Rustic home with a nice deck overlooking a creek and small garden. Musical instruments abound.

We were surprised to find the longhouse in a small modern neighborhood. It was close to a nice river run. Another surprise were the beds on the floor but they slept fine and the host family was excellent at communicating helpful information. Just beware that the VRBO charges a $40 fee and $80 cleanup fee that is not reflected in the per night advertised charge.

Super cool house, very cozy, warm and inviting, great location.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time in C'ville staying in the Log Cabin. The house was clean and in a great part of town, close to stores, the Downtown Mall and the river. The deck is a great place to relax and cook out on the huge gas grill. Leora is great to work with and extremely responsive. We will be back.

Not exactly what we expected, but great back yard

  • 2 of 5

This house fell short of our expectations (especially surprising given the prior positive reviews).

1-- Things not in working condition: The cold water valve in the upstairs tub was broken making it impossible to turn off the water while we bathed. It required turning off the water at the source - and we only found the source when I was bathing the kids and the entire 12 by 12 inch stone tile from the side of the tub fell on my foot leaving a gaping hole under the tub. The handles of the faucet in the upstairs sink were completely missing. There were several lights in the bathroom and bedrooms in need of replacement.

2-- General state of the house: There was dust and dust balls accumulated on shelves, window sills, on furniture, in corners and under beds. Granted, this is a log cabin and it is difficult to maintain wooden floors free of dust, but given that we were originally charged a cleaning fee [which the owner graciously reimbursed], it would have been reasonable to think that the house would have been thoroughly and professionally cleaned prior to our arrival as well. The furniture was worn and faded, the toilets stained. In addition, there were safety hazards for children as well as adults throughout the house and deck area: little copper BBs all over the floor, tacks, and lattices with dozens of nails sticking out.

3 -- Good things about the house: The house is centrally located making it easy to get around and sight-see. In addition, the children enjoyed the backyard as well as the swing and spent quite a bit of time exploring outside. A nice touch: the owner had laid out carafes of water and glasses next to each of the beds.

Overall, not exactly in line with the many other VRBO rentals we've enjoyed over the years, but one that is centrally located.

Owner's Response: Sorry that these guests did not find the house up to their expectations. Honestly, I think these guests were quite picky, and were walking around with a magnifying glass. The cold valve upstairs was in fact broken during their stay, as it was working fine before their arrival. Perhaps another guest in her party was responsible? It has since been repaired. There were dustballs from a white rug in the upstairs bedroom which was tricky to avoid (it constantly shed white fluff, but we have since removed the rug), but I did look under their bed upstairs and she was right, it did need to be swept more thoroughly for dustballs. The toilet body does have a few small stains of tiling grout that is impossible to remove, but it is clean. It is not a perfect house, and the furniture is more casual than a fancy hotel, but you can see exactly what furniture we offer in the photos. The price is also more affordable than a fancy hotel. There is a lattice gate at the stop of the stairs which we placed there so that guests can keep dogs on the porch, and some staples were exposed. These guests had small children. I think it is normal when you have small children to child proof a space for them and make sure you take extra precautions for them that owners may have overlooked. I have since knocked out the staples. These guests also requested that I provide a crib for them, so I arranged for one to be brought especially for their arrival. They did not even use the crib, nor thank me. Now we at least do have a crib for future visitors. This was not a cheap endeavor, and a special favor for them. Frankly, I've had about 60 visitors to the house, and almost all have been very appreciative and grateful and have loved the place, but these guests and one other have been the exception. I think it's important that guests do not arrive expecting a fancy hotel, because it is a loghouse and is more casual, but also cozy.

Great family house

  • 4 of 5

We rented this place for 2 nights right before Christmas to visit family in c-ville. It was a great house for the kids to play, lots of musical instruments, with kid size tables and chairs available. We felt right at home and the coffee they left us was great!

Great stay! Fun Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Leora was so nice, she was very hospitable. The house was in excellent condition and in a perfect location. We were sad to hear that they would be moving back into the house and only renting the treehouse in the future, we loved staying there and would certainly do it for our next DMB weekend in Charllotesville if available! Thanks for everything we really had a great time and a great stay!!!

No-frills fun getaway

  • 4 of 5

I rented this cabin to celebrate my sister's 30th birthday with 8 close friends.

Leora was very helpful and sweet during the planning phases. The loghouse was very inviting and cozy, reminiscent of the south west. We did some winery tours during the day which were very closely located, made an amazing meal together in the fully stocked kitchen (although I would suggest bringing a sharp knife), and slept very comfortably in the four separate bedrooms. It was a wonderful weekend and I would recommend the loghouse to anyone looking a no-frills fun getaway.
