay)... truly one of the last idyllic beaches on the Riviera Maya. You will see a wide variety of birds such as brown pelicans, frigate birds, snowy egrets and blue heron. The song of the sea breeze making the plan fronds sway will be the music that lulls you during an afternoon siesta. The house has a Master bedroom downstairs and a charming loft on the second floor with a bridge and a 2nd smaller outside terrace. The owner of this house spends a lot of time in Africa, and the house has the charm, influence and warmth of both countries. From palapa roof (natural thatch) to African photo's , it is a one of a kind. The staff is not only one of the best on the bay, but the husband is also a chef!!! He will be happy to prepare both local and international dishes for you if you wish. There are two bathrooms, a half bath upstairs and a full downstairs, a kitchen, living room/dining room and of course another outdoor eating area. There is also an outdoor barbecue area. The bay out in front is both perfect for swimming, but also one of the best and calmest for snorkeling. This is a wonderful spot for novices and expert snorkelers. Small coral heads act as shelter for a myriad of fish life and the reef that spans the entrance to the Bay ensures calm waters most days. Bring an underwater camera to capture shots of graceful rays, colorful schools of blue tang and sergeant majors and during the summer months sea turtles. Night time visits to the beach will be rewarded with spectacular star-gazing as a results of minimum light. As you eyes become accustomed to the low-light, you will see the wonder of the Milky Way so close you will feel you can reach up and touch it. There are 2 kayaks for your enjoyment as well as a convenient outside shower.
Stay at this house once and you will be planning your return before you even leave.

About Diane Zanuzoski
Originally from Wisconsin, I moved to this area in 1986 and would not want to live anywhere else, I just love it here. I built this house for me and my family and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. I selected this spot before any development and I think I picked the BEST spot on this gorgeous bay, with the best and easiest access to the water and the best views. I have travelled extensively so understand what travelers look for in a vacation home... This house reflects my two passions: Mexico and Africa and there is a strong African theme in the decor of my Mexican beach house.
Diane Zanuzoski purchased this House in 2000
Why Diane Zanuzoski chose Tulum
I was one of the first people to buy a lot on this Bay and I chose what is arguably the BEST spot as my house has one of the best sandy beaches with EASY, and SANDY access into the water. I built this home to enjoy with family and friends having fallen in love with the the natural beauty of Soliman Bay which remains to this day one of the most unspoiled spots on the entire Riviera Maya. If you have ever visited the area you will understand that one of the biggest attractions is the people and I am blessed to have a wonderful couple live on the property as caretakers and they will also take great care of you during your stay
What makes this House unique
Perhaps the best part of the beach on Soliman Bay with easy, sandy access into the water. Imagine reading a great book while swinging gently in a hammock under a Palapa on a picture postcard white sand beach in front of the ever changing turquoise-blue waters of the Caribbean - like a scene from the movie Blue Lagoon! This is Soliman Bay. Peaceful, gentle, quiet, romantic, relaxing, exclusive, gorgeous, welcoming Soliman Bay. Where each day will bring back the simple pleasures of a beach front vacation, like beach combing, swimming, snorkeling, star-gazing or just relaxing.

Our Little Slice of Paradise
From the moment we found this listing on VRBO we knew that this was the place for us! We were intrigued by the title of the listing and opened it up to find everything that we were looking for. My two sons, daughter-in-law and I vacationed for one week on Soliman Bay, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Villa Leona. Jerry met us upon our arrival and made sure to check on us daily, yet he didn't hover. His wife and daughter were wonderful about coming in and cleaning the bungalow every day, which was so nice. We had Jerry prepare two evening meals for us and they were delicious and reasonably priced ($50 for a dinner for 4 that included an appetizer, main dish and dessert). The location was fantastic and we spent a lot of time on the beach reading or in the water. We recommend bringing water shoes for the water, even though there are spots that have been cleared of rocks. We used the kayaks that were available and we snorkeled out among the reef (it was a hefty swim out there so we took the kayak the second time and tied onto the buoy). We took advantage of the beach chairs at night and enjoyed the stars, took trips into Tulum to visit the ruins and experience the cenotes (we recommend the Gran Cenote, which is 3 kilometers outside of Tulum). Tulum also has a large shopping center which had wonderful selections of fresh fruit and vegetables. We had a fantastic time at Villa Leona and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful place away from the crowd. Thanks, Diane!
Thanks so much for your lovely review of "Villa Leona". I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and really got to enjoy the area a bit.
Jerry is a very good chef and I'm also glad you had him cook for you a couple of nights. I often do as well.
I hope you and your family can return soon, you were great guests and we would be happy to have you at any time!
