IDEAL LOCATION: On a quiet street and one block to the beach! Close to everything!

So easy to walk to the river, to the ocean; to walk to the shopping outlet or to the downtown shops. So easy to walk to the Entertainment Center, to the Aquarium, and to the dozens of restaurants serving everything from freshly caught seafood to handmade pizzas.

Hop in the car and within 15 minutes (with scenic views) you are in Cannon Beach, or in the opposite direction, there’s Astoria with all its beautiful Victorian architecture. And in-between are state parks, hiking, biking and walking trails with breathtaking views of the ocean.

THE COTTAGE: In the living room, the high gloss painted wood walls make this space light and airy. Comfortable furniture is a must. A secret door holds snow domes on glass shelves, collected abroad and around the USA. Everywhere you look are special collections, original artwork, and one of a kind vintage souvenirs.

The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances (including a gas stove, a dishwasher, toaster, a coffeemaker and a microwave) located next to charming collections from the 1940s and 1950s.

The compact bathroom has all the requirements; a toilet, a sink, mirror, and a sparkling clean shower with glass front doors. The space is stocked with lovely towel sets, shampoo, hand soaps, hair dryer, rolls of toilet paper, facial wipes and kleenex.

In the Twin Bedroom there is a reading library for adults and children. And if anyone wants to see a children's movie just open the bottom dresser drawer. You'll be able to select from several dozens of the best Disney films ever made. Lots of games and board games in this bedroom.

The Double Bed Bedroom has a comfy bed surrounded by paint-by-numbers hung on the wall. The bench in this bedroom has 2 purposes, one to allow guests to sit on it and two, to open up the bench seat and select one of over 300 DVDs and VHS movies! There are even more movies under the bench.

OUTDOORS: There is a two-seat Hot Tub (made in Oregon) for your enjoyment. This charming Spa is noted for providing therapeutic benefits; from physical to emotional stress relief, alleviating muscle pain to relieve arthritis and sore joints.

There is a pretty trellis with lights to turn on in the evenings, a gas BBQ (during the summer months), picnic table and outdoor furniture for everyone to enjoy both day and night. And the tree swing is always a favorite of young and old alike!

Birdie's Cottage is a destination for couples, those wishing to reconnect with friends, a get-away-from-the-city rejuvenator for the weekend, and a perfect environment to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary or a honeymoon.

We can't wait for you to visit!

About Kay Slusarenko

We are a Portland Architect and a Portland Artist who have owned Birdie's Cottage and Scout's Cottage since 1976. The two homes were built in the early 1900s and were part of a motor court with drive-in units. Sadly, a fire erupted one night and all but the main house and the laundry/fish cleaning unit were destroyed.

We rescued these two buildings from being demolished and in the summer of 1976 we, along with our three young sons, started working to restore them. We focused on honoring their past and adding modern conveniences to make our guests feel welcomed and comfortable.

Kay Slusarenko purchased this house in 1976

Why Kay Slusarenko chose Seaside

We are in love with the North side of Seaside. This is where the nicest neighborhoods are located without any condos or hotels/motels to disturb your peace and quiet. You have blocks of serene little streets that are so charming to walk or ride a bike through on your way to nearby downtown Seaside or to the Ocean front.

What makes this house unique

I especially love the fact that we are on a dead end street. This means that when staying in one of our two cottages you can sleep serenely and not have to deal with excessive noise. This fact is repeated often in our guests' reviews and is one of the main reasons that our guests are attracted to our vacation homes.

Cozy, Clean & Thoughtful

  • 5 of 5

Kay was a very thoughtful host, offering vegan options at nearby restaurants and even leaving us a little note and bottle of sparkling cider to welcome us! While the cottage is quite small (as she clearly states in listing) it is cozy, clean and has everything you could need, from a fully stocked kitchen to beach towels to a collection of movies to watch. The full bed was super comfy, with memory foam topper and soft, snuggly sheets. Slept like a baby! We really enjoyed the hot tub and the super comfy sofa and chair for movie watching at night. We also enjoyed looking over all the vintage trinkets and collectibles. If you prefer open, modern and minimalist space, this may not be for you... but if you delight in mementos of the past, you'll find it quite fun to browse the collections. We enjoyed our time and thank Kay for being such a warm and welcoming host! The only drawback is this: my husband is over 6 feet tall and a large man... had he come, I am not sure he would have been able to shower. I am rather small and the shower was very tight for me. Not a negative in my book, but just to help others gauge whether this particular cottage is the right fit. Kay also owns the two-story house next door if you require one with more space! :)

Owner's Response: What a lovely review and I'm sure this review will be helpful to many viewers. Heather mentioned the small bathroom and the size of the shower. I always make certain that I inform potential guests about the size of the bathroom as well as the shower. The bathroom works well for the majority of our guests but I definitely don't want anyone to show up and be surprised (in a negative way) about anything in our sweet little cottage. Heather was another delightful VRBO guest to host. She mentioned in her review that Birdie's Cottage has "a collection of movie videos to watch". I thought I'd let you know that this collection is over 300 fantastic movies from all genres...and is growing. Kay

Adorable Beach cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My good friend and I were able to stay a weekend at Birdie's Cottage on a gorgeous sunny October weekend. What a treat! I've never stayed in a beach home where literally every detail has been thought of! From the amazing vintage collections adorning the home to the ambient lighting around the two person hot tub at night, it was so lovely! So tidy and adorable, I will be checking out Scout's Cottage next door if I ever travel back with my family! Oh, and the walk to the beach/Seaside is so short. Although, we found it hard to leave the cottage it was so cute!

