Inn Beervana is a B&B, bed and beer, for visitors coming to explore Portland’s beer culture and that of the greater Pacific Northwest. The loft apartment is detached and offers complete comfort and privacy in a relaxing, central location. It sleeps four comfortably and includes a full kitchen. Upon checking in, guests will find a mixed six-pack of Oregon craft beer in the fridge (or a bottle of local wine or cider if preferred. Great wine tasting is within an hour's drive).
The owners, Brian & Kimberley, were living overseas for over a year, hence the lack of reviews since late 2013. We had talked about doing something like this for years. We’ve beer tripped throughout the entire country. Cheap motels or expensive hotels have a way of marring otherwise great beercations. By converting our detached apartment into a hop-artment, we can provide an ideal home base for people looking to discover what makes Portland ‘Beervana.’
Inn Beervana is located in the Hawthorne District of Southeast Portland (neighboring areas include Sunnyside, Buckman, Belmont, Clinton, Mt. Tabor), walking distance from many of the destinations beer lovers have high atop their bucket lists such as the world-famous Horse Brass Pub, Belmont Station bottle shop and the adjoining Biercafe, as well as myriad tap houses, restaurants, quintessential food cart pods, and parks. The McMenamin Bros. brewpub and theater that anchors the neighborhood, the Bagdad Café, is two blocks away. Downtown is only 15-20 minutes away by bus or bike with two bus lines almost out the front door.
Half Pint has a degree in art and design and hand painted the giant hop mural adorning the apartment’s entire western wall. The room features a luxurious queen bed with another queen mattress above in the loft. Plenty of lounging space, TV/DVD/VCR, and free wi-fi round out the quarters. Guests enter through a private garden area that they are free to enjoy.
Brian and Kimberley have friends in the beer world across the country and are excited to welcome those on a "beercation" to one of the US's great Meccas of craft brewing. Brian is the author of "Oregon Breweries," a comprehensive guidebook and "Red, White, and Brew: An American Beer Odyssey" as well as contributor to several beer magazines and blogs. Ask to try some homebrew! Kimberley is known in beer circles as "Half Pint" and is the artistic--and tidy--half. Both take great pride in extending Northwest hospitality to like-minded travelers.
Brian Yaeger purchased this apartment in 2011
We'd looked into starting a "B&B" before but this detached apartment screamed out for launching Inn Beervana. There are brewpubs in every corner of this great city--almost 60 in all--but we feel that the Southeast makes for the best home base when exploring Beervana specifically and Portland in general. It's close to the airport, services, downtown, the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge for hiking, etc.
Guests are welcomed with a mixed 6 pack of Oregon beer (or a bottle of Oregon wine or cider if preferred). The decor is inviting and offers just the right amount of of breweriana to get visitors excited about exploring. Autographed copies of OREGON BREWERIES or RED, WHITE, & BREW are available and reading material featuring a selection of local maps and interests are made available. Look for unique experiences and activities to be offered soon. Perhaps a personal brewery tour can be arranged.
We were delighted with our stay at Beervana while visiting our daughter during Christmas week. The location was perfect - close to her place and in walking distance to shops and restaurants. The studio is spacious and comfortable for our crew of two adults and two dogs. It will be the top of our list for places to stay on a return visit.
We had a GREAT experience! My daughter and I came here from Hawaii to look at colleges.. This place gave us a great feel about what Portland has to offer!
We would love to come and stay again!
We were able to walk anywhere we wanted to be from this rental. Air conditioning was a plus, since it was unusually hot while we visited. Older travelers, or anyone with a disability may not enjoy the stairs to the bathroom in the middle of the night, but the apt. is comfortable, with a good shower. Tiny kitchen with a little stone table in the middle does not lend itself to ease of meal preparation, if you plan to cook in.
We had a fantastic time staying in Beervana!! Our hosts were extra-helpful and accommodating. Myself and my two friends each had our own beds to sleep in, a washer and dryer to clean our dirty backpacking gear, and a nice kitchen and lovely shower. There was a nice breeze through the apartment and a patio to hang out on when we weren't out bar-hopping and shopping. I give Brian 5 stars, and recommend this place highly. It was truly a very relaxing, convenient, and perfect place to end our trip to the PNW.
Brian and family were excellent hosts, they had us set-up and provided everything we needed to enjoy the tastes of Portland's beer scene. By itself, the place is within walking distance of many great establishments to eat, drink and relax. In addition, Brian knows his stuff. If you are looking for any particular beer be sure to ask and he will point you in the right direction! The beeriodic table even helped me to explain some of the brews to my less beer-oriented wife. We whole-heatedly recommend it!
We had a wonderful stay! Brian was very kind and helpful. Izzy is the cutest :). Apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. Bed was very comfy! Location is awesome!! Waffle window is a must! Pok pok gets an A+. Porque no has yummy Mexican!! We will definitely stay again!
