About this property

Nine private acres - Sleeps 8 comfortably - expandable to 18

With close access to the Big Lake recreation area, the property offers a quiet wooded escape with a wrap around deck overlooking Meadows Creek, one of Alaska's anadromous salmon bearing streams.

Being on Meadows creek, "Fort Alaska" is a natural home to moose, river otter, trout, and salmon. Fish and kayak Meadows Creek within 100 feet of the unit. Situated on a private 9 acre parcel bordered by state owned 400 acre undeveloped forest.

The property offers the wild feel of Alaska yet is in close proximity to Big Lake and Wasilla. The paved road offers year-round access to Alaskan adventure but being a private 9 acre compound you have your own space to enjoy. Our quote includes a fee for kayaks, bikes, other toys and a small freezer for the storage of your fish.

With modern comforts and upgrades completed this single unit can be expanded and opened up to be a large double unit. To reserve this as a double unit to sleep up to 18 people please send an inquiry. Fort Alaska provides a nice location to relax and call your outpost to adventure. In Spring of 2024 the second unit can be rented to allow larger parties to stay together, however, it is NEVER rented to separate parties at the same time.
The property was originally built as the "Big Lake Fish Hatchery".
Today some of the historic hatchery still remains but the property has been upgraded to include comfortable natural gas central heating to keep you warm year round and designed to be business traveler friendly with independent Wifi.

Can't say enough great things about this fabulous property. We are a family of three but it can easily accommodate a larger party and not feel crowded. Quiet, cozy and super clean with everything you could possibly need, I really appreciated the well stocked kitchen and extra towels and wash clothes. Washer and dryer definitely came in handy after our more adventurous activities. Beds were comfortable and property offers fun activities itself, we enjoyed the kayaks, trails, fishing poles and fire pit. The view of the creek from the deck is peaceful and relaxing, especially at the end of the day with a nice glass of wine. Great location for both local amenities (groceries and such) as well as day excursions, we enjoyed trips to Matanuska Glacier, hiking at Eklutna Lake, bear viewing tour from Anchorage, a day in Whittier and quick trip to Talkeetna. Local restaurants are worth a try, we recommend the Susitna Brewing Company, excellent selection of food and beer with a lake view. Great communication with the owners (which I find rare these days) who answered all of our questions and even provided coffee, muffins and scones which tasted great and were much appreciated. You know you have found the perfect rental property when you refer to it as "home" by day two. Stop looking and book this property now, you will not regret it!

Beautiful home/cabin north of Wasilla.

Accommodations were all top of the line, from the appliances to the comfy beds to the thick carpeting, everything looked brand new. Great family set-up. Beautiful backyard with fire pit, gas grill and gazebo with table, chairs and picnic table. Gentle running creek is a nice accent. Fast responses from the host, Carrie, she made sure we had everything we needed. We used Fort Alaska as our home base from which to go on our daily adventures. Hatcher Pass and Eklutna Lake were two of our favorite places. Floaters Restaurant, nearby has great food!
