Lodge, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 12)
'The Mountain House', named by our grandson, is located in the Big Canoe resort and is a convenient 2 miles from the Big Canoe pool, lake, fitness center, golf club and The Chimneys wedding venue. Our home provides spacious accommodations with breath taking mountain and valley views. Our 5 bedroom 3 bathroom home has enough space for everyone to gather around the fireplace in the main room or to spread out by the fireplace in the terrace level, the screen porch, decks or other 3 floors.
As you enter the home on the main floor you will find a fully equipped kitchen with walnut cabinets, granite countertops and a double oven. The kitchen is spacious enough for multiple cooks to prepare a holiday meal, but if you prefer a more relaxed meal plan, use the Weber gas grill located on the large deck. You enter the family sized screen porch through the dining area. The porch is the perfect place to rock in the willow rocking chair while watching your dinner cook on the gas grill. The porch and deck provide long range mountain and valley views. The main level is also the central indoor gathering place to sit on the leather sofas while enjoying the floor to ceiling stone wood burning fireplace and the rustic beamed ceiling. In the fall and winter months you can cheer for your favorite football team while you watch the game on the 50' flat screen TV. The main floor bedroom is off of the main gathering room and has a king size bed, a 32' flat screen TV and a connecting bath.
Upstairs, the spacious master has it's own bathroom, a king size bed and a 32' flat screen TV. The second floor is also home to the 'Bunk Room'. The 'Bunk Room' has a two twin beds and is suitable for children or adults.
One floor up from the second floor master bedroom and Bunk Room is the Crow's Nest. The Crow's Nest provides the ultimate mountain views and is a quiet getaway for reading, viewing the mountains and valley or having a quiet workplace using the built in computer desk. The home is equipped with wireless internet.
The lower level provides another family room with a fireplace, 40' TV, DVD, and sound system. This floor is home to 2 large bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom has a king size bed with a connecting bathroom and the other bedroom has 2 full beds. Both bedrooms have 32' flat screen TVs. The downstairs family room has sliding doors leading to a covered porch and another large deck. Keep your eyes open because deer will cross through the side and back yards each day around 2 pm.
The Big Canoe resort area is set in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. The Big Canoe mountain community setting boasts of 3 golf courses, tennis, swimming, canoeing, paddle boats, rock slide, hiking and fitness center. Summer month rentals (Memorial weekend to Labor Day weekend) include eight pool passes which allow access to the 2 outdoor swimming pools, paddle boats, lake obstacle course and the rock slide. There is something to fill every day of your visit or you may choose to just relax on the screened porch or outside decks.

About Joanne Leonard
We purchased this home after owning a smaller log cabin in Big Canoe. We wanted a home that was large enough for our family of 3 children, their spouses and our 6 grandchildren to vacation all at one time. We searched Big Canoe for a year and a half looking for the right house. When we walked through the door of this house we knew we had found our home. Our mountain home sleeps each family comfortably with room to spread out and enjoy the laid back lifestyle that Big Canoe has to offer. We look forward to sharing our home with you and your family.
Joanne Leonard purchased this Lodge in 2010
Why Joanne Leonard chose Big Canoe
Big Canoe offers a resort style community that is close to our home in Cumming. Because of it's close proximiity to Atlanta, it is easy for our family to escape to the mountains in a community that has something to offer every age and every interest.
What makes this Lodge unique
The tranquil setting in the woods allows us to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature, the wildlife and the fellowship of our family. My favorite part is getting away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We enjoy sitting in the willow rocking chairs on the screened porch and visiting with our children and grandchildren. The home has an open floor plan with a beautiful large kitchen, a spacious dining area, and large living spaces with a rustic mountain decor. The home has 4 floors so there is room for everyone!

The perfect setting
What a beautiful house at a quiet and peaceful location. The view is breathtaking. The only complaint we had was our stay was too short. We will be visiting this home again in the future. Thank you Joanne for allowing us to stay in your home. The screened in porch and top deck was our favorite spot to visit with family. Thank you again
Impressive! Great view, big comfortable rooms and decks, well stocked kitchen.
Our family of seven was very comfortable in this house. Each couple had their own room and plenty of personal space, but there was also plenty of room to gather as a family. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook well rounded meals, and the grill was a big plus for our cookout. I would absolutely recommend this house to anyone with a large family looking for a comfortable place to stay with an absolutely beautiful Mountain View!
Fantastic Mountain Retreat!
Our group thoroughly enjoyed Big Canoe and this home! The bedrooms has a wonderful layout and the children with us thought it was so fun to play in the basement and the 4th floor. The adults really enjoyed the screened porch and the gorgeous views from the patio (and every window of the home!). We went fishing, went to the Easter Egg Hunt, played golf and enjoyed lunch at the restaurant next to the clubhouse. The home was perfectly furnished- just be sure to bring your own shampoo because the nearest store is a trek down the mountain! We will definitely be back and look forward to working with this very pleasant owner again!
IT is so nice to hear that your group enjoyed our home and the beauty of the mountains. Our family enjoys all the activities of Big Canoe as well.
We had a wonderful long weekend!
Wonderful home. Best supplied kitchen I have encountered in a rental property. Nice furnishings and comfortable spaces. We are making plans to come back!
We are so glad you enjoyed your visit and found the kitchen supplied with all the equipment that you needed. We hope to see you again soon!
Beautiful setting! Amazing sunsets! Perfect setup for large family groups!
Joanne was a pleasure to work with - we appreciated the welcome phone call! The house is beautiful! Kitchen is well equipped and has everything you'll need to cook for a large group. We brought our son and a group of 4 other high school seniors for a senior trip. The boys enjoyed having the terrace level all to themselves; the parents were able to relax in the main living areas. It was a little too cool to enjoy the screened in porch and deck, but I bet it's an amazing place in the summer.
Another wonderful weekend at the Mountain House!
Our group stays at the Mountain House every winter on our annual girls weekend. It was perfect as always. The house is very clean, the kitchen is well equipped, the bedroom set up is perfect for our group and the house has plenty of room for everyone. We ate at the Black Bear Pub at the Big Canoe clubhouse and the food was excellent. The owners of the house couldn't be nicer and they always check to make sure we all arrived safely on our first night to their home. We will be back again next year.
Our home is a smoke free home.
