San Pedro Villa Rental Photos and Description

4 or 5 Bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3 separate living areas perfect for multi-families

Discover the tranquility of your own Caribbean villa with its panoramic view of the sea. Relax in the privacy of your own swimming pool. Relax under your palapa to the rustling sound of the palm trees swaying above in the gentle breezes. Measure time…by sunrise and sunset.

Because of the beautiful and peaceful location of El Castillo de Arena, its thoughtful and handsome design and décor, and its overall commitment to excellence, the “Sandcastle” is regarded as one of Belize’s finest 4 or 5 bedroom oceanfront villas. This private home is located 5 miles north of San Pedro town in the sought-after Mata Grande area on beautiful Ambergris Caye, Belize.

By day, El Castillo de Arena is drenched in sunshine and the view from your villa and rooftop patio is of turquoise sea and the second largest barrier reef in the world. Take a quiet stroll down the beach, fish or snorkel off your own private pier or take a refreshing dip in your own pool on your 3rd floor patio after sunbathing.

At dusk as the sun sets and the lights slowly fade, the villa undergoes a magical transformation. Relax on the rooftop and watch some of the most beautiful flaming sunsets you will ever see. Further into the evening, have a romantic dinner while gazing at the stars that seem impossibly bright and close in the clear night sky or watch the passing cruise ships on the horizon.

INSIDE:

Winter months- 4 Bedrooms are available (Nov-Mar)

Summer months- 5 Bedrooms are available (Apr-Oct)

Inside this private home are 5 air conditioned bedrooms and sleeps up to 10 adults. The unique design of this villa features 3 separate units with 3 fully equipped kitchens and air conditioned living and dining areas for ultimate privacy for your multi-family vacation. Each unit is equipped with WiFi.

The upstairs unit features a spacious air conditioned great room with soaring ceilings. It is tastefully decorated with an earthy Mayan theme in rich jewel tones with comfortable rattan furniture and locally carved mahogany tables. For your entertainment, there is a 55" HD TV with over 100 cable channels, a DVD player and a Bose sound system. The beautifully designed fully-equipped kitchen has a dining and bar area that seats up to 10. The master bedroom with king bed and en-suite bathroom has its own HD television and DVD player. The 2nd bedroom has a king bed that can be converted to two twins for versatility. There is also a second full bathroom in the upstairs unit.

The downstairs unit features a living area decorated in tasteful casual elegance with ceiling fans, ceramic tiled floors and honey rattan furniture. Included is a 36” HD TV with local cable and DVD player. There is also an ever-growing video, book and game library. The dining table, along with the kitchen peninsula/bar that separates the kitchen from the living area, provide seating for seven. Each of the two cheerfully decorated air conditioned bedrooms feature large closets, ceiling fans and a king bed with under-bed drawer space that can be separated into two twin beds if desired. The full bath has brilliant white and cobalt blue ceramic tile decorated in bright “coral reef” colors.

Both kitchens have beautiful ceramic tile counter tops and are fully equipped with electric stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and a blender for those luscious tropical drinks. The Belizean Mahogany cupboards are filled with a tasteful collection of china, dinnerware, cooking supplies, utensils, linens and kitchen implements.

The third private unit is the honeymoon suite connected to the south side of the house. This newly constructed suite was just added for that extra needed bedroom. It features lofty ceilings and air conditioning. The great room has a living/dining area with HD TV with cable, and a kitchenette. The large air conditioned bedroom includes a queen bed and large closet. There is also a full bath. All kitchen amenities are included. During the winter months, the owners reside in this suite.

All towels, linens, iron/ironing board and a hairdryer are provided for your convenience. A washer/dryer is also available for use with a 7-night stay or longer.

OUTSIDE:

The 'Sunset Tower' is the third floor patio with a 360 degree view of paradise. Rejuvenate your body after soaking up the Caribbean sun with a refreshing plunge in the 4' deep dip pool. The patio furniture and table offer a wonderful spot for dining while viewing the beautiful turquoise Caribbean waters or breathtaking sunsets.

Large French doors from the living areas open to reveal beautiful views from the outdoor covered verandas with table and chairs where you can watch the sunrise over morning coffee. Enjoy direct access to the beach right out the door. Across the white sandy beach lies your private pier with swim deck, perfect for snorkeling, sunbathing or to try your luck at reeling in your fish dinner.

