A Dream Maine Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Aquahela Cottage in late September was absolutely wonderful. The most beautiful location we have ever had in our decades of trips to Maine. Beautifully furnished, a KING-SIZE BED, more than adequate bathroom facility---wish there could be a second "powder room!"

The kitchen was well equipped, but was missing a big lobster pot and the claw crackers and picks to enjoy a home cooked lobster dinner!! Other than that, it was fine.

Definitely set up for only 2 people; despite the small bed up in the loft---only a child could stay up there. Seating at the dining table was only for 2. Fortunately, we were very close the wonderful Seagull Restaurant at the Pemaquid Lighthouse.

Oh, but that view! We spent mornings on our deck enjoying the lobster boats and that view!

At night, we were lulled to sleep by the crashing waves.

At totally relaxing week. Would love to go back!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your dream vacation at our cottage.....we love it, too! Our kitchen is equipped with a lobster pot (4 lobsters) and lobster cooking utensils for getting every last morsel! We will make sure you can find them next time. And our home is rented for 2-3 people with a king bed downstairs and a single bed in the loft, along with 3 chairs for dining at the table. But we love the coziness for a couple. We'd love to have you visit, again; the sunsets never disappoint!

Perfect Maine Coastal Waterfront

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the cottage! The views from the deck of a setting sun was amazing. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats while drinking our morning coffee. And a beautiful view to have as I read a book in the window seat!

It was close to everything we wanted to do and enjoyed day trips to Boothbay Harbor, Monhegan and Camden while we were there.

We will be back!

Tranquil beauty in a transcendent spot, and a perfect and beautiful vacation cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is our SIXTH year at Mark's cottage on Aquahela Pl in New Harbor. This is a priceless place, with no need to do anything. there's a spotless, well-stocked (with food and utensils) kitchen, a peaceful and large living room, with TV, CD player even binoculars for those who want to stand on the back porch overlooking John's Bay - the western facing direction is simply perfect for superb sunsets. There's a great grill outside, a very comfortable king-sized bed for the night, and...... best of all, complete quiet. The lobster boats come early in the morning to check their catch. but that's it, and it's a friendly putt-putt sound of hard-working men and women. In the night, the whirl of stars and the rising/setting of the moon. Nothing more is needed. Nothing.

So, it seems like my wife and I are sold on the place! The only trouble is, Mark's not "selling" to anyone, and well he shouldn't, it's such a place that, after the season, he can retreat to if he wishes. For the two of us, it's heaven on earth, or, even more to the point, "paradise." New Harbor is nearby, with ice cream stand and a great general store. Kayak rentals, a local cafe 8 minutes away, with incredible coffee buns and breakfasts, and the more well-known lobster/crab places. Several miles before you get to New Harbor (the cottage is 4 miles from the town, and 8/10ths of a mile from the turn-off down Jones Farm Rd, of Rte. 130) is a very helpful and complete Visitor's Information house..

I could go on and on, but there's no need to. Any season here that Mark rents the cottage would make it ideal. There are ceiling fans. and if the weather toward the end of the season is slightly cool, portable space heaters. Come watch cormorants and seagulls fly by, and sailing boats go up and down the Bay! Or just forget everything and simply put your feet up on the porch railing and do nothing.... This is a wonderful healing place!

Serenity awaits!

  • 5 of 5

This charming house right on John's Bay, not far from Pemaquid Point, was all we could have hoped for.

It's relatively small, with one bedroom, a loft for a single bed, and a small living room, but the outside is the focus, with glass sliding doors to a large deck. The bay with its lobster buoys is right there, so close that I could yell at the lobster folk from the deck! Gulls, ducks, cormorants, even a great blue heron visited.

Glorious sunsets, a mostly rocky beach to explore. The area on this peninsula is quieter than others, which we prefer.

The manager is very responsive as well, answering questions almost immediately.

As others have said on this site, we only worry we won't get our choice when we return!

So good I'd almost prefer to keep it my little secret

Booked this awesome cottage for a solitary writing retreat in a chilly part of the year. You know, you're always a little apprehensive when going to a new spot, but truly, this place was just utterly perfect. Hadn't been there for more than 15 minutes when I began to wonder when I might return. Quiet, comfortable, WARM, and a great location permitting water-gazing, walks around Pemaquid Point, trips into Damariscotta, Rockland, Boothbay for great food and recreational shopping. Everything I needed was there; many small details were taken care of for my complete comfort. Rental logistics were smooth and professionally handled. Easily the nicest vacation spot I have ever booked -- and I've been to some nice places! Imagine it's even better in the summertime. but I bet it would be awesome in snowy weather too!
