Brenda & Russ have travelled the world and incorporated art and design ideas into the development and building of this magical getaway. purchased this estate in 2006

Why chose Big Rideau Lake

We discovered this magical location while traveling by boat through the Rideau Canal system, recently declared a UNESCO Heritage Site, and also within a recognized World Biosphere.

What makes this area so unique in the world is the spectacular quality of the water, a spring fed system that sits at the top of the lock system, draining towards Kingston and Ottawa, respectively.

What makes this estate unique

Privacy, rustic luxury, and exquisite South American decor, art and outstanding photography, makes this property very unique.

Mexican Saltillo tiles, an extremely unique Talavera tiled guest bathroom, extraordinary Chef Kitchen, Beautiful Spa with Endless Pool and Sauna, Music Station with drum kit, keyboard, and Karaoke, gorgeous post and beam, and one of the most spectacular views on the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were so pleased with our accommodations at Winking Rosebud retreat. We were celebrating our 50th anniversary with all our family. There was something for everyone. We had karaoke competitions between the generations.Needless to say to much laughter. The extra cottage allowed for an escape for the grandparents at night. The children loved the raft and row boat and spent hours playing at the beach. The boat house gave them a hiding place as well.We were able to eat as a group and found we were well supplied to accommodate our numbers. The tranquil setting was ideal for family time. Proximity to Ottawa and the small towns gave us our rainy day get away. All in all great memories for this family. Ann and Mike P. and family

There's no place like The Winking Rosebud

  • 5 of 5

This is my second year at Winking Rosebud and I have been amazed again at how much attention not only goes into the property, but into the level of customer service as well. Brenda is always a pleasure to deal with and goes out of her way to make your stay warm and welcome. Her team is always there to greet you and make you feel right at home. Looking forward to many more stays

Perfect setting for an anniversary party

  • 5 of 5

The setting was perfect for celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. We had several couples threaten to move in permanently.

The lake is lovely, the view astounding, the facilities were excellent and the decor exotic.

Everything we needed was there: dishes, glasses, canoes, and kayaks. Brenda and Russell were great, as was Karen the manager when she gave me a tour in February.

A few comments from our guests for the weekend:

"Thanks to all of you for finding just a beautiful spot to spend with friends. We thought the accommodations couldn’t have been better. The weather was very co-operative as well."

"I was so looking forward to it and was not disappointed. You couldn't have picked a better place. It was beautiful."

"What a wonderful location. We miss it already. I think we’re both in withdrawal."

Fall visit 2016

  • 5 of 5

It was a rainy weekend, so we couldn't enjoy the lake. Luckily the grounds are so big and fantastic, that we had enough to do inside.

I stayed in the guest cabin which was well heated , and had a view of the lake. It was nice to have a covered balcony as well!

The music is spread through the main cottage, and the kitchen was fully stocked with any appliance you could think of! The kitchen was a great communal area to gather and cook! For a fall visit it was better than I expected and even there was a great tv , we didn't even need to watch it!

Great weekend, I hope I can visit again!

Also the contacts for the rental were very professional and prompt!

See you again!

Excellent in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented The Winking Rosebud Retreat for a 50th birthday celebration. We thoroughly enjoyed the open concept kitchen. Was perfect for group cooking. The accommodations were more than adequate for couples and we enjoyed the large bonfire pit and kayaks available for use. Brenda was very helpful and awesome to deal with. I would definitely recommend this property and hope to make a return trip myself some day.

Our stay at The Winking Rosebud was absolutely perfect. We had 32 people for a women's retreat and everyone loved the space. The open concept kitchen was great for group cooking, and the lake was amazing. The one thing to consider is that the loft (which sleeps about 8), is in the main house, where the kitchen is, therefore for large groups, people should be notified of sound.

The main cottage has a very eclectic and homey ambiance, but feels grand, as the architecture is beautiful with extremely high ceilings and a large stone fireplace.

I highly recommend this place, as well as Brenda and her partner as they are absolutely lovely and were extremely helpful throughout our stay.

Thank you so much, we look forward to next year!

Beautiful Property with Unique Charm

  • 5 of 5

A group of us stayed at The Winking Rosebud and were absolutely blown away with the property. Situated on a large piece of land, the property has 4 different cottages to choose from. Brenda was beyond pleasant to deal with and always was quick to respond. The main cottage ads a unique feel with it's decor and set up. Definitely renting again and highly recommend
