About The Owner

My wife and I live in the nearby Historic Wilmington, NC, which is a short 35 minute drive from Caswell Beach. We searched for two years for 'the right' beach place. Once we drove along Caswell Beach with its lush greenery that opened onto the pristine beaches, we knew we had found that place. After a couple of years of enjoying the place all to ourselves, we are now ready to share it with our new friends!

The Owner purchased this condo in 2010

Why The Owner chose Caswell Beach

Once you cross over the bridge spanning the Intracoastal Waterway onto Oak Island and to Caswell Beach, it is immediately apparent that you are in a different place with a different pace and state of mind. The beaches are wide and uncrowded, the dunes with their deep green vegetation and sea grasses make you feel as though you are in a land that time forgot. The pacing is decidedly unhurried and the people are friendly and quick with a smile. Also, if you are a kayaker, as my wife & I are, you have a wealth of varying aquatic landscapes to explore from the ocean waves to a visit to Historic Southport via the Intracoastal to the various streams, rivers, and tributaries that permeate the region. Also, for wildlife lovers, dolphin sightings are frequent, as are all manner of waterfowl, and I have even caught a glance of rays leaping from the water on a couple of paddles out in the Intracoastal.

Washed out at Caswell Beach NC

  • 3 of 5

Rain. Every day and night. Probably had a total of 15-hours on the beach as an inland stationary front brought storms from the south all week. We decided to leave a day early. There was some local flooding including the complex parking lot with standing water 6-10-inch deep. However, parking was not a problem as there were enough spots away from flooded areas.

The accommodations nicely furnished, comfortable with ceiling fans in all rooms. Supplies were adequate. Could not use balcony due to rain. Thought it would have been good to have a blue-ray player available. Aside from the third floor location (48-steps), the condo was a good choice. Was disappointed with the community pool closing at 8:00-pm. The condo manager was easy to contact and was as helpful as possible.

The area had little to offer for entertainment. One rainy day, we elected to visit Myrtle Beach for dinner and shopping. It was a reasonable 80-minute drive. We also visited the battleship site in Wilmington NC about a 90-minute drive. When able to visit Caswell Beach, it was awesome. Wide, clean, fine white sand beach with plenty of room for walking or any beach activity (volleyball, kite flying etc). Beach was not heavily populated.

It is a nice, quiet area for a stress relaxing break from the daily work routine. The weather interfered with our plans this time. Next time it will be different.

Owner's Response: At the time the guest's review was posted, our condo had received 53 guest reviews from other guests, all of which awarded us with 5-Stars, many noting the outstanding cleanliness, attention to detail, the overall quality of the accommodations, and the amazing view of the beach the condo offers. The same high bar of service was provided to the guests on their visit with us. This fact is confirmed by the text messages received from the guests themselves. In one text, the guests state “Everything looks just perfect, thank you!” (7/28/18, 4:45pm). In a follow up text, the guests refer to the condo as “a perfect paradise!” (7/28/18, 4:50pm). It was thus a great surprise to receive a message from the guest a day after their stay stating that he had assigned a 3-Star rating to our accommodations. In his message, the guest stated “I put in a review for 3-stars simply because the weather was simply awful” (8/5/18, 9:18pm). The guest went on to state that his wife suffers from a condition that requires special care and that “between her needs and the weather it was difficult to find much beach time” (8/5/18, 9:18pm). I responded to the guest that while I could certainly empathize with a guest who is disappointed to have poor weather during their beach stay (a period of record rainfall during their stay, unfortunately) or that is inconvenienced by their spouse (this is sarcasm; I was appalled at the assertion that his wife’s "needs" detracted from his enjoyment of the vacation), both of the conditions listed in his message to me as reasons for assigning the 3-Star rating were wholly outside of our control as owners and that the ratings system is designed to provide a review to assist other potential guests in making informed decisions in selecting accommodations when visiting a destination. The guest did not respond to my message and proceeded to assign a rating of 3-Stars. As to points in the posted review, (1) rain, unfortunately, does fall even at the beach, (2) the fact that the condo is on the 3rd floor and is accessible by stairs was discussed with this guest, and all guests, via phone conversation at the time of booking to help insure guest satisfaction, (3) the listing of amenities is very detailed and does not include a blue-ray player (does specifically note DVD & CD player), and (4) the fact that Caswell Beach is a quiet family beach very dissimilar to larger more commercial beaches was discussed via phone conversation.

Relaxing time away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

Just like all the other reviews have stated, this condo was immaculate. Angela, the owner, met us upon arrival and showed us around the condo, which was a nice touch! Mark was very responsive to our needs during our stay. They provided beach towels and chairs! The view was spectacular, the beach pristine and within a few steps from the condo. Much, much quieter location than Myrtle Beach or some of the other beach towns along the Emerald coast. There is a storage space, on the ground level, to stow all things needed for the beach. There was no need to haul things up and down the stairs. Very convenient indeed! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks Mark and Angela for a week of peace and tranquility!

A Gorgeous View from the balcony of a Beautiful Condo

  • 5 of 5

We don't generally write reviews. However, we are making an exception here. Our expectations were high, given all the 5 star ratings, without dissent. In short, they're well deserved. This is a very nice 2 BR, 2 full bath condo with an awesome view of the Atlantic. Very comfortable. The little touches were nice too, such as plenty of plush towels - including beach towels - and lots of beach chairs. Mark is a very nice host, generous with his time, showed us around and gave us plenty of local recommendations to try.

This condo is my new vision of what a 5 star VRBO is, which will probably be to the detriment of future VRBOs that we rent.

This property also nailed 2 of my idiosyncrasies. I'm a light sleeper. This is an end condo unit, with the bedrooms on the outside wall. If you've ever slept in a condo or hotel with someone yelling in the phone next door or someone who turns the TV up in the morning to hear it in the shower, this is a great plus. Also, being on the top floor, there's no one above you making noises by walking heavy on the floor or dropping anything. Plus, the top floor gives you the best ocean view.

Bottom line - 5 star all the way.

Relaxing Time

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely two week stay at Jane's Island retreat. Very well stocked apartment with everything needed in the kitchen, as well as towels for the apartment and the beach!

The view and sounds of the ocean can't be beat and we spend many lovely, warm nights outside on the balcony. A short walk to the beautiful beach for walks to the pier or the lighthouse and swimming in the ocean, made for a restful vacation.

It was so clean and well cared for. Pride of ownership was everywhere. There was nothing we could have wanted or needed that wasn't there. So nice to meet the owner. No need to stand in line waiting to check in. Would definitely stay there again.
