About Cathy Meek

Growing up in Austin when it was just a small city, the countryside was just minutes away. Then came Austin sprawl, and crazy traffic! We purchased the land outside Smithville in 2006, and slowly our little slice of heaven evolved into the Rocking M Ranch (RMR). These days the property is shared with visitors from all over that come to enjoy 'Real Country, Real Close.'

Cathy Meek purchased this chateau / country house in 2010

Why Cathy Meek chose Prairies & Lakes

The Rocking M Ranch is located in Bastrop County outside the City of Smithville and is in the heart of Central Texas, and three major cities. It is less than 1 hour from Austin, 2 hours from Houston, and 1 1/2 hours from San Antonio. The RMR is perfect for an overnight stay in conjunction with hosting a special wedding or event.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Guests here enjoy a morning stroll on the property with coffee or a glass of wine next to the pool while looking out over a backdrop of wildflowers in spring and summer. At night, roast s'mores and relax at the large firepit or grill under the quiet canvas of a million stars overhead. In addition to providing a spacious rental space for up to 15 overnight guests, the property is perfect for hosting on-site events.

Perfect getaway for friends and family

  • 5 of 5

This is simply the perfect property! Beautiful surroundings, every comfort of home, and swimming pool and hot tub to boot! It would be unnecessary to ever leave this wonderful property to have the perfect vacation! We did venture out to go in to Bastrop to do standup paddle boarding one day but other than that we enjoyed the outside and inside entertainment options in the house. Late night marshmallow roast on the fire pit and star gazing, for our final night, capped a perfect getaway~ We were a party of 4 adults and 8 teenagers. We will be coming back to enjoy this property for a more extended stay next time! Great communication with property owner, as one of our kids said we only had one problem - we are all of the delicious homemade brownies she left for us and wanted more! That pretty much sums up our stay, simply perfect and left us wanting to come back for more! ❤️

Love this place

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here several times over the past few years. It is always great. It is super clean and has everything you could want. Tons of beds and plenty of space. We only had 4 guys staying there and had more than enough room. We really enjoyed the pool/hot tub as well as the pool table (with ping pong table top). Pretty short drive to get back into Smithville downtown and enjoy the restaurants there. We even stopped by the Bone Spirits distillery for a tasting.

Plan to stay here again soon. Thanks for a great vacation!

IDEAL for hosting out of town wedding!

  • 5 of 5

Our son's wedding weekend was a big success thanks to our host Cathy. Since everyone was from out of town, the wedding party was able to stay together at this spacious, clean and comfortable home. We hosted the rehearsal dinner here also and it was the perfect set up for serving people and visiting. Cathy offered everything from the extra refrigerator space to the oversized salad bowl. The home is in a lovely, peaceful, country setting, less than 15 minutes from the wedding venue, Red Ridge Receptions, and even closer to Main St. Smithville. Our group enjoyed the pool table, the screened in porches, and the fire pit. There were plenty of beds and room to spread out. The bride and her bridal party benefitted from the oversized master bath and closet space, especially while having their hair and make up done. The owners went out of their way to assist us and lend a helping hand.

***Amazing Property and Hosts***

  • 5 of 5

I have only stellar comments for the hosts and the Rocking M Ranch! We found the property to be exactly as described and it had everything we needed to host a gathering prior to my daughters wedding, along with birthday celebrations over the weekend and sleep everyone very comfortably. There was an issue with the pool and hot tub when we first arrived, but the hosts communicated with us very well and the issue was resolved in the time frame promised and we were able to enjoy both! The one thing the description is missing is how incredible the hosts are! Great communication before and during our stay. I will definitely consider this property in the future for our small group, family gatherings or just when we need a get-away and will recommend it to others.

The Best place to be !

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th annual girls trip to Smithville. We love this house and everything about the property. We relax in the pool all day and cook and play games in the evening. Coffee on the back porch in the morning is wonderful. Cathy always makes sure we have what we need and treats us like family. Thanks for another wonderful relaxing weekend, can't wait to come back next year !

P.S. Be sure to check out Bone Spirits Distillery in Smithville.
