About The Owner

We are dairy farmers and sell raw milk , cheese, and meat from our grass fed organic cows. We saw this property come up for sale, and Lamar used to have a water hauling business and got back there a couple times a year. It was a favorite setting and it made you feel like not leaving every time. Upon finding out it was log we decided to remodel it and share the beauty of the old log home with modern amenities with others. Come experience for yourself the serenity.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2007

Why The Owner chose Dutch Country

When searching for a place to spend our honeymoon we could find nothing like this until we got to Tennessee. Why not have a place available near I-81 in the Cumberland Valley ? It is 3 miles from our farm, easy access to town and interstates, airports, restaurants, etc., yet with nice seclusion.

What makes this cottage unique

In the spring you will hear the frogs singing all around the cabin. In June the mountain laurel will be in full bloom on the state forest land just behind our cabin. In the fall the leaves show off for you! In the winter there is nothing more romantic than sitting in the jacuzzi and watching the snow fall outside, hoping to get snowed in so you do not have to leave this blissful place!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely stunning cabin, thoughtfully restored. Craftsmanship is exquisite. So clean you could eat off the floor! Large bedroom, shower, yard--absolutely perfect place to get away and celebrate your marriage! Owners are accommodating and pleasant to work with. Loved the remote-feeling location, but yet only 10-15 minutes from Shippensburg. Close to many hiking areas. Peaceful and serene property. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone.

The cabin was awesome :) it was perfect for the first three nights of our honeymoon. The jacuzzi was sweet ! The fireplace was so cozy. And the electric skillet was awesome :). The dishes were so nice as well :). The bed was awesome and everything was just perfect. We will definitely be returning someday.

A Little Glimpse of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Little did I know when I concluded our review with the phrase "A Little Glimpse of Heaven" my husband would be there fifteen days later. I will always cherish the gift of the most precious week of our life together at Glowing Logs cabin. Thank you again for your labors of love to provide such memories for us.

We didn't want to leave Glowing Logs!

  • 5 of 5

Winding back around a country road into the woods out of the suburbs, we were greeted by a charming unlatched gate welcoming us to cozy candlelit windows, and peaceful music playing. Before I could even taken in every careful detail of the living room, my eyes welled with tears as I told my husband, "You did good." He scouted out the kitchen promptly to see what was available for cooking our meals. I had to slow him down to savor the ambiance. No expense was spared, even for the commode and the bathroom sink. The blend of rustic cabin and touches of elegance were perfect. The heart-shaped jacuzzi was lovely, not at all like a "cheap motel." The king size bed offered a quality mattress. The generous collection of CDs was lovely. And yes, the kitchen offered an electric skillet, casserole dishes and place settings for the table.

My husband quite enjoyed a treat of steak and eggs for breakfast (something we never have) with a package of thin steaks purchased at the Giant grocery store nearby, and eggs and milk purchased from the hosts' wonderful little farm store. A Dollar Tree next to the Giant also offers any forgotten toiletries, condiments, etc. for, you guessed it, $1 per item. Also the Giant had a lovely salad bar from which we also purchased some fruit for breakfast quite affordably. Nearby, watch carefully so you don't miss signs for "Mother's Kitchen" where in a little shed at the end of her driveway, a kind woman sells her home-canned goods and eggs at amazingly reasonable prices. She will appreciate any donations of empty egg cartons and canning jars. We also bought fresh vegetables from neighboring farms. Being able to eat healthy fresh local foods was part of the treat for us.

The back patio faces a spacious back yard, and offers a grill, table & chairs with umbrella, and a glider swing. The autumn foliage had not quite peaked and was lovely. My husband sat in the plaid wing chair reading his Bible, and looked as handsome as I knew he would sitting there. We enjoyed the fireplace SO much.

This was my husband's gift to me for my 50th birthday. We left the suburbs behind, brought years of maturing in our marriage with us, and didn't want to return to our apartment, traffic, etc. We agreed that the experience was better than our wedding or honeymoon and discussed how we could continue back at home the peacefulness and communication we shared at Glowing Logs. For us, a little glimpse of heaven!
