About Jodi Underhill

I am a 52 year old single independent woman who loves to design, decorate and create and I am addicted to HGTV and Pinterest. I am always thinking about a new project. I love all animals especially dogs and horses. I have worked in a restaurant for 1 year, a plywood mill for 2 years, a fitness center for 4 years, did road construction for 15 years, worked as a vacation home cleaner for property management companies for 10 years and am a self taught carpenter and currently run and manage my own rentals. The yurt is a dream of mine and I am trying to raise the money to apply for a variance to pass the yurt as a guest quarters so that it does not have to be taken down.

Jodi Underhill purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Jodi Underhill chose Northern Coast

I didn't buy the vacation rental in this location. I purchase it from Pacific Yurts in Cottage Grove as a kit and then it was my project on my days off. The house where I grew up is above the yurt and it is now listed on VRBO as well, listing # 431861. I am very independant and motivated and always have a project to keep me busy. I wanted to make it unique and like no other yurt that I had ever seen so I decided to frame in the windows and add white pine tongue and groove throughout. The windows have lodgepole pine trim. The soaking tub, shower, vanity, kitchen backsplash and kitchen island are accented with pebble tile. It is rustic yet elegant at the same time. It is a 5 minute drive to the beach in either direction and if you prefer the be in the mountains it is also just a short drive to go hiking or off roading to ride quads, dirt bikes or horses. There is plenty of room to turn around a boat or horse trailer on the property and plenty of parking. The yurt was actually up during the huge hurricane we had in 2007 with 140 mph sustained winds for 4 days and it handled it with ease. If you rent both properties together for a week I will give you a 10% discount.

What makes this cabin unique

I have a few deer that frequent the property and you can hear the sound of frogs croaking in pond at night. On occasion you can hear coyotes in the fall or see raccoons and geese, chipmunks and squirrel around the property. There are wood ducks, blue herons, cranes, mergansers and king fisher that frequent the pond as well as a mallard and drake that come back to the pond every spring to have their babies. You can view heards of elk in the field on the way into town. We have even had a couple bear and cougar sightings. It is very peaceful with the sound of the creek running directly beside the yurt. There are lots of water dogs in the pond and a few KOI. There will be lots more fish by next summer as I am hoping to get it stocked with trout. The yurt is great for quality family time since there are lots of board games, an outside corn hole bag toss game and lots of movies. There is also an outside firepit and barbecue. Guess you could call it glamping (glamorous camping). What would camping be without the dogs, they are allowed and there is no pet fee.

There is plenty of room if you want to bring the boat or horse trailer or happen to have an RV. Tents are welcome too.

Yes, this Yurt is cute. Inside. It is really quite adorable. The décor is reminiscent of a gift shop in Montana with bears everywhere…on the light switches, on the signs on the walls, on the dishes. Jodi did a really cute job decorating with this theme. The bed – incredibly comfortable. The kitchen – everything one could possibly need to cook and bake. The bathroom – lovely tub with plenty of hot water. The Yurt stays quite warm with the heaters. And very spacious, big enough to make the TV area feel separate from the kitchen. And watching the moon or sunlight stream through the skydome is really nice.

