A sign in the bathroom reads “What happens at the lake stays at the lake”. The cabin we stayed was about 50 feet from the water on a gentle slope, cheerfully decorated with signs like this and other nautical relics. From the bedroom windows, we could see the lake through the trees. The owners have an artistic taste when it comes to interior design and we appreciated the rustic lake house ambiance and the colors of the accent walls.
We spent the Memorial Day weekend here, which turned out to be among the best vacations we have had. The hosts, Dave and MB, happened to be there as well, which was very helpful. Dave showed us around the property when we first got there: a collection of kayaks and stand up boards, a paddle boat, a playroom with a pool table and ping pong among other games.
The morning on the lake was tranquil and soothing. As it faces west, the lights were not so bright, and it was very comfortable for reading. Sitting on one of the colorful Adirondack chairs, having feet up on a bean bag cube, you knew you’re really on vacation. A day would go by quickly as there were many things to do: kayaking, stand up boarding (which was our first time), and swimming (the water was a little cold but sobering – like having a chilled beer on a hot day). To dry up, we played pool and ping pong in the playroom, which is above the boat house, with a balcony facing the lake. Several colorful wooden chairs are on the balcony, where one could sit comfortably to watch the sunset at the lake.
The water was super clear so we could easily see the rocks on the bottom. Sitting on a swing over the water was another small treat not to miss, which was good any time during the day. Dave and MB would come by, and we would exchange some pleasantries about the day, the weather, and the life on the lake. Mini and Sushi, the two lively animals you can see from owners’ picture, would often come along and play with us. Mini is the younger one, intelligent, very friendly and playful.
The nearest “town” is about four miles away and the only supermarket there has an excellent meat department (for the grill), as well as everything else one may need for the weekend. The place is far away from the suburban life we want to escape but also has all the necessary conveniences to feel connected.
To our hosts, Dave and MB, thank you! And we will certainly come back to see you in the future.
