Rose Cottage is located in the heart of the beautiful medieval village of Saignon, one of the ten oldest villages in France. You will experience authentic village life in a serene and peaceful environment , surrounded by narrow alleyways, historic fountains and all the rich and wonderful architecture of the 6th to the 12th century, including the magnificent Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de Pitie. Rose Cottage has a complete kitchen with an attached laundry. Also on the ground floor is the cosy living and dining area with wood fire and comfortable lounges. Upstairs are two generous bedrooms with ensuites. Start your day with a coffee and baguette from Christine's Bakery and finish with delicious French cuisine from one of the many petite restaurants dotted around the village. From the top of the village the panoramic 360 degree view of the Luberon Valley is breathtaking. The well known town of Apt is only a 5 minute drive away, offering good supermarkets and an excellent Saturday morning market.

Why Peter Brunskill chose Luberon Area

In 2006 , with my wife and two daughters, we spent some time in Provence and stayed in Rose Cottage. It was a magical experience and in 2011 had the opportunity to purchase the property, needless to say I had no hestitation. I great great joy from the wonderful experience that clients have when they stay at the Cottage.

Rose Cottage June 2016

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage for a week in June 2016. The quiet village was a wonderful base from which to explore the region by a car which we had hired in Marseille. The village itself is a lovely quiet and peaceful location and the home was very comfortable and roomy for our family of 4. Peter, the owner, and Joanna, the manager, were always very helpful during the stay and were quick to respond to any of our questions before we arrived. It is useful to know you park in the common village carpark and it is a short and easy 4 to 5 minute walk from this free and well lit gravel carpark (just off the D48) in order to walk to Rose Cottage. It is possible to drive a small car right to the Rose cottage front door along the narrow cobble stone streets to drop off luggage; but it is really not necessary as the carpark is convenient and the streets are very narrow for cars. Rose Cottage is best found on google maps currently by searching for 'La Petite Cave' which seemed to be not operating while we were there. Rose Cottage is just across the cobble stone street from the La Petite Cave as a reference for where to go to. There is a lovely spring water fountain just outside from Rose Cottage and our children (aged 6 and 11) played for hours around this as well as on the quiet cobble stone street. We hardly ever saw a car which made the place a quiet, beautiful and safe area for our children to play. We most enjoyed driving to explore nearby markets in the morning, buying olives, baguettes, cheeses and coming back to Rose cottage enjoying local rose wine / tea and coffee on the little outdoor table just outside the front door. There are also a couple of bikes in the home and I enjoyed early morning rides around the southern French countryside. If you have a car, we found that the Intermarche (368 Avenue de la Libération, 84400 Apt, France) was best for purchasing food supplies. It was a wonderful stay at Rose Cottage for our whole family and I recommend it to anyone interested in staying in this beautiful and quiet medieval French village.

Rose Cottage, Saignon

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage is a delightful, clean, well-appointed home to have as a base for touring the beautiful Luberon area. The cottage's location in the heart of Saignon ensures easy walking to restaurants and village sights. Peter, the owner, and Joanna, the manager, were very helpful both before and during our stay. We enjoyed our week in the cottage and would recommend it to those interested in holidayIng in a medieval French village.

Was it a dream?

  • 5 of 5

Our time at lovely Rose Cottage in charming, dream-like Saignon was perfection! The cottage was the ideal spot to base ourselves for five days in Provence. As we walked into the village and found our way to the cottage, we were pinching ourselves - the village is amazing and is quintessential Provence with its old stone houses, blue shutters and gorgeous flowers. The view from the ruins at the top of the village was a treat as was wandering through nooks and crannies. We made friends with the five cats who visited near the front door and the bubbling fountain added to the tranquility. Our favorite day trip was to the ruins of Fort Buoux. Peter was helpful in advance and Joanna and Paul were great hosts upon arrival. I wouldn't change a thing and hope I can make it back someday!

Rose Cottage " The home away from home"

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage is a delightful home away from home. We found the cottage and village of Saignon very relaxing. The locals were friendly and most helpful. We appreciated Joanna's visit to welcome us with a bottle of wine and she also offered lots of travel tips. Advice from Peter before our travels regarding the local supre marche, markets in Apt and Saignon and other travel spots to visit in France was much appreciated. We have already recommended the cottage as a terrific base from which to explore Provence to friends. Saignon is an unspoiled historic hilltop village, centrally located so there is so much to see and do within the surrounding area. Great having Apt a bigger town just 6 km down the road. A definite highlight was canoeing on the River Sorgue. Also a terrific day trip was the drive to Mont Ventoux on the ascent through the lavender fields and after descending through the Rhone Valley vineyards.

The perfect Holiday Cottage - Rose Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful week staying in Rose Cottage which is in the charming village of Saignon. Joanne was very helpful in getting us acquainted with the village and the area. The house is very well appointed and very comfortable and a pleasure to come back to after a day of sight seeing. We discovered the surrounding hilltop villages and the various markets in these villages. The markets in Apt were one of the best we have been to in France. We did a trip over to Mont Ventoux and its surrounding towns, which was very interesting. Saignon is a very quiet and traditional style of village - absolutely gorgeous. We would certainly return again to Rose Cottage.
