About Richard

My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!

Richard purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Richard chose Northwest

I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors

What makes this cottage unique

Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!

Awesome Location

  • 5 of 5

This was our third trip to this property on the Boardman River and we absolutely love this property and the serenity it delivers. The four of us (two couples) enjoy the peaceful surroundings, beauty and nature that this house delivers. The house is very comfortable, well maintained and very relaxing with the fire pit and hot tub. Richard is a very welcoming owner and wants us to feel as though we are home whenever we visit this property. We cannot say enough good things about Richard other than he is awesome. We highly recommend this property for couples, couples that travel together, families, and small groups that enjoy the outdoors and want to get away from the hustle bustle. This property is a little slice of heaven.

Beautiful scenery and cozy cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great time at this cabin! It's set in a beautiful location with gorgeous scenery. Richard is very welcoming and accommodating. Close drive to downtown and the two peninsulas. The cabin is very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed nights by the fire pit and the wood burning stove. Unfortunately, the fishing is difficult with the fast current in the river on the property... so dont expect much in the area of fishing. Overall, great trip!

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I were looking for a peaceful and nice place to vacation. We needed to unplug & relax. The cottage near Traverse City was perfect. We loved, being right on the Boardman River. Listening & enjoying the soothing river was a highlight. If the weather had been a bit warmer we would have gone kayaking. I really, enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub at night. The cottage had everything we needed & the owner was very welcoming. I have nothing but, positive things to say about this rental cottage. I hope, to go back one day. Maybe, with our families. Thank you, Richard.

Beautiful property, clean house, great experience.

  • 5 of 5

Great place to "disconnect" while sitting on the porch gazing over the beautiful Boardman river. Impressed by the cleanliness of the house, amenities for preparing meals and Richard's friendly availability. Eager to return!

This place was the much wanted get away this family needed. It was very convenient for any shopping we needed, but right in the middle of this quite secuded forest. My husband was able to do some fishing and I was able to enjoy the hot tub. The fall colors were peak but we would love to see this place in all the seasons. Richard was great and easy to get in touch with. If we are ever in Traverse City again we will want to stay here again.
