Cozy, comfortable and great hosts.
We love staying here. We returned home to the East side of Indianapolis for the holidays and wanted to stay in a place that reminded us of the Indiana countryside well at the same time kept us close to family and Indianapolis. This cottage is perfect for my husband and I with our sons 20 and 16.
It was a bit cold for a bonfire or to use the canoes for the pond. But we enjoyed those on a previous trip during the spring time. If we come back to Indiana next year for the winter holidays I hope it is available again. And, I hope to come back in the spring or summer so I can have my bonfire and my time out on the pond.
The hosts are great they land we were taking a red eye and having an early arrival at the Indianapolis airport. They had a variety of got breakfast foods so we have something to eat when we got to there. They’re friendly and always ask if we need anything when we run into them. They definitely show the best of Hoosier hospitality.
We'll definitely be back!
This cottage is so cozy and charming, and the hosts are so lovely. They left out fresh cookies for us at check-in and made sure we had age-appropriate toys on hand for our preschooler. The property is easy to find, and the location was perfect for what we needed. It comes with tons of charming amenities (a canoe for the pond, a fire pit with chopped wood waiting) and makes a perfect quiet getaway!
I would highly recommend this cottage if your in the Indianapolis area. The cottage is so cozy and equipped with everything you need for your stay. If we had not had places we had to be, we would have never left the cottage!!
Best VRBO Ever
Immaculate! Charming home! Beautiful lake! Perfect location, just outside the hustle and bustle of Indianapolis. Thank you, Larry & Margo, for your hospitality and the chocolate chip cookies!
So close to home, glad we found this gem.
We had a wonderful time at Buck Creek Cottage. This place has everything you need to cook with, although we only cooked breakfast. After 20 years of cooking for the public,it was nice to just get away. Numerous restaurants near by. Larry and Margo excellent hosts. Margo’s peanut butter chocolate chip cookies are out of this world!! We have been to numerous places like this over the years but this beats them all! Larry,I’m glad you didn’t find a lot of Wyatt’s fur balls, lol! Thank you for such a great stay.
Buck Creek Cottage is located on Indianapolis's far east side. Google maps will bring you to our driveway and you'll see the main house as shown in the photos. Buck Creek Cottage sits fifty yards behind the main house right next to our lake.

About Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner
This property has been an ongoing project since we bought it in 1983. Over the years we have added the guest cottage, the two acre stocked lake, and a substantial addition to the main residence. These additions were intended to help induce our children, once adults, to visit often. They visit when they can, but the closest one lives over five hours away, so frequent visits are not practical. So here we sit with a huge main house, a lovely guest cottage and wonderful grounds, lake and gardens and not nearly enough visitors enjoying them. The income from the rentals will help maintain the estate and the interaction with our renters, if so desired, will help maintain our sanity. I've lived in Indianapolis all my life and my wife has lived in the area since she started teaching in 1976. We love the area and we think we can help make your visit, whether business or pleasure, a more enjoyable one.

Why Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner chose Indianapolis
Our property is located near Cumberland, Indiana, apparently the first stage coach stop east of Indianapolis on what became the Cumberland Road. Originally part of a forty-five acre farm owned by one of Cumberland's first merchants, in the late twenties the property was divided into five parcels. When we bought the property in the early eighties we thought it would be a nice place to live. With all the improvements we have made over the years, we now think it's also a great place to visit. Apparently our nieces and nephews agree, as they nicknamed the property 'Larryland'. And while, like our children, they are now adults, they still look forward to visiting 'Larryland' during both summer and winter holidays.
What makes this Cottage unique
As the pictures illustrate, we maintain our residence on the grounds where Buck Creek Cottage is located. While we won't necessarily be around all the time we will be available when you first check in, assuming you have been able to give us a reasonable arrival time window. We will certainly find time early in your stay to answer any questions you may have about Indianapolis' shopping, attractions and restaurants.
