About the property

Everyone says, 'WOW what a GREAT view' we have of the lake and we are only 40 feet from the water. Our home is well equipped and conducive to a comfortable stay. Enjoy our wrap around deck for relaxing or dining. The open airy living room/dining room combination with cathedral ceilings also features a full size wood fireplace for those cool summer evenings.

Stroll down to the lake to enjoy sunbathing or fishing from the large dock. Or canoe or kayak on the lake. The fishing is excellent and we have caught lake trout, large and small mouth bass.

The house is located on a quiet private road. It has a queen size bed in the master bedroom, a queen bed in one guest room and 2 twin beds in the second guest room.

Minutes from Monument Mountain and the Appalachian Trail for great day hikes. And we are close to Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, and other cultural attractions as well as outlet shopping and other entertainment events.

Beautiful lakefront home!

  • 5 of 5

The lake house is wonderful with perfect views of Lake Garfield. The large deck allows room for everyone to enjoy the view. The dock is perfect to bring your boat up for the week and enjoy fishing on the lake. The grill and fire pit are also excellent! I can't say enough great things about this home. This year there is even a Keurig added in the kitchen, although I do love that while I am here I have the time to brew a fresh pot of coffee every morning. I always look forward to returning each year.

Relaxation to the MAX

  • 5 of 5

This is my 3rd time staying at this lake house and we obsoletely love it. Lake Garfield is just an amazing lake and the location of this house is perfect. I believe it is in the quietest part of the lake that provides you with the feel as you're almost on your own island. The view of the lake from the porch is just breathtaking and being able to have your morning coffee or nighttime tea on the porch with this view is so relaxing that you will want to come back and stay here again and again (that’s what happened to me). The house is beautifully furnished and has everything that you need. The owner updated the kitchen cabinets this spring and IM IN LOVE WITH THEM. What else is there to do there besides the lake you ask? (I mean do you need anything else?) The lake house is walking distance to the general store and library (my son loves going to library to pick out some movies and books-this way we don’t have to pack any of that stuff). You can take a quick drive to Monument Mountain for an awesome day of hiking (best workout ever!!!) Also, if you love strolling around small towns and exploring some great little shops, Great Barrington and Lee are your neighboring towns and spots just for that. Want to head out for a nice dinner or a quick bite to eat; you will not be disappointment in the restaurant choices there either. But if you're a real shopaholic, the Lee Outlets are just 20 minutes away or so and have a HUGE selection of stores. There is a little beach waking distance as well that you can enjoy but honestly the dock at the bottom of this lake works fine for me and my family. I mean this spot is just a win win no matter which way you look at it. The price is so affordable for everything you get and for everything surrounding the lake house. The house is always super clean and the property is kept up very nicely. I’m in the process of booking my next stay. The owner/manager of this property is very pleasant to talk to and very accommodating and friendly. This is a winner.

Love this place

  • 5 of 5

Just booked this beautiful home for my third straight summer for next July. My family and I love this home.

The porch is outrageous. Nothing like sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee and looking at pristine Garfield Lake, which is a stones throw from the porch.

The back yard include a an excellent gas grill, a fire pit and your own dock for swimming or sunning. Kayaks , canoes and a rowboat are available. The lake is very shallow and beautiful.

The house is very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped, but you might want to bring your own Keurig. There is air conditioning but at night the mountain breeze is delightful.

Monterey is a great, one horse town. The General Store is maybe a mile away with great baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, newspapers and groceries. A help yourself farm stand is 2 miles away and the wonderful Roadside Cafe is less than 10 minutes away.

Close to Great Barrington, Lee,Lenox and so many attractions. My serenity spot. Even my dog loves it!

Lovely view.

  • 3 of 5

I've been renting on Garfield for three years and on another lake nearby for 30 years. I thought that the cottage was in a nice location and had a great porch with a lovely view. The negatives are, it is small so don't try to have a bunch of guests. The kitchen table seats four. You CAN get a few more at the nice table on the porch. Technically, there are two bathrooms but the second bathroom is in the basement level, which is unfinished and kind of a mess. I let my husband use it occasionally. No one could sleep down there, very musty, too. Not finished. It COULd be nice if the owner decides to fix it up. It was great that there were kayaks there and a couple of canoes. However, maybe it's just 2016, BUT no one has mentioned in the reviews how icky the water is from the shore and the dock. So bad that I went in it only twice and my husband refused to go in at all. We went to the little public beach instead, which was very nice. But a big part of why we rent on the lake is so we can not just look at it but use it right from the cottage. That was a huge disappointment for us. I think that the quiet cove that the house is on may be a contributing factor in the milfoil, weeds and muck all over. Not only that but there is a weird tarp staked down in the water that feels like a spongy trampoline under your feet. I've never experienced anything like it before. The property is well maintained, although my daughter told me her room wasn't dusted at all, so she did it when we got there. Monterey is a great little town, the lake is pretty, the bedrooms were small but fine and people are very friendly. Nice neighbor, too. I think it would depend on what you are looking for. I've rented so many years that I have certain expectations: I want a larger table to eat at, maybe a half bath if not two full baths, and most of all, a nice clean lake to seem in. If you are a small group and don't mind driving over to the public beach, it's fine.

We spent a week here with our son, daughter-in-law and twin 7-year old grandsons. The house is clean, well cared-for and comfortable. Lots of windows with good ventilation and natural light. The front porch has a nice roof overhang that makes it a great place for al fresco meals or games or hanging out in wet weather. Beds are comfy. Having 2 bathrooms is a plus with that many people in the house. Bring your own body wash and shampoo. Kitchen is in good shape, with a fridge, range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and Mr. Coffee that takes ground coffee. (Don't expect to use your K-cups.) Washer and dryer in the basement. There is a TV and a satellite dish, but there was no signal while we were there. As a backup, there are a ton of DVDs for movies.

Lake Garfield is beautiful. Not very deep. Has a fair amount of bottom vegetation - but pretty good fishing and wonderful for boating - kayaks to powerboats. In front of this property, the lake is shallow and doesn't lend itself to diving or jumping off the dock. But the dock is a great place to sit and enjoy morning coffee.

There are two canoes and, I think, 3 kayaks. (We brought our own kayaks.) There's also a small aluminum rowboat that would be a good fishing platform.

There is a nice 4 burner gas grill and a firepit. Make sure to pick up dry firewood at the Monterey General Store downtown on the way to the place. DO NOT BRING FIREWOOD FROM OUT OF STATE. Massachusetts does not want you to accidentally import the invasive Emerald Ash Borer with firewood you bring from home!

I'm told AT&T phones work OK here. We have Verizon. Service at 1 bar is sporadic - and forget about 4G ... BUT isn't that why you go on vacation? to get AWAY from the darned thing?
