Great Getaway on Gravel Road

  • 5 of 5

Great semi-secluded cabin away from the Glacier NP crowds. Well built, quiet, well stocked kitchen, plenty of chopped wood for heating and cozy. The bunkhouse had the same feeling. The decor in the house and bunkhouse leave you with a homey feeling and plenty to gaze at. The Polebridge Mercantile is a must visit. Their bakery really cranks out the goodies all day long. They do have a few gluten free options, but I would be cautious (I tried a muffin and had issues). The owner contacted me before the trip to make sure I understood the workings of the solar electricity, generator, water, etc... which was much appreciated. Pretty much all of the windows have screens on them, so you can open up the house to get nice airflow without worrying too much about the bugs (mosquitoes are horrendous). Prior visitors had left behind cans of bear spray to use.

As described in the posting, this cabin is off the grid - no internet, no phones, no TV (not that you need it with the surroundings) although you can play movies. No cell phone signal worried me a bit in case of emergencies, but once there, it was a bit refreshing and everything went well. We were able to get phone signal on Camas Road on the way into GNP. The rooms in the main house are open to the rest of the house and are not private. This was not a problem for our party, but may be for others. The shower is on the second level of the house (also one in the bunkhouse) which could be a problem for handicapped individuals. For the water, the tanks were always empty in the morning so we had to start the generator first thing. This could make for a very chilly start to the day if you're staying there in the winter time. I will put out a word of warning to the motorcycle visitors, the roads are gravel!! If you have a duel-sport or a bike you don't really care about, I suppose this doesn't really matter, but nice road bikes beware. Lastly, and this is minor, the refrigerator is pretty small for large groups. It was okay for our party of 5 but if you plan to cook at home a lot for a larger party, this could be a bit of a hiccup.

Overall nice cabin! I wouldn't let my review deter you from staying at the cabin, I just wanted to include some things I would have found helpful prior to the visit. Great find!

Fantastic owner, fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

Richard is one of the best owners I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He truly cares about your comfort and safety. He answered my many, many questions responding to emails, spent time on the phone talking about things to do in the area and explaining things about the cabin, and he provided a food processor for us, I cannot say enough great things about his hospitality. Now the cabin - WOW! We didn't want to leave. Its easy to get to, it's remote (we love that about it) The views are outstanding. We sat on the lovely, large deck each morning with our coffee. Five adults slept in the cabin very comfortably, we fell asleep each night listening to the river below us and the birds singing. The fully furnished kitchen was easy to cook in and we cooked everyday. Bring your mosquito spray, the little buggers are busy outside. We did not see any wildlife in the yard but saw plenty in Glacier National Park. No cellphone service, no WI-FI was a huge plus for our group, please don't ever change it. Thank you so much Richard, we absolutely loved it!

Beautiful cabin, convenient access to Polebridge and Glacier. Loved having water and power!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was very accomodating and great with communication. The cabin has plenty of parking. The panoramic views are amazing and the wrap around deck was perfect for relaxing. The kitchen was well equipped. The eclectic antiques sparked many conversations with our group. For a larger gathering, the bunkhouse (and its full bath) is worth the extra expense. We stayed during a rainy weekend and never felt "off the grid" thanks to the generator. We enjoyed a wilderness cabin experience with 5 star hotel amenities. Great value, thank you, Richard!

Quite the place!

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing! It was so nice to get away from everyday life and enjoy being with nature. The views of Glacier national park are breathtaking and this cabin is the perfect place for it. It is close to Canada and takes a while to get to, but well worth it! I highly recommend this cabin

Beautiful house with gorgeous views, located away from bustle of GNP.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our house. It's beautifully built and filled with memorabilia and art. It's in a remote area, but only 12 minutes by car to a fabulous bakery and great restaurant, as well as to the Park entrance to three different lakes - Kintla, Bowman, and Logging.

The kitchen is well-equipped, and we prepared several meals and well as baked a huckleberry pie! The electricity is solar-powered, and with the exception of a generator blip on one day, it worked very well.

Our host, Richard, was very responsive and easy to contact by text.

You should be prepared for the fact that the area is off grid - so no phone service, internet, etc. There is a land phone at the close-by bakery ("The Mercantile") and I used this when I wanted to check in with my 94 year old mother, etc.

We will definitely rent again!

Our family really enjoyed our time at this beautiful property overlooking Red Meadow Creek. The boys loved staying in the bunkhouse and we loved the seclusion. Viewing the night sky from this home is amazing!
