About this property

Epic Alaskan Airplane Home DC-9

Climb aboard your Private Jet and enjoy this Douglas DC-9 converted into a full 3 bed / 2 bath house! Complete with full kitchen, bathroom, sauna and wing deck. Hangout in the cockpit and have a beer in the captain's chair, or grill up some Salmon and Steaks on the wing deck overlooking the private runway. Fly in luxury with heated floors, lounge in the belly cargo (kid's room), or kick back and enjoy the big-screen TV in first-class (living room). Ask us about tours and things to do nearby! The airplane house is located alongside a 1,900’ long private runway that you can fly in or drive in to. Our other airplane home is also available: https://airbnb.com/h/dc6 The runway separates your private aircraft from the other rental cabins located on our property giving you privacy and quiet! While it is an active runway, we generally have only 5-10 flights per week and all during daylight hours. We're about 10 mins from restaurants and grocery stores, 15-20 minutes from "the city". The property has trails for walking in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter. We connect to a large network of snow machine trails around Big Lake. You can go ice fishing, dog sledding, and snow machining all within minutes of the property. In the summer we offer air tours, glacier tours, bear tours, and fishing all direct from the property. Ask your host if you have any more questions about things to do on your trip! The property is easy to access from the main road even in winter. Roads are paved and snow plowed, and it is about an hour drive to downtown Anchorage. You'll climb aboard up a flight of stairs through the private jet ridge. You'll find your washer and dryer there and a hallway to access the Master Suite, full bathroom, and guest bedroom, as well as the Kitchen moving forward, living area, dining room, and Cockpit. There is also a kids room access via a small ladder down into the belly cargo area with a twin mattress. You can contact your Captain at anypoint during your stay via messages here on the airbnb app or via phone. We monitor the radio from 8am to 8pm 7 days/per week. If you get radio silence, you can satellite text us at as we may be out of cell range while flying. This is a real airplane that has flown around the world for many years. It has been meticulously gone over to ensure it is comfortable and safe for all of our guests. That being said, common sense is still required when walking around the outside of the aircraft and poking your head into all the compartments you do not normally have access to as a passenger. Please be safe, watch out for sharp edges, and realize that while you are welcome to explore and put your hands on all parts of the airplane inside and out, there are many parts and pieces of the airplane that still can hurt you if you do not know what you are doing. We do have an additional guest charge or $50 per guest for guests not listed in your initial reservation. There is no smoking or vaping anywhere inside or outside on the 100 acre property ($250 fine). There are tons of activities to do within a short drive or short bush plane flight of the property including, ice fishing, glacier tours, paddleboarding, snow machining, dog sleds, kayaking, bear tours, fishing charters, etc. Ask your host about all of the options to book out an EPIC experience!

This was a very positive and fun experience! My three-year-old loved the plane and spent a lot of time in the cockpit and the cargo hold. He did fine with the plane parts, etc. Things to note with an infant (12 months old but not quite walking) - obviously the plan is not child-proofed for this age. There are tons of outlets, the cargo hold door being open while toddler playing in it, and stairs to enter the plane. So a super vigilant parent is needed for an eye at all times. The master is very spacious. The second bedroom has room for a pack and play so that's where baby slept. Little sound proofing, so sound machine (and black out tent) were needed. This was very fun, so I don't like noting the negatives. However, we did not receive the check-in information in a timely manner. I requested the pack and play twice in the week leading up to check-in, and did not hear back. Captain Jon was directly texted and check-in information was then provided. In addition, we were not given information that Google Maps takes you to the wrong location for the address listed in VRBO. At the wrong address, there is a posting with QR code to the correct location. Four stars for cleanliness - there were dirty towels in the washing machine, no new sponge provided or any dish towels (paper towels were available), high chair was dirty and needed cleaned before use. No bakeware, such as a 9x9 dish, available, for those planning meals at the rental.

Cool place but not at all relaxing unless you like construction zones

We arrived well and were super excited about our stay. I left this as a surprise for my family on our last night in Alaska. As we settled in on the wing seating area a catepillar started construction right next to the wing moving truckload after truckload of dirt. The noise had us yelling at each other to communicate and unable to get to sleep and after two hours of trying to be patient we tried to reach out to the owners. Finally someone came to respond but instead of being sympathetic her response was “we’ve never had anyone complain about this before”…Wow. You be the judge- For over a grand for one night it’s totally not worth it if they will still be doing construction while you’re trying to relax and enjoy what they have tried to create.
