This bright and fully furnished apartment is located on the first floor of a 3-storey family house with just 4 units. It offers you a private, spacious terrace with pool view, a second private terrace in the back and a shared roof-top terrace with a breathtaking ocean view. The apartment has been renovated in 2011; it is fully equipped, ceiling fans, screened windows and AC in the bedroom. The bedroom is equipped with a Queen Size Bed; The bathroom is bright and spacious.

Enjoy the gentle breeze from the spacious gazebo on the pool side and walk just 150 yards to the beautiful beach. All the amenities of Costambar like restaurants, bars, supermarket tennis court, gym and golf course are just a 5-8 minutes walk away. The historical centre of Puerto Plata, Ocean World Aquatic Park and the Cable Car to the Mount Isabel National Park is a 5 minutes drive away. You will find public transport on the Costambar entrance gate. We also arrange private excursions in our own car to all major tourist attractions. Prices starts at 30 US$ per person. Private spanish conversation classes are also available from as low as 7 US$ per hour.

We have chosen this location because we wanted to live in a safe place, close to town but quiet and next to a beautiful beach. We enjoy living in a international community and having all the ammenities in walking distance.

What makes this apartment unique

We have one of the nicest tropical gardens in Costambar. I like walking a view steps to the beach in the morning and having the whole beach just for myself. Relaxing on the roof top terrace and enjoying the ocean view is just another unique benefit of our property.

We do have a Hyundai Sonata car for rent available and we organize day excursions for 1-4 persons in our own comfortable car. My wife is a spanish teacher and she gives spanish conversation classes at very good rates.

Garden of Paradise, and everything within eight minutes' walk.

We spent 8 nights at the Hahns' Casa Tropical. Michael and Bertha were very friendly and took care of everything we needed or asked for. They speak German, Spanish, English and maybe a few more languages. Our apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. The casa is peaceful all day, and quiet at night, which we prefer. The pool is clean and refreshing, and gets good sun most of the day. Meals on the balcony provided a nice opportunity to mix with our neighbors and enjoy the lush tropical landscaping (plenty of room to eat in the apartment if you prefer privacy). Michael's suggestions on restaurants, shopping, activities and attractions were all very helpful, and he got us a nice discount on a group tour to one attraction. Most activities we did on our own, having rented a car. No problem parking on the street in front of the Casa Tropical. Driving in the DR demands full attention and high situational awareness. I'm used to US East Coast urban traffic, but the DR definitely steps up the game. The motos (small motorcycles and scooters used to transport individuals, entire families, an array of cargo including building supplies, 40 lb propane tanks, lumber, live chickens, and fare-paying riders) are everywhere from all directions. Taxis, vans and buses are cheap, and probably the better choice for most Norteamericanos.

No need to drive if you don't want to. Inside the gated community of Costambar is a nice beach, although a drive of an hour or more will get you to some nicer ones. There is a country club, which has monthly membership ($30) which allows affordable golf, pool, tennis and fitness center. Also in Costambar is Spa Maria, where I got a good massage while my wife got a pedicure and manicure. Jenny Supermarket sells most of what you would need. Four restaurants on the beach and several more between Hahns' and the gate. Everything within eight minute's walk. If we stay again in the Puerto Plata area, we would stay in Costambar, and if we stay in Costambar, it would be with the Hahns.

A hidden gem

We stayed here for only a week but enjoyed it very much. The house is partially hidden in a garden oasis. The tropical plants on the property are beautiful . Sitting around the pool , under the canopy is a great place to relax. We had the apartment with a full kitchen, dining area, spacious bathroom and bedroom. The kitchen was fully equipped and it would be easy to stay there for a month and cook all your meals. We ate our breakfast on the patio overlooking the garden and pool. Everything was well maintained and clean. The beach was a 3 minute walk and you could hear the roar of the waves from the house. Plenty of places on the beach for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Stop by Skippers for a Presidente. A great place to stay.

The gated beach front community of Costambar is ideally located between the town of Puerto Plata and Ocean World at Cofresi. The historical center of Puerto Plata can be reached by public transport from the Costambar entrance gate or by taxi in 5 minutes. Sosua and Cabarete is just a 40 minutes drive away. The cable car to Mount Isabel and the little National Park on the top is worth visiting.
