Welcome to our mini-paradise in the city, located on a gorgeous wooded acre in beautiful, safe Cheyenne Canyon just 3 blocks from the historic Broadmoor Hotel and 2 blocks from miles of trails! Although we are less than ten minutes from downtown, we are worlds apart. 'The Canyon' is a unique area within Colorado Springs, because it is in the heart of nature, where you can see wildlife (deer, foxes, and bear) and truly experience Colorado's rugged outdoors. Cheyenne Creek is just down the block from our house and runs through the whole canyon. Staying here is nothing like staying in a city.

This 2100 square foot three bedroom, two and a half bath house is on a private, parklike wooded acre with a pond that has a small island in the middle of it. The house is set back 150 feet and is barely visible from the road. It sits up 14 steps which makes you feel that you are in a tree house looking into the tree canopy with lots of privacy. This setting is the front yard. The large windows give the three level house a light, bright 'indoor/outdoor' feeling. Don't like climbing 14 steps? Don't worry, there is a 2nd driveway from the back that's on the level of the house. There is wonderful stone terracing all around the front and side of the house.

Our house was built in 1919 and was one of the first homes in the canyon when everything was wild open spaces... It was used as a rooming house by cattlemen who would water their horses at the pond. Today, we are walking distance to miles of parks and open spaces. It is the perfect spot to explore and experience all the wonders that Colorado Springs has to offer! .

The house has three bedrooms. One, on the first floor, another downstairs and another upstairs. On the first floor is the master bedroom suite with a king sized bed. The master bathroom has a 5 foot marble shower and an antique pedestal tub. There is also a dressing room with a washer/dryer. The upstairs has built in cupboards and nooks and crannies (very hobbit-like) and there are 2 twin beds and a full size bed (on the floor due to dormered ceilings.) The upstairs area has a 3/4 bath with a 24' by 36' sit-down shower. (Kids love it!) You'll have to watch your head going up the stairs... Low Bridge! Downstairs in the lower level is a 20X20 3rd bedroom with laminate floors, a king-sized walnut bedroom set and an additional pull-out twin bed and woodburning fire place. There aren't any openable windows in this bedroom but it is naturally cool and fully airconditioned, as well. There is a 1/2 bath at the top of the stairs from the lower level bedroom, right near the kitchen.

The house has oak and fir wood floors all throughout the 1st floor. There is a gorgeous, fully stocked eat-in kitchen with granite counters, a gas Jenn-Aire range and Jenn-Aire oven, and a Bosch dishwasher. The kitchen is in the oldest part of the house, so the ceilings are low, giving a very cozy feeling... There is everything you could need for a fun vacation! There are new air-conditioners in the bedrooms and the living room (which cool the whole place), but summer evenings in Colorado tend to be cooler, so it cools down beautifully at night. Just open the windows.

This inviting property is furnished with very comfy sofas in the living room, which has a wonderful wood-burning fireplace. There are new flat screen TVs in each bedroom and there is also a 46' Flat Screen HD LCD TV in the Livingroom. All TVs have full cable TV service. We are also set up for wireless internet access so you can sit outside in the parklike setting and surf the web..

The back yard is huge with a gas barbeque, as well as a deck and patio tables and chairs for al fresco dining.

We are a short walk to the Stratton Open Space Preserve where you can walk on miles of trails,enjoy wonderful hiking, biking and exploring. Walking westward towards the mountains along Cheyenne Blvd, is a lovely coffee shop, a nice place to stop for a capuccino or mocha before continuing on into Cheyenne Canyon Park and the Starsmore Discovery center (an educational nature center, great for children of all ages), with miles of hikes along Cheyenne Creek. If you drive into the canyon, the beauty will astound you! Seven Falls and Helen Hunt Falls are located right down the road a bit deeper into Cheyenne Canyon and both are incredibly beautiful. For a shot of old world elegance, walk to the five star Broadmoor hotel, an historic resort that is a wonderful place to go for a drink or a meal or just to walk around the gorgeous grounds and lake! (pups welcome on the grounds)

We allow pets... Let us know if for some reason you need a kennel or help with your pet during your stay and we will try to accomodate your pooch.

