About John Russo/Charles Orme
I grew up on a cattle ranch in Arizona between Sedona and Phoenix and spent 30 years in New York City working with a Wall Street firm. I began travelling to Morocco on business starting in 1998 but quickly fell in love with Essaouira and purchased this property in 2003' finally moving here 2 years ago when I immediately began the restoration of this old sea front bakery. It was very exciting to carefully plan every step of the restoration.I am an ocean person and I am thrilled each day to walk out on our sea balconies complete with daily blue skies and sunshine. I, so look forward for guests to experience the house, Dar Evening Star, and the sea at it's best!

Why John Russo/Charles Orme chose Medina
Essaouira was an accident for me. I wandered into town , one Christmas, many years ago and fell in love with it on contact. The old fishing port, the beautiful pedestrian ,ancient walled medina, the ocean around every corner, plus the sunshine and crystal blue skies...Much later in 2003 , now with local friends urging me on, I began my search for property. In one day I purchased 2! One, in which, to live and another to slowly and carefully restore. This property was nearly abandoned with an 1850´s long retired bakery on the ground floor. What immediately captured me where the unobstructed ocean views but also to sit on top of the ancient city walls facing the sea and be a part of the Portugese heritage of Morocco made this opportunity irresistable. Now the house is finished but maintains an ancient feel with all of the comforts of home. That's the Abridged history of Dar Evening Star!
