Big Lake Alaska está situado a 55 minutos del centro de Anchorage y es uno de los destinos recreativos de verano e invierno más populares en las cercanías de Anchorage. Friends and family stayed for a week after cruising the inside passage, we had a great trip and host Kurt gave us tips on things to do in area , knik glacier atv trip was a great time as well as flying with rusts aviation to lake Clark to see brown bears eating salmon , house is as advertised, big beautiful and on the lake !

Winter Wonderland

A wonderfully positioned stay with more than the comforts of home! The views from the back yard of Big lake, Denali, and aurora were Highlights for this trip! We were a group of 12! The owners provided the necessities better than any home we have rented and went above and beyond to see to our requests. Thank you!

Big Lake House

What a great stay in Wasilla! Gorgeous views and a super host! Kurt met us at the property to help us become familiar with his beautiful home and surrounding area, activities, and more. We were able to hire a float plane to pick us up right at his dock for an amazing flight to view Denali! This is a very unique opportunity and we hope to get back there again.

Fantastic Thanksgiving winter getaway

This was the 2nd Thanksgiving, we’ve stayed at this Big Lake lodge and it was just as we remembered. The lodge is spacious enough that we are not all on top of each other (3 adults and 4 teenagers can get crowded) but can all get together to enjoy Thanksgiving together with plenty of activities both outside and inside to keep everyone happy. The perfect Thanksgiving getaway for everyone.

Fun Family Getaway

Everything we needed to have an adventurous and relaxing family getaway. Access to the lake, beautiful vistas of Denali, fun games for everyone to enjoy, nice big kitchen and room to hang out. We were close driving distance to additional outdoor adventures.

Incredible week on Big Lake!

We came with extended family, 10 total including 2 teens and 2 Grammies Kurt was extremely helpful from the time we booked to the time we left! He gave several suggestions for excursions and places to visit. He answered all of my questions quickly. The house is perfect for a big group! There was room for everyone to spread out. We had a few rainy days and enjoyed the hot tub, sauna, and steam room so much! We also had some lovely sunsets over the water and enjoyed the fire pit as well. We played football on the soft green lawn. The kitchen has everything you need. We made dinner every night at the house to take advantage of being there and the long summer days after a day of exploring. The 3 Bears grocery and liquor store are close which was helpful. The Carr’s in Wasilla had great fish. The location is Central Valley so there is adventure in every direction My only suggestion would be updated linens/ towels. We had a great time and look forward to returning one day!!

Perfect gathering place at the lake!

We rented Kurt’s home for a birthday celebration and big family BBQ. It was the perfect place for multiple people to gather. Kitchen is spacious and gorgeous, also fully stocked, making it easy to host and prepare meals. The teens enjoyed the basement area with theatre room and gaming activities. We also had guests and visitors who came over on boats and watercrafts so the use of the dock spaces was a big plus. There was plenty of parking and sleeping room for our large group as well as a spacious yard and deck area. If you need a rental in the big lake area to accommodate a larger group or family gathering, I highly recommend the Blue Lantern Lodge!

Epic Luxurious Winter Basecamp!

We absolutely love being outdoors in the Alaska winter and this epic house made coming back indoors so much more luxurious and relaxing. We spent six days on Big Lake with our family cooking in a fully stocked kitchen, relaxing in the hottube, steam room and sauna, and even our kids enjoyed cleaning up daily with the central vac! We fat tire biked on the lake daily, caught arctic char while ice fishing and found some ice skating spots. The great room has some amazing acoustics for those of you that play stringed instruments and the sound system throughout the house kept our kids playing and smiling downstairs in the game room for hours. Kurt and Holly were fabulous hosts and patient with our questions. We're looking forward to coming back andaybe even finding ourselves in Aruba for some sun and sand time!

Birthday weekend Getaway

My family enjoyed spending the weekend at this beautiful home. From pulling up the the property was a site to see. The driveway and parking lot parked all our vehicles, small toys and big toys. It has 2 docks for all our water toys. There are more other great things to this home than what the pictures on here. There is a huge game room, sauna, hot tub, massage area, and a massage chair... and fire pit. Everything was there for us to use in the kitchen, a lot of towels. Three bears store is nearby. I recommend this home if you are looking to getaway. Thank you so much Kurt we enjoyed your home.

Perfect Fit

We had an amazing time at kurt’s big lake property. Spent 3 days there in preparation for a wedding ceremony across the lake, during which Kurt and Cesar helped us transport dozens of people. The reception followed and was one for the books! Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Amazing Lakefront Home, Perfect for Large or Small Gatherings

Epic weekend! This is the perfect house for large (or small) gatherings. We had a sweet 16 birthday party so the full size basement with air hockey table, foosball, pool table, darts and home theater was perfect. Not to mention the hot tub, sauna and steam room. Large deck with a huge lawn and the fire pit was a hit as the night went on. Plenty of dock space for boats and jet skis. And a gourmet kitchen! The house alone sleeps tons of people. And it has an apartment over the garage that sleeps even more if needed! Kurt responded to the handful of questions that came up right away, mostly about how to get the sound system to play music in the hot tub room for the kids while the adults listened to something else in the huge living room! The amenities in this home are endless. Awesome place. The birthday girls already asked if we could book it again for next year! Thank you, Kurt, for making this the most memorable birthday party we've ever experienced.

The Hoosier Crew

It was fabulous. Words do not justify the experience. Dry Sauna, Steam Bath, Hot Tub ROOM. Amazing. Basement with Air Hockey (full size game just like the one we used to play at the exclusive Tan-Tara Resort in Missouri when our kids were much closer to 8 and 12.... not 26 and 30 as they are now. Super fun and so nostalgic. Btw, Pool Table, workout room and full size movie screen we took advantage of, also. Kurt helped me secure a great rate at the last minute for a rental car plus gave us an overview of what to do on this beautiful lake property. Thank you, Kurt Hansmeier, for the most adventuresome vacation we have ever had at the perfect, out of this world home.

Great place! Lots to do even in the winter.

Wish the towels were softer. The kitchen was well supplied and fun to make big family meal. Everyone enjoyed the air hockey & foosball tournaments. The view of Denali from the deck and great room was stunning.

Amazing home!!! We loved staying here! Didn't want to leave!!

Beautiful scenery. Lakefront setting is absolutely stunning!!! Sunset was amazing and that same night we saw the Northern Lights later in the night....in September!!! We plan on coming back this winter with the snowmobiles and bringing sleds for the kiddos. Cooking a gourmet meal was a breeze for our guests (45 of them). Beds were super comfortable and if the weather is bad, there is plenty of things to do inside (pool table, game room with real arcade games, gym equipment, movie room!!! Wow!!! Didn't get to enjoy the hot tub but next time for sure!!!! Thanks again for an awesome getaway!!! Our batteries are definitely recharged after this vacation!!

I was born and raised in Alaska and have worked in real estate and private finance in Alaska all of my adult life. I have raised three wonderful children whom I adore.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

The East side of the property was purchased by my father in 1953. They put a small trailer on the property in 1965. I basically grew up here in the summer through my youth. It has always been my haven. My father gave me the property in 1998 as he knew I wanted to build a house here someday. I had known the neighbors and I bought the lot next door. My own kids are all grown and I am gone part of the year anyway and since I love to travel myself I thought it would make sense to just make it available for rent. We are only an hour from Anchorage and we are on the way from most Anchorage based flight-seeing or fly-in fishing trips. The plane will fly right up to our dock and can pick you up. Big Lake Alaska is awesome year round. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