We are less than ten minutes from historic Old Colorado City and fifteen minutes from exciting Manitou Springs with their wonderful restaurants, shopping, supermarkets and galleries. Garden of the Gods park, with its exquisite red rock formations, is a must see and it is less than 10 minutes away with a fantastic visitor's center. Downtown Colorado Springs is just a hop, skip and jump away, as well... The Air Force Academy is about 25 minutes north of us, and Colorado College is about 10 minutes away in the downtown area. The Olympic Training Center is east of us and less than a fifteen minute drive.

There is a wonderful mountain zoo less than 10 minutes away. There are many fabulous day trips less than 2 hours from us, including the drive up Pikes Peak, marvellilng at the Royal Gorge, rafting on the Arkansas river, soaking in hotsprings, exploring Cave of the Winds, and visiting the Cliff-dwelling museum, all great entertainment for kids.

Cancellation Policy: 100% refund if cancellation is 60 days or more before arrival date. Cancelling 30-60 days before arrival date will result in forfeit of deposit. Cancelling within 30 days of arrival date is non-refundable unless we are able to re-book those days. There is a $50.00 processing fee for any cancellations.

Pardon the corny photo from X-Mas last year at our daughter's house... We have 3 Corgi dogs of our own, all rescued from the Humane Society, and our daughter has a 4th Corgi, also a rescue... We take our 3 pups with us where-ever we can, and they love taking long hikes with us around the Cheyenne Canyon area. We have been married for close to 30 years. We lived in New York City for our first 35+ years, and have lived in Colorado for the past 20 years. We love it here! (You will too!)

Why Mark Lowenherz chose Colorado Springs

We purchased this wonderful property to live in and we do, whenever it's not taken by one of our guests. It has always been our country getaway right in the city. We had fallen in love with Cheyenne Canyon park and its miles and miles of hiking and biking trails and when this property came up for sale, we couldn't resist! It's one of the 3 or 4 largest lots in the canyon and is truly like staying in paradise.

What makes this house unique

This canyon is surrounded by open spaces. We have 3 Corgi dogs (all rescue dogs, adopted at the Colorado Springs Humane Society), and we take them hiking up into the surrounding parks and mountains. We love the proximity to all that Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City and Manitou have to offer, yet feel as though we are living in a mountain getaway, miles from civilization! We frequently see deer, foxes, raccoons and even occasional ducks on the pond when we are sitting on the porch or even just looking out our living room window. We hope you will love it as much as we do!

Totally enjoyable experience.

When we arrived at Mark's home, we were greeted by 6 very unafraid deer grazing in the front yard. During the week we also had mallard ducks in the pond in the front yard. The deer were back on our last day to bid us adieu. The house is surprisingly large with room for 8 comfortably (12 if everyone's friendly). It was super clean with very nice updates in the kitchen. Nobody ran out of hot water despite the fact that we all showered early every day. The kitchen was fully stocked, all we needed to buy was our groceries. Our Boston terrier loved the back yard, as did we with plenty of seating for people. The WiFi was fast and allowed us to make reservations for all the local sights we were interested it. The location is fantastic and very close to many of the sights we were interested in. We are very pleased that Mark was willing to share his lovely house with us, thanks.

Cozy Seclusion Yet Conveniently Located

I really look forward to coming back here in warm weather to enjoy the beautiful outdoor areas and nearby hiking. A very cozy older home with lots of character and some remodeling to add updated features like the granite kitchen and high-end appliances. It's the most well-stocked rental I've ever had. There were plenty of basic supplies (like a bottle of dishwasher cleaner instead of two little tabs for a week plus stay) cleaning utensils so I could keep things clean and pretty much everything you need for cooking in the kitchen. I saw a waffle maker, a crepe maker, and a crock pot in the cupboard. There are PLENTY of cups/glasses/flatware so that you can wait for a full load on the dishwasher. There were doggie bowls in the pantry, so sweet to think of potential four-legged guests! There were even napkins. Plenty of linens. There was detergent for the washer, though I brought my own. One reviewer considered it "dirty" but I'm a serious neat-nick and I didn't have any complaints. There is a difference between dirty and older. It was clean. An overlooked coffee filter isn't really that difficult to mend -- trash and throw the holder in the dishwasher. Boom! Overlooking one little detail can happen to anybody.

