Overview

About the property

This home is only rented to one guest per month to comply with Hawaii laws.

Enjoy the island lifestyle in this beautiful beach house that sits on the Pacific Ocean. Relax on the lanai and look out at the waves as the sea turtles pop their heads up for air. As you swing on the lanai with a cup of coffee, take a breath of the morning fresh air as the stunning views of sunrises, Waikiki and Diamond Head begin your days in paradise. Or enjoy the peacefulness of the beautiful tropical garden while you listen to the songs of the Hawaiian birds . The home is situated at the juncture where sand ends and shallow coral rock begins. This location provides and an excellent environment for a robust turtle population.

Create a beautiful tropical tan on your oceanfront sundeck.

Towards the evening, light the Tiki-Torches and hang out at Steiner's Sand Bar and experience a tropical paradise by the sea. Head towards the fire pit and enjoy an evening underneath the stars just feet from the sea.

This house provides an authentic Hawai’ian experience – with many native plants outside, and an open-ceiling. For those interested in connecting with the spirt of the islands there is beach-front sancuary perfect for yoga or meditating with the sound of the waves in the background. Or sit at the water’s edge and watch the fish swim by and the crabs scurry along the sea wall. At night, light the tiki torches and enjoy the warm trade winds as you view the city lights of Honolulu.

The home was originally built in 1949 by a family of fisherman. The original home had a deck that reached from the home to the sea wall for drying nets. The home is constructed from reclaimed wood that was acquired from dismantling military barracks. The open ceiling shows the military blue paint that originally covered our soldiers barracks. The home was renovated in 1980 and raised with a concrete first floor to its current two story configuration.

You will relax in comfort with island-inspired furniture both indoors and out. There are several lounge chairs and umbrella tables outdoors and plush coaches and chairs inside. Additionally, the three bedrooms have large beds that will comfortably sleep up to 6 people. All of the living space is on the second floor, which allows the sea breeze to keep the house cool and enjoyable throughout the day. The bedrooms all have air conditioners. The kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, stove, coffee maker, and a large amount of counter space for cooking. The beach-front bar is covered and has a sink and all the stools you will need for a fun gathering with other guests.

The first floor has recently been opened into a spacious sitting area including desks for those who may need to stay connected. This area also includes two queen size futons that can provide additional sleeping for up to an additional 4 guests.

Ewa Beach is old Hawaii surrounded with new beautiful developments. However you will never hear road noise or have the night sky disturbed by road lights. The leeward coast occupies the sunniest part of Oahu that has been populated by Hawaiians since ancient times. The village of Ewa Beach continues to maintain the Hawaiian culture as the natives pass down their plantation type houses through generations. Ewa Beach is a great central location for experiencing all that Hawai’i has to offer. There are several shopping centers, grocery stores, and restaurants within a few minute’s drive. There are also fantastic golf courses and luxury hotels in the area as well. A bit further away, Honolulu provides all of the city amenities one could hope for (Waikiki beach, Diamond Head, Waikele Outlets, Aloha Stadium and Swap Meet, USS Arizona Memorial, etc.). And the North Shore, with all of its natural beauty and fantastic surf, is within a reasonable driving distance as well (Dole Plantation tour, Waimea Falls, Macadamia Nut Farm, Polynesian Cultural Center, big wave surf spots such as Waimea and the famous Bonzai Pipeline).

Please contact us if you have any questions – we would love to hear from you!

Sorry, no pets or smoking inside the house or on the lanai.

Thank you for your interest.

Ocean Front!!!!!

  • 4 of 5

Thanks for use of the house. It was as pictured. The ocean view can not be beat!! We enjoyed the tide crashing into the seawall during high tide. Got to watch all the battle ships coming in and out of Pearl Harbor for the the RIMPAC games. So cool! Had several local fishermen casting nets right in front of the house. We did not use the down stairs because it had no fresh air. All windows are covered and the only fresh air was when you opened the door. However the grandkids, ages 10 and 12, enjoyed hanging out down there during the day, with the door open. They slept on the couches at night. Other than that the house was great. So glad to have ac in the bedrooms since the living area got a little warm, but we stayed outside where there was always a breeze.

Great spacious house

  • 5 of 5

This house is quite spacious, we were a family of nine. The beach is nearby, so you could hear the ocean and feel the breeze. We stayed for seven days and had all the amenities we needed quite close by. It was our first trip to Hawaii and we certainly will go back for a longer vacation next time

Feel like a local

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house!

