About Pat & Kris Larkin
The proprietors of The Lark Inn Guest Houses are Kris and Pat Larkin. Originally, Okies from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kris and Pat moved to the Flint Hills after living in southern California for over 20 years. While in California Kris and Pat discovered and developed their gifts of hospitality; preparing and serving meals for literally hundreds of people for numerous events. They also hosted so many groups at their home over the years that people modified their last name of “Larkin” and began to refer to their home as “The Lark Inn” . . . thus the name was born. After selling their property management business in California, they set out on what they termed their “Second Half Discovery Tour” The purpose of the tour was to travel and experience various parts of the US and discover what they were to do and where they were going to spend the second half of their lives. Having been blessed with a successful first half of their lives, now the goal is to do something significant in their second halves . . . from success to significance. Anyway, with a little help from their friends, they discovered the miracle of The Flint Hills of Kansas and moved there! It didn’t take long for Kris and Pat to learn that lodging in The Flint Hills was not plentiful and so they bought their first guest house in Cottonwood Falls. It stayed consistently rented on a nightly basis all of the summer of 2010. Later in 2010, they found another property with guesthouse and cooking class potential and in January of 2011, they purchased The Lark Inn on Main, also in Cottonwood Falls. Unlike the their first guest house, The Lark Inn on Main required a full renovation so they spent the first half of 2011 renovating The Lark Inn on Main for it's opening in June of 2011.

Wonderful Accommodation; Wonderful VRBO Experience
After having looked at the intriguing accommodations on the Lark Inn’s website, we decided Cottonwood Falls would be the destination for our mini reunion. Communication with Pat and Kris was great. The two-bedroom house we had reserved had been double booked; once for us and once for another family. Kris and Pat’s solution: Since there were five of us, we could have two houses for the price of one! The Lark Inn on Main and the Lark Inn at Fox Hollow. These two lovely abodes are adjacent to one another so was just perfect. Some days earlier I had inquired about where to have dinner on a Sunday evening. Kris recommended the Radius Brewing Company in Emporia. We ordered our meal “to go”, drove the easy 20-mile drive from Emporia to Cottonwood Falls, checked in at the Lark Inn and then dined on the pretty patio at Fox Hollow. Because the setting, seating and weather were so comfortable, we spent quite a few hours outside. The king-size beds in the two houses were so comfy as were the day beds. The next morning my sister prepared French toast with the farm-fresh eggs provided by the Larkins. The complementary yummy muffins, orange juice and coffee made the breakfast complete. We appreciated having our lodging within strolling distance of downtown and the Cottonwood Bridge. Only downside: The 500 plus miles from our home in Colorado :( I’m sure we would enjoy staying in the Lark Inn’s other dwellings.
Beyond Our Expectations
On a spontaneous whim, we decided to spend our Labor Day weekend exploring the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve near Cottonwood Falls. Even though it was only a few days before the weekend, we lucked into finding the Fox Hollow cabin of The Lark Inn available. From the moment we pulled into the drive, we realized this was a special place. Fox Hollow is a reasonably priced, incredibly comfortable, nicely appointed, renovated cottage that far exceeded our expectations. Best of all, it provides one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept on that wasn't our own. Owners Kris and Pat were especially accommodating and so thoughtful providing their incredible homemade scones and jam. We look forward to another visit soon.
We have stayed at the Lark Inn on 4 occasions while visiting family in Cottonwood Falls. Kris and Pat have done an excellent job of creating an experience that combines cute, historic and practical. We had the pleasure of staying over the Christmas holidays and they even arranged for a White Christmas, which was magical!
The Inn is within walking distance of the "downtown" district for shopping, food and Friday night entertainment.
The "Magic" is the blessing of serving our wonderful guests in such a "magical" place. As for the snow . . . what can we say . . . we're connected!!
