Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom Close To The Beach

Want to experience Venice Beach? The real Venice? This bright 1908 bungalow is a throwback to the early days of Hollywood, when the first scions of modern cinema took to the beach to escape the heat of industrial Los Angeles in Venice Beach, where it’s always, well, cool. Even when it’s hot. This is the ultimate retreat in beach living. Loaded with old L.A. charm but fully updated with modern perks (including high-speed internet, satellite T.V., ADT security system and remodeled kitchen/bath), you could easily pass your days lounging in one of the property’s two outdoor terraces, either relaxing on a rope swing in the expansive front yard or perfecting your riffs in the cozy ivy-encased niche at the back. You certainly wouldn’t be blamed for being anti-social. But if you wanted to dip your toes into Venice’s social waters, well, it’s right there for the taking. A mere block away from L.A.’s “white hot” Rose Avenue, complete with world-class restaurants, juiceries, boutiques, the city’s most iconic coffee shop and a Whole Foods to boot, this little stretch of Venice is buzzing for a reason. (Google it…!). Straddling Santa Monica and Venice we’re an easy walk from Abbot Kinney Blvd (GQ Mag’s “Coolest Street In America”) and the country’s most memorable stretch of beachfront, with classic cruiser bikes at the disposal if the short walk seems insurmountable. Okay, we’ll give you the details in a second, but let us first say this: no matter where you come from, this WILL be the best summer of your life. Hardwood/private gardens, linens/towels, flat screen satellite tv, fiberoptic internet connection, washer/dryer, queen/two twins, security coded access. You’ll want to catch a sunset in Venice. Trust us.

We did feel at home from the very first moment

  • 5 of 5

Don't expect everything to be perfect - and you will be happy to find a very friendly, welcoming and cozy bungalow, a quiet place for your stay. All of us (parents and 16 years old son) enjoyed every minute in this house, which is very well located, and we had a great stay. We did not meet Sonya, but communication with her was easy, and she was very friendly and helpful, flexible concerning our date of arrival and checkout time. Thanks!

A warm and cozy nest, ideal for a short stay in a trendy and comfortable neighbourghood!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a cozy nest for those who loves to be in a trendy area, having great food, love shopping and having long walks on the beach. This comfy home has a great atmosphere that makes you feel very welcome instantly. It's clean and convenient. The rooms are spacious and the little front yard is ideal to sit in if you need some me-time (reading a book, playing games on the mobile...). I would absolutely recommend it to all my friends! Sonya is great, she responded always in within an hour. In one sentence: we had a great time at the cottage!

If you enjoy walking to great food, beach and experiencing the true vibe of Venice, this is for you.

  • 4 of 5

Besides the mold in the tub/shower, the very loud squeaky fan in the master bdrm, and the broken bike seat (which would not stop sliding back), the place was adorable!

My husband and I were seeking a romantic vacation away from the hotels in Santa Monica (which we had stayed in previously). This bungalow is very cute, well lit, and equipped with everything you will need. The owner, Sonya, came by to introduce herself and we found her to be warm and friendly.

Our favorite things about her bungalow: 1) Conveniently located around the corner from Rose Ave., 8 block easy walk to the beach.

2) Very close (2-3 blocks) to Whole Foods, Pono Restauraunt which we found to have the BEST GLUTEN FREE burger BUNS and fries we have EVER tasted. Coffee/tea is right around the corner at Groundwork coffee shop, and they bake on premises the most delicious, healthy ,GLUTEN FREE blueberry and thyme muffins!

3) Sonya's gas stove, large washer and dryer (which REALLY came in handy after the beach) and cute sun porch (kids room) were our favorite parts of the house. The seating and dining set up is comfortable and inviting.

4) We felt safe amongst the locals with her security set up and it has the most adorable private front courtyard.

5) The large tree in the front with the heart, spoke to us, and she has beautiful plants surrounding the bungalow.

Charming and welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a comfortable and lovely place! We kept the windows open the whole time. It was great waking up in the comfy bed with the cool, crisp air all around us. We loved the swings in the private front yard! All the comforts of home. Highly recommend. Very good communication and easy instructions. Walk two short blocks to Whole Foods or a great little breakfast spot, Groundwork Coffee Co, right around the corner.

Deception

  • 2 of 5

We made a reservation in April and the landlord contacted us in June and proposed to change the property . Same location but bigger house with a garage, sounds good for us!!

In fact we were very disappointed. The landlords have just moved and the house and closets were still full of their stuffs. The kitchen utensils and the domestic appliance were below standards ( micro wave damaged, archaic toaster and coffee machine, plastic plates!!). Even the garden furniture was ruined.

The positive aspect is the location, close to the beach and Abbot Kinney. It is very convenient to have a garage and the house is big but we do not recommand this place.

Owner's Response: Hi Murielle, I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay at our home. I had moved another bigger family with 4+ people to the back house (our actual home) the month before you and they appreciated the additional 300 square feet of space and the garage studio. I left the place exactly the same for you thinking that it would be suitable for another guest. There were plenty of ceramic plates in addition to the plastic ones. The microwave and toaster are ones we've used for years and they work great. I am sorry about not having a coffee machine besides the Nespresso, I wish you had told me to bring you one. I would've brought one right away. No one usually makes coffee because Groundworks is 1 block away and such a Venice landmark. Yes, there were a few things in the closet but keep in mind, you were renting someone's home, not a hotel. Best, Sonya

Amazing location, gorgeous cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Sonya and Chris's Venice cottage for a month. It was such a blissful experience. They were such amazing hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. The location is perfect. Near enough to the beach as well as all the cool restaurants and bars of Rose and Abbott Kinney. The cottage itself was great. So full of character and cool interior flourishes. There were 4 of us, me, my husband and two young boys. It was the perfect size and had a well equipped kitchen. I would highly recommend staying here.