All my best,
Our family of four had a fantastic stay. The cottage, nestled in the palm trees, is really cosy and well-appointed with everything one might need. The upstairs, with its ladder and bridge and thatched roof, feels like a tree house. Jerry and his family were wonderful, but we didn't need their help much; everything went really smoothly. The sand and the palm trees at the beach are beautiful--the kids just loved the experience of waking up, opening the door, and walking right out onto the beach and into the sea in the morning. The parents loved having our morning coffee in the hammocks by the sea. We enjoyed fabulous swimming, snorkeling and kayaking out into the calm, turquoise blue bay. And our favorite visitor was, of course, Coco, the neighbour's dog, who gave us endless hours of entertainment.
Thank you so much for staying with us at Villa Leona. We are so glad you enjoyed it as much as we do!
Please hurry back anytime you can escape. The sea, the sand and Coco will all be waiting to great you once again!
Can't wait to return!!!
This is the perfect little beach house! It is set back from the other houses so you don't have to stare at the neighbors. You have your own private beach and palapa and easy beach entry.
The staff is great and he's a great cook, you must have him make you at least one meal.
The house is so cute and perfect for family or friends, all you need is there.
Solomon Bay is one of the best in the area, and not as crazy busy as others.
We will return as soon as possible!
A great respite from the madness of Cancun
This was a great property in a private little bay close to Tulum. The interior could use a little more light, especially upstairs ( a couple of more lamps would go a long way), but the beach and the yard were great. Overall, not enchanted with Tulum and certainly not with Cancun. Tulum has gone way-too-LA and Cancun is just disgusting, like Vegas in Mexico. But, should you find yourself in this part of the world and looking for a peaceful retreat, this property is a great choice. With respect to the previously mentioned orange house, yes, you are nose-to-ass with all your neighbors and while everyone was pretty chill, it could easily get out of hand with a the wrong group next door. Also, this property lacks privacy inside, so if your are an active couple with kids, fogetaboudit. Overall, a pretty good value for the area, but you would have to spend a lot more to have the kind of privacy and seclusion (here in the Tulum area) that I've become used to in other parts of the world for a lot less. Great place, accurately advertised and described and Hermanillo and company kept the place immaculate during our stay.
This is a small gem that is one of the few affordable single villas in an increasingly upscale area. It had everything we needed...an adequately stocked kitchen, air-conditioned bedrooms, satellite TV (actually we never once turned the TV on in two weeks, but I know that'll be important for some folks), and Wi-Fi (be aware that Wi-Fi in the area is pretty slow, so no Netflix, but this is not the fault of the villa, it's endemic of Mexico in general). It's very clean and the staff is polite, friendly and unobtrusive. The villa is liberally supplied with fans as well, but we didn't really need them with the lovely breeze coming off the bay. You have your own beach, your own beach chairs, your own hammocks...it's just a whole world away from staying at an all-inclusive resort. You also have your own dog, if you're lucky (send Sparky our love...what a sweetie!). Great snorkeling is just out your back door, as are a very upscale restaurant at the Hotel Jashita which is a small and quiet boutique hotel about 4 minutes walk down the beach. The hotel also has a boat that can be hired to take you out to the reef. There is a little convenience store in the back alley (The Bob Store), and the famous Oscar y Lalo is about 5 minutes' drive away. You can use the 2 kayaks provided for the villa to kayak over to Chamico's on the other side of the bay for lunch. Don't forget to hire Jeremias to make dinner for you, he is an amazing chef and it costs next to nothing. We were sorry we didn't do it more often. Very convenient to Tulum and Akumal, you still feel like you're in your own little insular world in Soliman Bay. Xel-Ha eco park is just a few minutes away, as are several cenotes that you can visit. This was our second trip to Soliman Bay. Last year we were perfectly happy hanging around the bay and enjoying everything to offer there and we left the grounds very seldom. This year we wanted to explore the area more. You can relax or be as active as you want, it's the perfect place for it. I hope we'll be back again soon!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, we are so happy you enjoyed yourselves. I have tried to make "Villa Leona" a special place and I know I have a great staff and chef.
Please return soon!!
Outstanding place to stay! Great beach!
The owner and property managers are excellent. Super helpful. The house is set up wonderfully. It has everything thing you need ....and a great BBQ area. The water is super clear with a great beach. Good snorkelling and having the kayaks to paddle out to the break is awesome. Excellent restaurant on the beach within walking distance too. Not far to Tulum...You will not wanna leave this place!
Located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, just 24km from the town Tulum as well as the Mayan Archeological site. Enjoy some of the world's most beautiful and pristine beaches, water holes (cents). Both Tulum and Playa del Carmen offer a wide variety of shops, restaurants and nightlife. Soliman Bay is pristine and tranquil, an ideal place to unwind and relax.
