Cayucos Beachfront House, Private Steps to Beach

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This immaculate ocean-front home has a private stairway to one of the most beautiful beaches in California. The views from the hardwood deck are stunning-Morro Rock to the south, Point Estero to the north, miles of uncrowded beach in between. You can stroll for miles on the beach, beachcombing and exploring the tide pools. Younger members of the family can try their hand at surfing or boogyboarding, or build sand castles while their parents watch from the deck. When you return from the beach, at the top of the steps is an outdoor shower (hot and cold water!) to wash off the sand and salt.

The recently-remodeled great room is also designed to take maximum advantage of the view. You can watch the sun set over the water while eating dinner, or watch the fog swirl around Morro Rock while relaxing on the sofa. Depending on the season, you are likely to see dolphins or sea otters swimming just off-shore, and further offshore you might even see a whale spout. In the evening, you might decide to light a fire in the gas-burning fireplace. The sound of the surf will probably be the only sound you hear, unless you put a CD in the stereo, or turn on the TV to check out one of the many cable channels.

There are two immaculate bedrooms, with baths en suite. The large kitchen is fully equipped, including a new range, dishwasher, refrigerator, and microwave. There's a single-car garage (large suv's might not fit), and parking in front for two vehicles.

The area's attractions don't stop at the shoreline. Cayucos and nearby Morro Bay abound in great restaurants, antique stores, and unique boutiques. A thirty-minute drive will take you to world-famous Hearst Castle, at San Simeon, and the elephant seal rookery at Piedras Blancas. The charming city of San Luis Obispo is only twenty minutes away. You can tour the Mission, check out the Thursday night Farmer's Market, or perhaps take in a world-class performance at Cal Poly's Performing Arts Center. Just south of San Luis Obispo is the world-famous Edna Valley wine-growing region, famous for its chardonnays and Rhone varietals.

A half-hour drive east, around Paso Robles and Templeton, you'll find more great restaurants, and friendly wineries that produce some of California's finest zinfandels, cabernet sauvignons, and other red wines that have made this region one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in California.

California's Central Coast has everything for an enjoyable vacation, and our beach house is the ideal place to stay. The most difficult part of your stay will be deciding what to do next.

We were extremely fortunate to spend a week with our dogs at this wonderful beach house! The house is wonderfully dog-friendly from the welcoming attitude of the owners, Ken and Judy, to outdoor access and beach access for canine fun. We were lucky to experience sunny days, rainy days, cold days, and warm days. Staying at the house was delightful under all conditions. It was cozy to watch the rough weather with oceanfront seats, while sitting in front of a nice HD television and gas fireplace. On sunny days, we moved our seats out to the spacious deck that overlooks the wide sandy beach and ocean. We had a great time playing in the surf with our dogs and beachcombing. This house is located just north of Morro Bay and there is a lot to enjoy there, but we mostly stayed in Cayucos, which is a quaint beach community with fun restaurants and an iconic pier. Back to the house...It is equipped with everything that a vacationer could reasonably desire in terms of kitchen accessories, a spacious livingroom area, comfortable bedrooms, laundry facilities, etc. We had a group of local friends join us for cocktails on the deck and dinner. The beach house provided the perfect recipe for entertaining, and everyone was very impressed with the house and its views. To summarize, our total experience was wonderful and we were happy to be added to Ken and Judy's future rental calendar!!

Fantastic one of a kind

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to pick up an open week in January for Sea Grape. This house is Fantastic. It starts with Judy and Ken who obviously (and deservedly) are proud of what they present. The great room is warm and cozy with all glass facing the water. We spent most of our house time on the deck overlooking the ocean or in the great room looking at the ocean. For hours I would set my tripod on the deck and photographed amazing sunsets, bird action, paragliders, surfers, of course Morro Rock and waves with rainbow back spray at certain times of day.

The attached garage is a real plus. The outside shower for rinsing our dogs and letting dry on the deck (with help from our towels from home) was perfect. The home has had great care and you can tell the owners and their selected clients have taking great care. Upgrades are apparent. This is not a rundown beach house by any means.

Of course the area has great exploring and dinning opportunities as anyone familiar with the Central Coast already knows. If you are fortunate enough to land a spot please enjoy and take care of the house it is a treasure.

Location! Location! Location!

This house is a dream come true for anyone who wants to bring their four legged children on vacation. After almost two years on the waiting list, we didn't hesitate when Judy and Ken contacted us with an opening. Can't begin to express how glad we did. Whale sightings everyday, beautiful sunsets, perfect beach (with a very loose leash law!), nature at it's best.....everything you would expect to see on our wonderful California Central Coastline.

The house is perfectly maintained and well stocked. Judy and Ken (the cutest couple ever!) were very thorough on the walk thru, answered all of our questions and more. And yes, the sign on the oven is just have to wait. Baked cranberry scones for breakfast on four mornings and they came out perfectly, once you wait, let the oven come to temp and bake!

Counting the days until our next visit!!

All the Ocean has to offer!!

  • 5 of 5

If you want ocean-front, you can't top this. The beach stretches as far as you might want to walk and offers great encounters with nature: birds of all types, sea shells, and sea lions playing in the surf. Speaking of the surf, it offers ideal boogie boarding and great fishing. The home is perfectly maintained, and the owners are very responsive to any concerns. Its floor to ceiling windows maximize enjoyment of the ocean. And, it is well-equipped.

Perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to stay in Judy and Ken's ocean front-home in Cayucos at the end of May and it was a magical week in every way!!! If you can't get enough of the ocean this is the place for you; the huge deck and floor to ceiling windows in the living room allow for 24/7 ocean access whether it's enjoying wine on the deck at sunset or coffee by the fireplace on a foggy morning. Add to that the joy of being able to bring your dog and experience their joy in being able to run free all day every day, chasing birds, chasing waves, being free. Add to that the most beautiful stretch of California coastline, where old California beach towns like Cayucos meet the rolling hills of wine country. There's Cambria, San Luis Obsipo, Morro Bay, Hearst Castle to explore and it's all close and easy. You can go out for nice meals or bring back to your deck fish tacos, chowder, fresh seafood and shrimp cocktails from Giovanni's market in Morro Bay, and the most AMAZING fresh smoked albacore tacos with secret apple/celery relish from Ruddell's Smokehouse at the Cayucos pier. All of this comes together so perfectly, starting with this lovely beach home as home base. Can't wait to return!!!

Everything promised is true!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this great ocean-front home. Everything mentioned in the description was true. It was very clean and well stocked with plenty of kitchen tools. The owners were there on our arrival and explained how everything worked and even checked up with us the following day to be sure all was well. We loved sitting on the deck watching the sunset and the beach walks were great! We brought our dog who also loved it. Thank you so much Judy and Ken!

About The Owner

We are retired teachers, who live in nearby San Luis Obispo, and normally clean our beach house ourselves. We stay in it ourselves a couple of weeks a year, so we keep it clean, well-maintained, and equipped as if it were our primary home.

The Owner purchased this house in 1999

Why The Owner chose Cayucos

Cayucos is recognized as one of the nicest beach towns in California, with the beach extending 2 miles in either direction.

What makes this house unique

There is a private stairway (42 steps) to the beach. The beach is one of the few dog-friendly beaches on the Central Coast. Views from the deck and the great room are amazing.