My main criteria when looking for a place for our particular trip was: (1) huge kitchen, (2) plenty of comfortable couch space in living room so everyone can hang out, (3) clean bathrooms. This place covered it all!

Location- Very local. The house has great ocean-side view, and the swinging bench on the porch was the best spot to watch the crashing waves. I will say, it is a consistent 30-40 min drive to Waikiki without traffic. There is ton of traffic in the early morning because everyone who lives locally is trying to get to work. But after 8:00AM there isn't much traffic.

Cleanliness- I'm typically apprehensive about using bed sheets when I use HomeAway, but these bed sheets felt clean and fresh. Also side-note, I had the best sleep every night, even on the first night.

Assistance- Elena was our local contact, and she was very accessible via text and very helpful. Greg was my main contact prior our visit, and he was also very accessible and accommodating to our specific needs.

What we would change- The downstairs had 2 full beds and one queen which was great, however it had a very basement feel and smell to it. That's where all the guys slept and it didn't bother them too much. However, the main floor that has all the rooms is so spacious you can simply use the air mattress they have and sleep there.

Rent this place. You won't regret it.

Great value for a lovely house in a friendly neighbourhood! dated but clean.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 (6 adults and 1 toddler) really enjoyed staying at this beautiful house in the local Ewa community. The ocean view was really amazing and hearing the waves first thing in the morning and while going to sleep was really unforgettable. Although there is no beach access, public beach access was a short 5 min walk away, and walking around in the neighbourhood was nice, and we would receive smiles and hellos back from the locals. It's located about a 40 min drive to Honolulu and 1hr 15 min drive to the polynesian center. We will definitely stay here again if we come back to Oahu.

A few notes:

- the gas tanks for the stove were empty one day, but Elena had them filled quickly the next day. A suggestion would be to check that the tanks are at least half full so the guests don't have to worry about looking for a place for refill.

- the first night we arrived, we killed 3 cockroaches, and one tried to come through the ensuite bath window mesh (which we fixed up) and only saw 1 more two days later, and we never saw another cockroach again. (we also discovered that cockroaches were common on the island, so no biggy) No mice, no weird insects at the house though!

- the closet has a lot of miscellaneous things for guests to use (bug repellant, sunscreen)!

- intermittent beeping we couldn't figure out. on the last day, it beeped every 3 seconds. Suggestion to reset the (security?) system.

- there are 3 beds in a separate 'suite' downstairs that we never used, so can't comment on that area. It is a completely separate area than the upstairs though. The 3rd bathroom is also located inside the laundry room on the ground floor. We didn't use this shower as it looked a bit unused.

- dated but clean. for those looking for hotel style accommodations, this house won't be for you. it's homey but not without its rusts and stains here and there. Everything works but little things like the rusty dishwasher and clogged ensuite sink may throw some people off. Floors felt a bit grimy but Inevitable since it IS beach front and everything feels a bit salty

- only on one night we smelled sewage, turns out there is a wastewater pump station nearby. Never smelled it again during our other 8 nights.

- Elena was very accommodating and allowed us to check out a bit later due to our very late flight the night of departure.

Very beautiful and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful. We forgot a few items and found the house was stocked with some of these items. Our time here was enjoyable and relaxing. The home owners really took time to ensure our comfort. We did not end up having our wedding ceremony here but it would have been a beautiful picturesque setting. I hope to make this our regular spot. I would highly recommend staying here. We read about mice but did not have any issues with this. Elena was welcoming and helped orient us to the house. I do not have one complaint and believe me I would definitely voice a concern if I had one. I look forward to our next stay.

Needs Attention to Repairs

  • 3 of 5

There was problems with the house, dining room ceiling fan broken, flooring missing/gaps in the flooring in the kitchen area. Front door knob latch in backwards, had to use key to lock door. Shower curtain in bathroom connected to bedroom had rust and mildew stains on the bottom of it. Two window louver couldn't open in one bedroom, had to remove screen to open them, mechanism was broken. Downstairs bedroom area had mice, no traps out to catch rodents. Overall, the house was suitable for the area. Owner worked with us on checkout time because of a late flight/was very grateful for this. The owners needs to get better handymen to do the repairs and address the issues above. Was there 11 days and never saw an electrician to replace broken fan. Maybe they should leave tools at the house, was more then willing to do the repairs myself.
