WATERFRONT COTTAGE WITH PRIVATE COVE
Our peaceful cottage sits just in front of a rock ledge and calm cove of the wide Darmariscotta River A summer home surrounded by green lawn and gardens, its many picture windows and large deck provide views of the constantly changing 9’ tides, of lobstermen hauling their traps, of sunrises, of seals riding the river’s current or of the blue heron that favors fishing in our small cove, and of the picturesque boat harbor downriver.
The heart of the cottage is its large living room, featuring three picture windows facing the river with a view of the harbor boats, another picture window facing the garden, a piano and a wood-burning stove. On one side of the living room is the kitchen, a sitting-dining area with a wall of screened windows also facing the river, and the master bedroom with queen bed and full bath with bathtub. The other side of the living room has an enclosed porch with another sitting area, a bedroom with a full size bed, another bedroom with a twin over full bunk bed, and second bathroom with shower. In addition, is a second common area for these two rooms. This section gives privacy from the master bedroom on the other side of the living room.
Outside is a large deck with lounge chairs, table and charcoal grill, and of course a full view of river activity. Our cove is appropriate for children with both a rocky and sandy area to explore and fish from.
Our quiet home is a five minute walk down a private road to the tiny shipbuilding village of East Boothbay, where the river reverses its flows into the large town pond, a fascination to watch when standing on the village bridge. The village’s dock restaurant serves great lobster meals on its large open deck that faces the yachts and sailboats anchored in the harbor. A general store is around the corner with all the necessities you may need including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
A five minute drive takes you to Ocean Point, where old cottages line the winding road beside the ocean’s rocky coast, and where visitors stroll for true coastal scenery. A large public cove provides swimming for children and adults; beyond the cove are two miles of wide rock ledges that can be easily climbed over so one can feel the spray of ocean surf crashing onto the rocks, or so one can discover small tidal pools teeming with crabs, mussels and plant life.
Our cottage is a five minute drive to Boothbay, a lively town with waterfront restaurants and cafes where you can watch yachts, sailboats, fishing boats and harbor cruise boats as they head in and out of the charming harbor. Boothbay is also home for the incredible Boothbay Region Botanical Gardens, now quite famous as the largest in New England, and the small Maine State Aquarium, very exciting to children and situated on a beautiful harbor point with picnic tables, grassy lawn and a rocky shore. 13 lighthouses and 15 wildlife land preserves are available for visits and hiking. Kayaking, golf, mini-golf, a new YWCA pool, lobster and clambakes, and boat cruises are always offered, with Windjammer Days (late June), July 4 fireworks, East Boothbay Shipbuilders Festival (August), and on-going craft fairs as special events.
Nearby are Wiscasset, known as the “most picturesque village in Maine” with old sea-captain’s homes and popular “Red Eats” lobster rolls, Freeport with the LLBean flagship store and other famous outlets, Rockport with its Farnsworth Art Museum which features the Wyeth artists’ works, and the nearby “Christina’s Farm” located on an unspoiled peninsula, and Bath with its Maine Maritime Museum. A day’s round trip boat ride brings you to Monhegan Island, a fascinating island known for its footpaths through village homes and artists’ studios.
Our secluded cottage offers the natural peace and beauty for a genuine Maine experience.

My wife and I have owned the house next door for fourteen years. Our extended family has enjoyed the Boothbay region for many many years. When we were approached by our next door neighbors about buying their family cottage of 46 years we knew it was a great opportunity to own 'another' slice of heaven, and a cabin that has a bunch of "Maine cabin character" wrapped into its one owner 46 year history!
Doug purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Doug chose East Boothbay
This quaint summer place was built by and had been in the same family for over 46 years until we, as the next door neighbors were lucky enough to purchase it when it was time for the family to sell. We currently use the house ourselves for part of the summer and will be renting it out the rest of the summer.
What makes this Cottage unique
Many homes may be listed as waterfront but this cottage couldn't be closer, giving you the ability to watch lobsterman hauling their traps, and sailboats bobbing in the harbor from your living room or back porch.

Truly "the way life should be"
This was my first HomeAway experience and could not have had better luck. Doug was extremely helpful and prior to my arrival sent me a laundry list of things to do and see around Boothbay. It proved to be extremely helpful because I carried his list around daily to help pick out restaurants and explore other towns not far away from the house. The cabin itself is lovely and as soon as you step in the living room you are greeted with one heck of a view of the Damariscotta River. There was plenty of room in the cabin and the deck was a perfect place to enjoy my breakfast and coffee from the local general store up the road (a nice walking distance). When I noticed that Doug had provided all of the necessary things to cook lobsters at the house, I made sure to pick some up from town. The house is well stocked with everything one might need to cook pretty much anything and the fireplace was a nice added feature in the evenings. I also made sure to take advantage of the canoe that was available to better explore the river. I plan on returning.
peaceful, calming , relaxing and charming
adorable place with beautiful gardens right on the water....plenty of room for a group of people
good location close to town and shops. Owner was very nice and thoughtful. A great place to stay.
Excellent and well maintainied
Clean and spacious. Perfect for our 35th wedding anniversary trip.
Owner left lights on to make it easy to find as we were arrivng after dark. He also had welcoming not and bottle of wine on the kitchen counter. the next morning he came over to ensure we had found everything we needed.
His cottage was next door so he was easily accessible and he provided his cell phone number. Nearby but NOT intrusive.
When we return to Boothbay Harbor, we will check with him first!
Kahler's for great local lobster at a reasonable price.
comfortable classic cottage
I was in search of a new place to stay in East Boothbay as the house my family had been renting was recently sold. The location was perfect: near the East Boothbay General Store and Fisherman's Wharf restaurant yet away from the traffic on a quiet side street. The cottage has a very comfortable feel to it with a large living room to gather in at the end of the day. Most nights we'd light up the wood stove and watch a classic movie from the selection that was on hand (someone must have known we love movies!). Just about everything you need is already provided from the towels and linens to fishing poles and tackle box and Doug's recommendations on places to go and restaurants to try were very helpful. We wouldn't have known about the view from the upstairs bar at Mine Oyster if he hadn't mentioned it. There are plenty of books to read and decks of cards in case of a rainy/"do nothing" day. Freeport is an hour away in one direction and Rockland in the other. Definitely go to the Farnsworth Art Museum and Owl's Head Transportation Museum (Rockland) and stop for pie at Moody's Diner on the way back.
Couldn't have asked for a better stay. The cottage was absolutely perfect for our party of 5. Perfect weather, amazing scenery and the food was delicious. We'll definitely be beck next year.
Great views and location with everything included
This East Boothbay location is perfect - on the water with a great view of lobster boats and the morning sunrise. And it's near the General Store that serves delicious sandwiches and sells local Maine gifts.
The cottage has everything you need to spend a hassle free week enjoying the beauty of the Maine Coast. It was very clean and well maintained. Also, the owner was very helpful providing good restaurant suggestions and ideas for interesting sights in the area.
Whether you a new visitor to the Boothbay area or a returning fan , I would recommended staying here.
From our home you can walk to East Boothbay's marina and shipbuilding harbor, to the general store with internet access (and great donuts!), and to Linekin Bay. Our cottage is a 10 minute drive to Boothbay, a lively town with waterfront restaurants and cafes where you can watch yachts, sailboats, fishing boats and harbor cruise boats as they head in and out of the charming harbor.