Also right on the beach is your own private thatch-roof palapa to keep you cool and shaded while sipping your favorite libation at the “Carpe Diem” bar. A warm-water shower to rinse off after your day’s excursions is conveniently located right outside your front door. Located in the tropically landscaped backyard is a BBQ grill to cook that fresh catch of the day.

About Carolyn

My husband and I live along the Kenai River in Alaska, surrounded by beautiful mountains, soaring eagles, splashing salmon and of course the occasional wandering moose and bear. We travel with our loving companions, Kenai and Moochez, our two dogs. Kenai is our black labrador/coonhound mix and Moochez is our Belizean 'potlicker' that we rescued from Belize. We live either upstairs or in the side suite of El Castillo de Arena during the winter months and look forward to meeting many of you during your stay.

Carolyn purchased this villa in 2002

Why Carolyn chose Ambergris Caye

We took our honeymoon to Ambergris Caye, Belize in March 2001 to get away from the cold arctic winter. Once there we instantly fell in love with Belize...the weather, the people, the beauty of the rainforest, the spectacular reef, etc. We instantly bought property and started building our retirement vacation home that year. We decided to share our wonderful home to fellow nature lovers who appreciate adventure and fun.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"After a long, snowy winter it has been amazing being here in Belize. Warm water, warm people and cold beer! The views from the roof were fantastic - night or day, and the pool was great.

The snorkeling at Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley was superb. There is so much to see and the coral, fish, sharks and eel dazzled!

From kayaking, snorkeling, drinking, dining and relaxing we had a wonderful and wonderfully warm trip. And last but not least - William - What an asset! He's helpful, warm and friendly and his easy laugh made us feel so welcome. We really loved his ceviche conche and can't wait to see him in Alaska to take him salmon fishing.

Thank you for making your home available to us! Back to the mud, slush and rain of "breakup"."

Returning to 'normal' was so hard after the "Sandcastle"

  • 5 of 5

I read the reviews thoroughly before finally deciding on this place,. It took us 12 hours to get there, but upon rounding the corner and seeing the first view of the pier and ocean, and then coming in to find not one but TWO gift baskets from Carolyn (one for the second arrivals in our group who would arrive the next day and stay downstairs), we knew we'd chosen the best. The main family room upstairs has high ceilings, is airy and opens onto the balcony...the beach activities from the rental hut made everything special, as we kayaked to the reef almost daily to snorkel, and my personal favorite was the stand up paddle board, which I used to cruise around the docks in our area.

And as so many people have said, William the caretaker rocks! He felt like family, but more importantly, he taught my 3 boys (one with special needs, 15, one just turned 18 and one 21) about making the most out of nature. He showed them spear fishing and how to catch fish (as he does daily) with a coke bottle wrapped with twine -- something endlessly fascinating to my husband who always goes. He also does wood carvings! We brought home a stunning sting ray and hammerhead shark sculpture, and coasters he signed for us. He also gave us his coconut demonstration -- how to break one open if you had to survive..and his key lime juice demonstration. Local honey, local brown sugar, key limes....YUM! Marvin, his friend, also helps out and we loved the dogs so much we brought them in to watch tv with us a couple of nights. :) Here's a YouTube video of the coconut demonstration, done inside the tiki hut bar in the yard: https://youtu.be/8spq4qqKhKw SIDE TRIPS: At Carolyn's recommendation, we used Seaduced for the Caye Caulker Day Sail ($100 per person, day trip) to go to Hol Chan, Shark & Ray Alley, and Caye Caulker. The guides were charming and knowledgeable and the infamous rum punch made for a very social group. We made sure to pick a day when cruise ships weren't in port. We used Caribbean Adventures to visit Altun Ha (we had the whole place to ourselves)and Cave Tubing in one day -- Cave Tubing was amazing. And...definitely call Aurora! She came to the house and made a grilled lobster/ribs feast that was less costly than any of the local restaurants. Mamba was our favorite, Rojo's was good: but fair warning - they are EXPENSIVE, as are all groceries. Tip: Using cash will save you 12.5% on tours.

This was a special house, lots of wonderful memories.

Perfect House for a Group!