The bad part – location. Yes, it is conveniently situated halfway between Seaside and Cannon Beach, but that is about it. It sits immediately next to a gross dumpsite full of appliances, dead cars and piles of NON-biodegradable trash and the driveway behind the Yurt ends at the entrance to a working Quarry – very noisy. These are the only two things separating the location from the Highway, so you also have to hear all the traffic flying by. Finally, the rental cabin on the property faces the Yurt, so when those renters are outside at 2am on their deck, all of their conversation is aimed right at the Yurt, which being a tent, you hear everything at full volume through the “walls”. Maybe that is why there is a jar of earplugs set out on the bedside table. Not so romantic.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at The Bear's Den Rhianna. You are the only one in 5 years who has had a negative complaint in either property. I cannot help what my neighboring property looks like but that is why I built an 8 foot fence all along the whole backside of the yurt. There is a guy that lives in the park below who has a tow business and he parks the old vehicles over there. I really wish instead of complaining on my website that you would contact Clatsop County Land Use and then maybe more would be done that is out of my hands. I do want to mention though that you would not have even seen it if you had not been standing on your tip toes on the picnic table to look over the fence and through the trees. As far as the noise from the quarry next door, they were closed for the whole Thanksgiving weekend, the equipment noise that you heard was actually the neighbor Gary working behind the yurt to clean up the said area that you were mentioning. If you heard the people outside of the house I am sure they just stepped out to have a cigarette for a few seconds since it was 30 degrees out there. Pretty sure they were not having an outside party on an icy deck in the middle of winter. The ear plugs are offered not because it is noisy but since there is only one sleeping area in the yurt they are offered in case the person next to you is snoring. I can't please everyone all of the time. I did try to make it up to you by giving you $100 off of your stay which was more than generous. I also want to mention part of the noise may have been a loader that had to go through the property twice for an emergency situation below due to flooding. I can't tell the neighbor that he will have to wait until my renters check out to put boulders on his bridge so that it doesn't wash away. Some things are not in our hands.

Where to start? Fabulous, private and wooded location. This yurt was beyond our expectations. Quality of both workmanship and interior accents were amazing! My family visited during 3 days of non stop heavy rains, and couldn't have been more comfortable! Jodi supplied anything and everything we! We can't wait to return and use the outdoor bbq and fire pit. We hope to stay here for evermore...really!

Relaxation to the nth degree!

This is a like a little bit of heaven on the coast and we were so thankful to have found it! Many thanks to Jodi as she was a breeze to work with, the yurt was nicely stocked with just about everything you could ever need, beautiful quiet location, and pet friendly. My only regret -- we couldn't stay longer!

Really just...Wow!

I want to say thank you SO much to Jodi! We rented both the yurt and the cabin for our wedding reception. We couldn't have made a better decision! Jodi is the perfect hostess :) Her attention to detail is just amazing! She stayed in contact for the months ahead of the reception and was constantly thinking of things for our special day. We arrived early (with permission of course :) ). Jodi had worked so hard to make the yard perfect. Both the cabin and the yurt are so beautiful. She has put so much care in to both properties and has forgotten nothing. Everything we needed and more. We had a small ceremony on the beach in Seaside and then came back to the property for our reception. A lot of family and friends came. There was plenty of room. We put up a few easy-ups for shade (it was over 85 degrees :) ). Jodi had provided some Adirondack chairs and we had brought a few of our own so there was plenty of seating. We were so excited to show people the yurt and the cabin as they arrived. Everyone was very impressed! :) We used the fire pit every night (firewood was even provided!). The set up worked perfect, we got the yurt all to ourselves and the parents stayed in the cabin. Now that we are home we definitely miss the HUGE king size bed in the yurt! :) I loved all the lights (both inside and out). The outdoor kitchen was Perfect! The built in BBQ and lots of counter space came in Very handy. Jodi- Thank you again! You were a Huge part of our special day and we will always remember :) Can’t wait to come back again!!!  

There is a day hike over Tillamook Head from Ecola State Park, you can hike down to Short Sands private beach at Oswald West State Park or drive to Young's River Falls or Nehalem Falls. Coffenbury Lake and Cullably Lake for swimming, boating or picnicking within 10 miles or access to several different beaches to check out for beach combing & sunbathing. Gearhart and Sunset Beach you can actually drive on but not reccomended if the approach is built up with dry sand or the tide is coming in. You can have a beach bonfire as well as long as it is not in the dune grass for obvious reasons.

I am only accepting reservations only for June, July and August at this time and having guests pay in full to use the money to pay for the septic system that needs to be done to make the Clatsop County Land Use happy. Thanks in advance for all of your help. I normally only take 50% down at the time of booking but it is the only obvious way that this is going to get done hopefully by the end of April.
