Overview

About the property

3-Bedroom Log Home on Historic Taunton Bay. Pets Should Feel Right at Home.

It's a 14-year old 3-bedroom log house, nestled among the evergreens, oaks, Harbor Seals, and Bald Eagles. Situated right on Taunton Bay. Nearly all the comforts of home here -- fridge, LP gas oven, microwave, piano, kayak, canoe, DVD/CD, fireplace, linens, W/D, and more stuff...not the least of which will be peace and quiet. About 45 min. from BHB/Acadia, 30 min. from Schoodic, and 3 hrs. from Baxter St. Park (and all the Moose). Hancock has three wonderful restaurants, incredible as that sounds. Ellsworth, the closest "town", has everything you'll need, and it's a not-too-close 8 miles away. What else can I tell you? Look at the photos and you'll see what awaits you. You'll have near total privacy, although you should be aware that I work in the cabin on the property from time to time. Also, pets are encouraged, not just permitted. Note: if you rent during the winter/early spring months, you WILL need a 4WD vehicle. Check-in time is 4:00-pm, check-out time is 10:30-am. Okay. Look forward to hearing from you. Peace, Gerry.

PS - Trump supporters should look for lodging elsewhere. I'm serious about this.

About Gerard "Gerry" Monteux

Hi. My name's Gerry Monteux. This is where I grew up and I can't say enough good things about it, but the first thing I'll mention is that it's the reason I do what I do now for a living. I'm a nature photographer and being here, being immersed in nature 24/7, convinced me to do what I do. This place tends to get in your blood and remain there. I need to let you know that if you stay here, I'll be working in the little cabin on the property. But don't freak out. You'll have tons of privacy, and might not even know I'm there. And should anything go wrong, I'm right there to take care of it.

Gerard "Gerry" Monteux purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Why Gerard "Gerry" Monteux chose Hancock

I built this house on the property where I grew up. It's my cathedral.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Away from 'most of it', peace and quiet, nature in abundance, Bar Harbor, Schoodic, Acadia all nearby, Plenty of restaurants and bars within reasonable driving distance, pets encouraged to come!

Fantastic, serene experience. Easy accessibility to activities. Highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic place to stay. The cabin/home has warm character, home comforts, great amenities, and terrific access to the great Maine outdoors. This location is right on the bay, and ready access to kayaks, canoes, etc. make casual water sports easy for the entire family. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are a quick 25-minute drive. Both are wonderful destinations, and it is nice having this home as a base. The owner, Gerry, is highly accommodating to ensure your stay is memorable. He provides great initial direction/instructions and is accessible if needed, however, he is practically invisible which permits you to have an intimate family vacation.

Wonderful home in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful waterfront cabin for three nights, and the only thing we wished for was more time! The home is located in a private, quiet area, with lovely water views from both the large deck and yard. Our group included four adults and two children and we were very comfortable within the space. Overall, we found the home to be even better than advertised, with everything needed for a relaxing and fun vacation. The kayaks were a great bonus, easily accessible after a short stair climb down to the beach. Gerry was a very responsive host, readily available as needed to answer any questions during our stay. We highly recommend this home and hope to visit again in the future!

Mouse poop!!!

  • 3 of 5

I read multiple reviews and I totally agree that Gerry is the nicest man. He has a beautiful home right on the ocean In a Bay Area off of the coast of Maine. There are kayaks that we could use right by his cabin and it was spacious. However when we opened the kitchen drawers and cupboards we found mice feces(yes mouse 💩? poop!!!) everywhere. Underneath the sink there were so many mouse turds it made me want to puke. I would clean them up and in the morning I notoced fresh ones!!!! 😩?😩?😩?Gerry is very nice, and the place is nice but until that gets taken care of I don’t feel anyone should stay there. It’s very concerning because mice carry over 50 diseases and I didn’t feel he was too concerned about it. Also the washing machine, the dishwasher, and the front door lock all did not work. It needed a thorough cleaning as well throughout the cabin. Location however was WONDERFUL and again Gerry was kind and friendly. We came to visit Acadia national Park and the location was not terribly far. Just wish it had been cleaner and that the mice were gone

Beautiful Log Cabin On The Water

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful, spacious and clean. The location was great too, right on the water in a quiet spot, yet close to all the area has to offer. We spent a lot of time at Acadia during our stay. We also drove up the coast to the border. Gerry was a gracious host, with helpful tips on things to do and restaurants in the area. Some of his artwork is displayed in the cabin, which we particularly enjoyed. We highly recommend it!

Beautiful area, peaceful and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

Gerry was a great host, helpful and accommodating. Though he was in a smaller cabin on the property, we didn’t even notice he was there! Cabin is very comfortable with everything you need. The area is just beautiful with much to do in and around Acadia. Highly recommend.

A Christmas to remember!

  • 5 of 5

What could be better than a white Christmas in a warm cozy log cabin? The place was picture perfect and we took plenty of pics. The cabin was adorable and the view was awesome! Can't wait to go back!
