About Lorie Wiebrecht

I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could!

Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.'

We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years.

My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine once it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least!

He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages.

Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!

Lorie Wiebrecht purchased this house in 2007

Layout is perfect for parents of young children!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the birches. It was comfortable, clean, and charming.

The layout of the house is great for parents with young children. Our kids (8 and 5) stayed in the back bedroom which is far enough away from the living room where the adults can chat after the kids go to bed.

Lorie, the host is super accommodating and made things easy. The house had everything we needed and everything was stored so it was easy to find! This was our first time renting a home and we think we were spoiled with such a great experience- it will be hard to top!

Owner's Response: Wow! These guests just left this morning and I already have a very sweet review! I love to hear that our vacation rental enhanced the family's experience! And it is especially satisfying when this is the first time that they have tried the vacation rental alternative and THEY LOVED IT!! I try to stock our rentals (we have 3 now!) so that a family of any makeup has what they might need and enjoy. Great books, good TVs and strong Wi-Fi plus a well-stocked kitchen and plenty of nice linens for the adults AND games, puzzles, books and toys for the kids! It is fun to anticipate the needs of my guests and to add those things to the home even before they know that they might need them! If you would like to discuss a reservation in one of our rentals please call/email or text Lorie. Happy Vacationing!

Could not have been better!

  • 5 of 5

This home away from home had everything we needed and more! The cottage is decorated beautifully, clean as can be and we look forward to staying there again. The seclusion and the short distance from the park and Bar Harbor is about as perfect as can be for a vacation that gives you space and peace while being close to the "action". We were provided some great travel tips from our owner and the previous guests in the comments written in the guest book which was much appreciated since this was our first trip to Maine.

You cannot go wrong with this property!

Wonderful Stay At A Most Welcoming Place

  • 5 of 5

Earlier this month my wife and I stayed at the Birches for our first visit to Maine (which was the 50th state we've been to). This place is by far one of the cleanest and most complete units we have ever seen. It had everything we needed and is so comfortable. Would certainly stay here again if the opportunity occurs. Comfortable beds, good working washer, dryer, gas grill, dishwasher, etc. Location is extremely quiet. Everything on one level.

Excellent Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

The Birches is a great place to stay. It is clean and cozy and extremely comfortable. It is a convenient driving distance from all the sites on the Island but it is quiet and peaceful. We even had a deer in our yard on two mornings. The house is stocked with anything you need to make your stay comfortable. The owners are easy to work with and accommodating. I can't recommend this place highly enough. If I return to Bar Harbor I will stay here again.

Perfect Get Away.....

  • 5 of 5

We loved The Birches at Acadia! It is remote, but not too far away. Just minutes to restaurants, quaint Bar Harbor, lobster shacks and of course Acadia National Park. Lorie was great to work with and promptly refunded the security deposit. The house was perfect for us and our son, who left mid week, so then we had a nice quiet time.....just us and the deer and bunnies! We ate out more than we planned, but were pleasantly surprised at how well the kitchen was equipped. We usually do a lot of cooking & this kitchen was much better than some NC & FL beach rentals we have used. (our first time to ME, so had to experience as much of the local food as possible!) We flew into Boston & spent time there & then drove up the coast----Lorie sent us excellent directions & full of places to stop at along the way. Freeport is a MUST!

Thank you so much for sharing your vacation home with us!

Owner's Response: HAPPY GUESTS=Happy vacation rental OWNERS!!! :-) I am glad that this guest mentioned the return of the security deposit. It is my goal to put the security deposit in the mail 24-48 hours after your departure. The best result for me is when the deposit beats the guests home! It is very important to the overall health of the vacation rental business that the guest has a high level of trust regarding the property owner and the rental process itself. Yes, it is true that I am entrusting my very large investment with them however they are trusting me to have business practices that are based on integrity and respect. That is MY driving force and I want ALL guests to experience that! When the guest is happy and trusts you they want to come back again and again and when they do that you know for sure that you have been successful! I am pleased to report that I enjoy that result in my business year after year! I know that this is a rather personal response to a review-I usually share some of the great amenities that we offer! But this time...I am taking the opportunity to let YOU, the potential guest, know that I will take great care of you and your family and treat you with the highest regard! Feel free to call me so that we can discuss your Magical Maine Vacation! Thank you~Lorie 410-268-6410 hm/410-279-7875 cell

Wonderful location. Well maintained property.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a fantastic stay at the Birches. The owner is super easy and nice to work with. It is truly a gem for people who are visiting the Acadia National Park and its nearby towns. The property is well stocked, clean, and centrally located to the Park and other points of interest. We also really loved it for the privacy it offers. It was truly a great "home away from home" experience for us, especially after a long activity-filled day at the Park!

Owner's Response: I know that they had a great time staying at THE BIRCHES! And they sent me gorgeous pictures of the night sky to prove it! They brought their telescope and I was astounded by the views that they captured after dark. I am used to seeing the daytime pictures of our beautiful ACADIA of course but I have never seen pictures taken from my own property during the night. Nothing more cool than seeing the milky way and so many stars! The pictures are fabulous~thank you!!! When you live in a relatively urban area you can't get too far away from street lights and signs and all ways that those places are perpetually lit. It is such a wonderful experience when you can go to a place where the preservation of nature and solitude is paramount-it can be a very healthy and soothing experience. can get some really DARK nights which are great for taking pictures through telescopes! Come to Bar Harbor and stay at THE BIRCHES where you can relax after a great day of exploring Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island. You will LOVE it!