The layout offers a lot of privacy for two couples. It would be awesome if a downstairs full bath could be added, but we didn't mind sharing the huge main floor master bath with our grown kids. Loved the soaking tub and huge shower. The upstairs sit down shower is fine if you're shorter, so it would work well for grade school children, also giving them a private space. There are a lot of stairs, but we are all fit so it wasn't a problem, but worthy of consideration if you have issues with stairs. They all have sturdy handrails, it never felt unsafe. There was even a bag of salt so we could deal with the snow/ice on the front walk up.

There is good wi-fi if you happen to need to work as I did. The cable and televisions are nice -- it was easy to kick back and watch bowl games or catch up on some cooking shows with demand.

There was firewood for the fireplace, though we didn't wind up building a fire. It was cozy enough looking out the window at the majestic trees, mountain, and visiting wildlife.

It's a cheap Lyft ride to downtown Colorado Springs and walking distance to hiking trails, yet it feels like you are in the forest.

Mark was awesome to work with, leaving us a key for late arrival and prompt response to our inquiry.

A house with a character

We were in Colorado Springs for work and needed a place to stay for a few months. Luckily I came across this property. The house is cozy and has a character. There is a unique mixture of old and new. The master bedroom and bathroom area is very comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked and had everything that we needed for cooking. The living area is spacious with few couches and a large TV. The back yard is lovely and has a BBQ grill. We used it quite often. There are steps to get to the house and to the attic or to the downstairs bedroom so it's not for everyone. We, however, enjoyed our stay there and would definitely rent it again. Mark was always a phone call away and accomodating if we needed anything.

Odd, felt dirty

Mark was very easy to communicate with. As others have warned, upstairs is a challenge. Home has a lot of character but here is the reality. Front steps are many and steep, hard for luggage. Yes, you can go around the driveway a bit and have only 5 steps. But, making the turn in a van is quite hard to squeeze around the corner uphill on a narrow dirt rut drive. We did that upon arrival, but chose to do the many front stairs when we left. The deer and wildlife was beautiful, #1 best attribute. You enter the house into a large foyer/ living room. Nice large tv in there with a small couch. Same room has separate seating area. Then you're in a kitchen with a medium sise table and upgraded granite counter tops with a nice looking stove. Refrigerator is stuffed around the corner in a small hall/alcove. What grossed my wife out 100% was when she opened the coffee maker and there was an old moldy filter with grounds. Old filter with grounds would be bad but fresh. Fact that it sat long enough for mold made us feel like most of the cleaning fee is pocketed or the crew Mark hires isn't doing their jib. Very disgusting feeling. Needless to say, my wife wouldn't use the kitchen after that. The master bedroom and bath off of the kitchen/breakfast area has a large comfortable bed for 2. After that, sleeping adults is a challange no mater how many Mark claims it sleeps. Next best bed is large king in finished basement. Of course, to go to the bathroom, you need to climb a set of stairs to use the half bath by the kitchen. Best attributes of this half bath are that it has a ceiling fan and you can stand up without hitting your head. So far, 2 adults in master with bath, no problem. 2 adults down in basement with half bath up a level not ideal. Rest of beds are up in the finished attic. Off the kitchen there is a steep set of stairs to finished attic with two single beds at top of the stairs in large area you can stand up in with a dresser and tv. Then it gets really wierd. Up a couple of small steps, you have a narrow short passage with a toilet in an alcove with a door but if you shut the doir, you have to contort you self to use the facilites. Worse than an airplane bath which has a sloped ceiling to hit your head on. Past the toilet is the famous "sit down shower." My daughters asked me to sit in the tiny shower, I declined saying I was afraid I would get stuck. At end is queen mattress on floor. No frame because ceiling is too low. Reality? Sleeps 2, maybe4
