Unique house well situated would stay there again.

  • 4 of 5

This was the first time renting a house on Chincoteague. The house was well situated, walking distance from Main Street and the gift shops, grocery store and some restaurants. The Island Creamery was a 15 min. walk. Neighborhood seemed safe and quiet... firehouse whistle blew only 3 times in 7 days. Once was at 3 am but who cares your at the beach. The house was clean and spacious with a nice yard and back porch. There were a couple oddities about the house: the floors are uneven. Throw you off balance when you first get up in the morning.(Kinda makes you laugh) There wasn't enough drawer space in the bedroom up stairs. We had three females and only one had space to unpack. All the closet space was used for the owners storage space. Of 13 bikes only one was usable. Best to take your own bikes because the location of the house is perfect for biking. Not much car traffic so very safe. Sweet place, I'd rent it again. Side note: It was the pony swim/penning walked to the fair grounds to see the ponies and partake of the fair ground food and rides. Perfect vacation.

Great for a week away!!

  • 4 of 5

We had an ant problem the day after arriving and had to throw out much of the food we had just bought. Upon calling the maintenance number we were told that this is a common problem and all food should be kept in the fridge or a tote. They did come and spray and we bought any traps which helped. It would've been nice if this was mentioned from the start so we wouldn't have wasted so much money on groceries but other than that the house was great!! The kids loved the bikes and beach supplies in the garage and we were happy to not have to bring these things with us! Kitchen was well stocked and there was a grocery store on the next street over which was super handy. Hoping to return next year!!

Convenient location

  • 4 of 5

While the house could use a little TLC, it served as a great house for the weekend. The property manager was extraordinarily attentive with our request to have the furnace turned on for the unexpected cooler temps.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

Bright, sunny and spacious! We enjoyed the many amenities this home offers. Full kitchen with washer and dryer. Books, games, puzzles, TV's, WIFI, bicycles and kayaks. Grocery store, restaurants, and shops in walking distance and just a short drive to the public beach. We're looking forward to our next stay !

Do not consider this house for your stay!

  • 1 of 5

This house was in complete disrepair, I am shocked and in disbelief that anyone would have positive things to say about it. When I was reading the reviews I saw a couple of negative reviews, but there had been positive ones since, so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the previous issues had been fixed. That was a terrible mistake on my part. I have detailed pictures of everything but if there isn't a way to post them with my review, I will be leaving a review of this home on tripadvisor as well and you can view the photos there if you care to. I live in a house that is almost 100 years old, I appreciate and adore older homes, the conditions of this house are not complaints about the house being older. It was deplorable. Water was leaking down the inside of the walls and running down the floor. There was no rain, it had to be a pipe. I emailed this to the owner with the terrible condition we found the house to be in as well as the leaking water and he said that he just had the roof fixed, but the leak wasn't due to a leaky roof. Paint was bubbling and peeling off the walls and laying on the floor, most of the ceilings on the main floor had huge water stains covering them, the floors had not been vacuumed or cleaned in any way, there's a large stain on the living room rug (pet urine I suspect), crusted stained pillows on the living room couch, dead bugs along every wall, ants were EVERYwhere in the kitchen and floors of the living room nonstop and bugs of every species in general could be found.Trying to make the best of it, I spent my first full day of vacation cleaning and bleaching the house. The vacuum cleaners at the house just spit the dirt, paint chips and bugs all over the hard floors so the owners promptly sent over a new vacuum for me. To be fair I emailed the owners immediately with how upset and disgusted we were with the house condition. They said the cleaning crew would come the next day again, but I had already fully cleaned the house. There were plug in air fresheners in every room that I had to remove because they give me terrible headaches. It didn't take long for the strong urine smell to take over after that.Because of everything listed, none of us wanted to eat or cook in the house despite having brought food for the entire week as we always do. We spent an additional, and unexpected $800+ on eating out for our family of 5. It was the worst experience we have ever had, no refund was offered of any kind.

Great property with comfortable character!

  • 5 of 5

We had 4 adults, 2 children, and a Labrador Retriever, and we all enjoyed the house very much. We stayed for a week in late August, and got incredibly lucky with fantastic weather. We were very appreciative of the fenced back yard, and the home had a light and comfortable feel. Lots of natural light, plenty of window AC units, and a well-stocked kitchen. The house has places that aren't level, and corners that show wear, but nothing you wouldn't expect, and nothing that bothered us in the slightest. Very clean and well kept place.

If we do come back to Chinoteague, we'd be very likely to stay in this house again. And having the islands oldest ice cream parlor (Muller's) right across the street is not to be beat! :-)
