My family and I had a lovely stay at Captain Hal's boat house over Christmas. The house was in a super quiet neighborhood with a beautiful view out the sliding doors. You could walk outside and hear nothing but the sounds from the various birds everywhere. Seriously, the neighborhood was so quiet, and we didn't see many people. The house is on a dead-end street so not much traffic either which is great for kids and dogs. Our pups loved to look out the window and check out the ducks and egrets hanging out on the water.
The house was stocked with anything we could have needed including small kitchen appliances and cooking/baking stuff. It has a fireplace which was great to light in the evenings. We were also able to move the furniture slightly so we had plenty of room for 5 to watch TV. Dining table had 6 chairs, though another one or two could squeeze in.
The house is a bit dated, with popcorn ceilings, but we didn't mind. It's super kitschy with boating, captain, and ocan motif. Outside of the house is adorable in the yellow color.
Hal was communicative and gave us some good tips. The lake is big with little towns all around it. We found the lake park and walked for a good hour which was beautiful. We also drove 1.5 hours (on a very windy road) to Montgomery Reserve and walked amongst the redwoods.
A few things to be aware of:
-We were a party of 5 and the fold out couch and the two cots weren't super comfortable. I ended up sleeping on a couch instead. That said, there is plenty of room for an air mattress and the couch was pretty comfy for one person.
-The house needs a good deep cleaning. It was tidy and a clean was obviously done, but it was time for a thorough once-over. I'm assuming after this review, it will get one, so hopefully won't be an issue for any future bookings.