Charming cottage and great location!

  • 5 of 5

Fell in love with Birdie from the moment we pulled up in front of the cottage! The size may be small, but well maintained, had everything we needed for a sister vacation and Birdie oozes with great vintage finds! Being from Minnesota we loved the Dairy Queen sign in the backyard too.

Just a short walk to the promenade and beach and being there in the middle of September nothing was crowded! Highlights: hiked the Tillamook trail to the lighthouse and back, beautiful scenery. Farmers market in Astoria. High quality artist's and great food too.

Kay is great at communicating with you before you arrive and I'll definitely go back to Birdie!

Great little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Adorable little cottage - complete with a DQ sign, chairs, swing and hot tub out back! quieter than Cannon beach, just a quick walk to the beach to see the beautiful sunset! Also just a quick walk to the promenade to walk into town. It had everything we needed (amazingly and usually labelled!) in this small cottage!

Owner's Response: Dear Amy, Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review of your recent visit to Birdie's Cottage. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your visit and especially appreciated the location. Reading about how much you enjoyed the peace and quiet at our cottage was great to read because I am always telling guests that we don't have any through traffic to deal with nor any motels, hotels or condos. These are important factors to consider when making a reservation. I'm proud that we can offer our guests so many nice amenities and getting a good night's sleep in a comfortable clean bed and house is at the top of the list! Thanks again, Kay

Best Vacation EVER!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderfully relaxing time at Birdie's cottage. Albeit small, the cottage was perhaps the best equipped vacation rental we have had the pleasure of staying at. We love to cook while on vacation since we have such little time to do so at home. We found the kitchen to have every gadget we could hope for and more; pots, pans, hand mixer, small food processor, rice cooker, milkshake mixer, coffee grinder, microwave, and even a small dishwasher. Cooking was a pleasure and the small workspace made sure we cleaned as we went along which made after meal clean up a breeze.

We adored the wonderful collectibles in the cottage. So much to look at and explore everyday. There were also many books of the history of the area. Our son loved the vintage horseshoe game as well as the Disney games.

The beds were super comfy and the cottage was spotless. The hot tub was a nice added feature particularly on some of the cooler evenings.

One of our favorite activities was going crabbing at Kelly's Brighton Marina (located about 25 minutes South of Seaside). We had a great time crabbing off of the dock and even caught 3 keepers which they cooked up right there for us. We enjoyed eating our crab at the picnic tables by the bon fire while enjoying one of the numerous craft beers that they stock at their store.

Next time we find ourselves in Seaside we will definitely stay at Birdie's again!

Owner's Response: Jessi, Your family was such a pleasure to host at our little cottage! One of your son's goals was to go crabbing and that he did! There are so many different experiences and adventures for everyone to discover at our beautiful Oregon Coast. Next trip you might want to stay next door at Historic Scout's Cottage which is larger ( sleeps up to 6) and is still as immaculate, charming and comfortable as our smaller cottage. Thank you for your review. Kay

Nearest Beach
0.01 Miles
Birdie's Cottage is one block to the beach!
Car: not necessary

Here's a few suggestions of must-do activities in Seaside for the entire family. But please know this is just a hint of what is possible!

I write a newsletter monthly that spells out the events of each month, suggests adventures of historical significance and current outdoor activities and the very best of indoor pleasures. In Seaside you are surrounded by biking and walking paths both in the nearby forests and along the oceanfront; the Necanicum River, the Pacific Ocean, clean sandy beaches, the famous promenade, the downtown shopping area plus the factory outlet (NO STATE TAX!) is just a nod to all the possibilities that I write about.

Seaside is where you can rent a surrey or a mountain bike, build sandcastles, throw frisbees, fly kites, play soccer and volleyball in the sand and dip your toes into the cool Pacific Ocean under the watchful eye of the summer lifeguard -on-duty.

I'll also tell you where to watch the surfers, find the best trails, the best food, the best clam chowder and fish and chips. Paddle boats, kayaks are waiting to be rented just a few blocks from the cottage. In fact, 90% of all these above-mentioned activities are within a few minutes walk or drive from our cottage! Last but not least is the importance of soaking up some historical information that makes the history of Seaside and the area come alive. Recognizing that Lewis and Clark walked through our neighborhood to reach the nearby ocean is pretty inspiring and nearby towns like Astoria are filled with museums and historical Victorian homes opened to the public. The Fort Clatsop Park and the hike from the Fort to the Sea Trail is only the beginning of a deeper understanding of our country's west coast history. And after hiking, shopping, eating, walking, surfing, body boarding, feeding the seals, playing in the sand you always have the perfect beach home to return to and soak in the hot tub, watch the sunset, decide which of the 400 plus movies from the video library collection you wish to watch and best of all to relax, enjoy and recharge.
