RiverBend Cabin is situated on the beautiful Maury River in historic Rockbridge County, Virginia. It is secluded, but very close (about 5-10 minutes) to downtown Lexington, Washington and Lee University, VMI, and the Virginia Horse Center.
The Cabin was built in 2007. It is two levels, with the first floor level having a large gathering area (about 700 square feet), a kitchen, full bathroom, and bedroom. The panelled gathering area is highlighted by a large wood-burning stone fireplace with adjacent glass doors that open outward onto a spacious covered porch with rocking chairs and a view of the river and meadow. Comfortable over-stuffed couches are centered around the fireplace and a large flat screen TV with DVD rests above the mantle. An eight-seat plank dining table easily accommodates your entire family and is situated near the rear of the great room. The adjacent open kitchen features stainless steel appliances and has everything you might need to prepare your meals.
The first floor bedroom (about 150 square feet in size) has a queen bed, an armoire, chest of drawers, and plenty of lamps for reading. A double casement window has a great view looking upstream towards a meadow. An adjacent full bath is provided, with a shower. Two bedrooms are located up the hardwood steps to the second level. The first upstairs bedroom (about 140 square feet in size) has a double bed with a chest of drawers and wall/door hangers for hanging clothes. The large windows look out onto nearby towering trees. The other upstairs bedroom (about 250 square feet) offers three twin beds with spectacular views of the river and meadow. A television, DVD, and game console are provided with a chest of drawers and plenty of wall/door hangers. A full bathroom with a shower is located between the upstairs bedrooms.
The first floor level has architecturally stained concrete floors with area rugs and the second level is carpeted.
An outdoor shower is provided.
RiverBend Cabin is situated on a bend of the Maury River. The Cabin sits on a small bluff only 50 yards from the riverbank and is sited such that there are serene views both upstream and downstream. We are lucky to have adjacent Conservation Easement properties across the river as well as upstream so you won't see another structure anywhere nearby! The cabin and porch overlook a flat field that leads to the river. This is a great place for family games and for a nighttime campfire.
The river itself is beautiful. It is ever-changing and has a different allure with each season. It has an emerald green tint in the winter and spring and is gin-clear in the summer. It is seasonal in its levels, with slower flows in the summer. Our stretch of the river is typically quite placid as the river makes its way around the bend.
One of the most wondrous areas in Virginia is the nearby Goshen Pass, only 10-15 minutes upstream. The Pass is a deep gorge cut through by the river and is strewn with enormous boulders, and is lined with towering hardwoods and large stands of rhododendron. It is a must see!
Lexington and the Shenandoah Valley are steeped in history. Downtown Lexington boasts two colleges (VMI and Washington and Lee) and is electric on those big college weekends. It has many quaint restaurants and shops and is a great place to explore. Lexington has been called by one travel magazine as one of the 'coolest small towns in America.'
Outdoor activities are plentiful. Beyond hiking, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, you can take in a round of golf at one of the nearby local courses, or play at the world famous Homestead and Greenbrier resorts not too far away.
We love our spot here in Rockbridge County and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

We are a family of five, with three boys and a dog named Lexie. We are very family oriented and have a great love of the outdoors.

We love time spent in a beautiful area along a beautiful river. We are lucky to be out in the country but close enough to downtown Lexington to enjoy the trappings of a uniquely quaint town.
The beauty of the Shenandoah Valley is remarkable and the outdoor activities are limitless. We are centrally located, not far from Roanoke, Charlottesville (UVA), and the wonders of the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. You can find nearby ski resorts, golf courses and resorts, watch Division 1 and 3 sports at VMI and W and L, go to nearby Hull's Drive-In movie theater, and float and fish the Maury/James/Jackson rivers, among so many other things. We never get bored!
My husband and I and our 2 dogs rented this cabin for 3 nights. This cabin and property are impeccable! We were blown away from the time we pulled down the driveway and saw this beautiful property! We fished, hiked, grilled, played games and enjoyed the fire pit each night. My husband enjoyed the kayak while the dogs swam along beside him! I can't say enough about this wonderful property! We will be back!
Impeccable. The comforts of home combined with the feeling of rest & relaxation of the great outdoors. Since this was a weekend visit we appreciated
not having to pack all sorts of gear...Cabin is thoughtfully stocked with all that a family could possibly want or need. Hull's Drive In brought back fond memories, as did the drive through Safari Park.Goshen Pass is a must see.
Secluded to a point but not too far away for exploring!.
Grands paddled up & down the Maury River. We loved that we could sit on the porch & with a view of the water as well as the meadow. Just a little bit of heaven. Every detail was well thought out.
This will surely be added to "our favorites" with the hopes that we will return someday soon. Added bonus was that the Bichon's were allowed to accompany us. Thank You, Judy March & Family
Two weeks ago, my wife, daughter and I joined another family for an awesome weekend in the VA mountains. The cabin was the absolute perfect spot for us! The three kids (ages 5,8,9) had a ball wading in the Maury River, and since it was only waist deep, we didn't have to worry about them at all. Did a little fishing, took the kayaks for a couple of short trips, roasted marshmallows over an open fire...ran out of time before things to do. It was a great base day trips to see Natural Bridge and the other local sights. The cabin was fully stocked, and all we needed was a visit to Walmart for food, and we were set for the weekend. We will definitely be back!
Every once in a while you run in to a place that is so nice you hate to write a review, in fear others will flock there, and spoil this amazing getaway! My family and I went here for a long weekend. We had high expectations, that were meet and exceaded! The home was clean and comfortable. There are no neighbors within sight of this home. The privacy is unmatched. We took our canoe and paddeled up and down the Maury river. It was nice to have such a great river in the back yard. Fishing was pretty good here! My four year old daughter caught a bunch of small bass and a couple trout. We didn't use the fireplace or the bonfire area, but they were there and had plenty of fire wood around them. There are a lot of attraction in the area. All easy to get to from here. We really enjoy the Virgina safari park!
All in all, a GREAT weekend. We will be back!!!
We just stayed for two nights at Thanksgiving, but we couldn't have asked for more perfect accomodations. Everything that we needed was at the house, the property is absolutely beautiful....we plan on coming back for a week next summer!! We had a wonderful time...Thanks so much!!!
Our family has visited Riverbend Cabin on a number of occasions. What a lovely, peaceful place! So convenient to Lexington, but chances are you will not see another soul. The cabin is beautifully appointed with a very nice open kitchen and a large table to seat your entire clan. The cabin is situated on bend in the river with beautiful views of the surrounding area. It's just a fabulous place for a peaceful getaway!