  • 5 of 5

A group of 8 of us traveled (30 something) from Minnesota & California to Belize for a week in late January / Early February 2016 for some fun & sun. The property and house is beautiful and the owners (as well as manager Bill) were extremely helpful and friendly throughout the trip. The house has plenty of activities to enjoy at a moments notice (bikes, kayaks, bag toss, spikeball, hammocks, classes on coconuts, snorkeling gear, barbecue, etc etc). Comfotrably sleeps 6 (3 bedrooms x 2 people). The location is a bit north of town but is easily reachable with a golf cart or taxi. Several restaurants are within walking distance of the propery (Rojo Lounge, Akbar, Portofino). Bill and the owners were happy to help us arrange and recommend other activities away from the property (dinners, diving, taxis, sightseeing). The rooftop pool and view is amazing! I can't say enough about this property and the accomodating staff.

PROs: Amenities, staff, view, gear/activities, proximity to grocery, friendly animals

CONs: A bit far from town, but that made it peaceful and was part of the adventure!

San Pedro Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Overall: Castillo de Arena is the perfect spot for any group or family seeking a relaxing sunny getaway. With convenient beach rental access and short boat trip to the reef, all your water seeking adventures are satisfied.

House: 5 stars: The house easily fits 10 and also has a pull-out couch. The king-sized beds can be split into twins making it easy to adjust for couples or individuals sharing a room. The upstairs kitchen has a plethora of cooking equipment including ice maker which our group found essential.

Ambiance/Service: 5 stars. William is amazing. He helped out with household errands and our many questions. which we greatly appreciated. When it comes to beach rentals, including fishing spears, William was the man. Definitely get the 8 person float and join your friends or family together and enjoy a float just off the dock. Carolyn arranged to have greeting baskets in the house including coffee which was a major plus for all of us.

Definitely coming back.

Look no further

Absolutely perfect! We had a blissful, relaxing, incredibly fun week! The location is perfect - close enough to town and other amenities by golf cart, yet peaceful and within walking distance of several restaurants. The hosts Carolyn and Ted were on the property while we were here, but other than to meet our needs and arrange impromptu trips for us, you would not know they were on the property. We had complete privacy, including the pool. The grounds are lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed the use of the games and kayaks. As noted in every review, William the caretaker is wonderful. He keeps immaculate care of the grounds, is very friendly and willing to help out in any way. He gave us the coconut demo and made us the most delicious coconut rum drinks. I will never look at a coconut in the same way! If we are ever back in Belize, we will definitely stay here! Also, Carolyn, thank you for the celebratory champagne, it made us feel so welcome!

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just spent five days at Castillo de Arena, and absolutely loved it. The location is perfect - just far enough away from most of the resorts and town, but walking distance to a grocery store, spa and several bars and restaurants. Our scuba dive boat picked us up and dropped us off on the pier - couldn't be easier. We rented a golf cart to pick up groceries and check out restaurants. The views were incredible, and the house itself is wonderful. We loved the rooftop dipping pool, shaded terrace seats, and hanging out in the palapa. William was a huge help - there if we had a question or needed help, but not hovering over us. Ask him to do his coconut demo - it was great, and we made the best coconut rice afterward. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the house is set up to be relaxing and fun. We'll definitely come back!

Wonderful owner, beautiful beach...complete Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Definitly recommend this property 100%.

We enjoyed every inch of the property from playing corn hole ("bean bags") on the front beach, to lying on the dock, to dipping into the pool on the roof, to lounging and having happy hour in the palapa. We've been to Belize before, and this place was even better than where we had stayed in the past. One of the best beaches you will find of any property in Belize!

We had 8 people in our group (4 couples) and this place was perfect size for us. We all still had our own space but could hang out together on the beach, in the living room and used the kitchen to make drinks and meals.

Loved having access to the washer and dryer and the kayaks and bikes. Also loved the company of the house dogs who hung out with us during the day. Grocery store just minutes away (via golf cart or a long walk) which was very convenient. It takes about 20 minutes to get into the heart of San Pedro via golf cart which we found was eaters (and cheaper) than paying for the water taxi.

Carolyn was a great host. We forgot her and her husband were there because they stay out of your way but are around if you need something (she arranged a fishing boat for us which was very helpful.) The caretaker, William, is the best. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and he'll do anything to make your stay better. He even puts on a coconut demo and makes drinks for you with the juice of the coconut.

Cannot say enough good things about this place. We plan to stay here again when we visit Belize next time (and we'll be back soon!!!!)
